and why should a backup to an nfs drive be a problem?

very nice guide!
especially the part with the screw to hold the vpro from the top is neat. anyhow i still have kinda bad feeling about the vpro hanging quite loose in there ...

one more thing i just had a look at your env output and noticed the lower number of fans. here's mine:
Code:
FAN  0  EXHST 1    Enabled         1980         2235
FAN  1       PS    Enabled         3200         4017
FAN  2    PCI 1    Enabled         1980         2250
FAN  3    PCI 2    Enabled         1980         2518
FAN  4      ODY     Active         1679            0
FAN  5  N0 LEFT     Active         1980            0
FAN  6  N0 CNTR    Warning         1980            0
FAN  7 N0 RIGHT     Active         1980            0

The Onyx350 was of the G brick kind of onyx ;) In fact I have an "Onyx 350" labeled O350, and it has nothing different from an Origin 350

well i would like to see how sgi solved the cooling issue so an onyx350 used with an g-brick doesn't help :P
also i'm interested in the bulkhead of the 'original' infinite perf. v12 so the pics should be either an onyx350 ip or a tezro rack version

i guess that's why that nekoware is 'beta' ;)

There a picture of the rear of an Onyx InfinitePerformance <that shows the bulkhead> in the first page of V12 in Origin350 / InfinitePerformance? - WORKS! . viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16719768

ha, indeed, sorry :P

so it seems the bulkhead is totally closed. to support the airflow i guess. nice, so i'm gonna tape my bulkhead and watch the temp ...

and why all those workstations instead of a few origins or challenges?

that's some neat setup :D
and regarding power iirc that 5700 is the max what the psus can do. so the actual value is somewhere below

quite unexpected results, especially:
On O2, if the resolution is reduced from 1280x1024 to 640x480, the power consumption drops by 0.01A. :D

thanks for your 'services' once again :D

I don't know, why I cling on to that old stuff :)

mmh, let's see:
  • warm, 'real' colors
  • position independent brightness
  • more than 1 resolution at full quality
  • 'real' black
  • no shimmer around the screen edges
  • won't quit on pre-boot bios like screens
  • ...

did i miss one? :D

No 'screen door effect', ability to use crystaleyes stereovision, and the badassness that comes with a couple 100 pound vacuum tubes sitting on your desk.

"it's so thin, there's no way it could do 3-d graphics! where do they keep the 3rd dimension?"

hehehe, definitely missed that one :D

When you have more than one console open they both show the system status messages. They are separate processes/shells, though, so you can be running separate commands in them.

I would recommend one console (to see messages) and do your work in winterms (so you don't get the system messages mucking things up).

as always, console for output, terminal for input :D
