The collected works of foetz - Page 7

good hints from Timberoz but keep in mind you need to learn flint & co and you can only work with uncompressed material.
as i said i doubt that's the right thing for you according to your first post.

Maybe you were out too long. SAQ does MIPS3 nekoware builds.

ah, nice :D
however i've never been much into nekoware anyway

you can do all of that with an sgi an depending on your setup you'll never have dropped frames but the setup needed to achive that is quite heavy.
normally on sgi you have more or less 2 choices:
get really serious or not much at all.

did you try to copy the cd to disk first? sometimes it's just a read error although the cd is fine

it'd be a network mount then. that's no prob of course.

that's the big plus compared to a tezro. you can expand the o350s just like that :D

trial was fine. although i never felt at home in the same way as with some other well known systems.
but it's a personal pref. of course.

In the mean time, I managed to mount XFS drives (ro) from my SGI server on the iMac using NFSManager,
in a way that these show up automatically *and* under a symbolic name (mount point) after boot. Great!
NFSManager is not freeware, though, but costs next to nothing.

All I need now is to have the user IDs on the Mac adapted to those in IRIX, I guess.

About the cross-platform X11 window display: thereĀ“s another thread around here.

just to be clear, the xfs disk was still in the sgi but you mounted it via nfs?

i see. just thought you'd have been able to read xfs with osx somehow :D

i have used SL since the 10a380 but so far there's nothing that would make me wanna switch. quite the contrary frankly.

the gfx performance is worse than 10.5, filesystem perf. also and i have problems with the color profiles. don't like the new default gamma etc. at all. also booting takes much longer although the 10.6 disk is much faster than the 10.5 disk :D

as long as there're no apps with grand central and/or opencl support 10.5 is the better choice. let alone the ppc support and the age what makes it quite mature.
r-a-c.de
i'm not using a real mac. but the boot time doesn't bother me. just wanted to mention it.

it's not just the gamma. even after adjusting that it still looks somewhat bleached. really nasty on the eyes. just like when someone is playing with the levels in photoshop and doesn't know what he's doing :D

anyway that aside i just see no reason for making 10.6 my main osx. as i said unless grand central and opencl apps are released ...

i hate them :D
on 10.5 i had all entries in one list at a glance. now i have to go through (sometimes) several lists to the right. takes me twice the time to use it. no improvement at all :?
