Could PA 8.5 be incompatible in some way with 6.5.26?

Ian.

i had v9 running on 6.5.30. the renderer crashed but it was fine otherwise.

I would love to see PowerAnimator screens. It's always been the software I wanted to have but never had the chance to get my hands on it (and won't pay 500$ on ebay for a copy).
I worked a bit with StudioTools (similar interface) and my everyday package is Maya.
But anyway I would like to see the link between them, that is PowerAnimator!!

it's not the link between.
studiotools, poweranimator, animator, designer and whatever else they've sold is all the same app.
just with more or less features. just like maya complete and maya unlimited e.g..

PA had a feature set more useable for sfx and/or games. there was even a special games version and several output plugins.
additionally there were 3 options for sale:
- advanced animation
- power modeling
- power render

some were for sale for other license models like designer, too.

btw i would love to see a screenshot of a version before 7.

when i finally have recovered completely which is soon i hope of course i can fire up an old machine a make some pics of explore 4.2 and prisms.

Of PA? I think I have some way older than 7, or at least the O2 I'm dealing with appears to have a license
for V1 and V4, aswell as 8.0 and 8.5.

Ian.

A thought on colors. IRIX usually ran with a gamma correction of 1.6 IIRC. Perhaps the Buffy Colors are set for no gamma correction (1.0).

default gamma is 1.7 but that aside irix comes with a custom gtkrc already.
Code:
desktop_eoe_6530m.idb:f 0444 root sys usr/lib/X11/themes/IndigoMagic/gtk/gtkrc gtk_themes/themes/IndigoMagic/gtk/gtkrc desktop_eoe.sw.envm

was a bit surprised to see several old security issues have been updated lately on SecurityFocus.com.
could figure out exactly why resp. what had been changed ...
josehill wrote: It is odd, since as far as I can tell, most, if not all, of the IRIX issues listed were resolved a few years ago.

exactly
ah, very handy. much thanks! :D

i would welcome a quick reply feature like many boards have.
i think it's not a default feature of phpbb but i'd be surprised if there's no similar plugin or so ...

I've tried one before, under at least 6.5.19 they have issues. I'm going to do a new install on the system Wednesday probably so I can run another test with a newer version of Irix. Are you looking for mainly LTO-1?

yes, 1 and 2.

thanks in advance

wolflord wrote: Ok, I had a bad drive for the first go round it seems...on the second drive Irix sees it as a generic 'cartridge device'. I was able to do the scsi inquiry commands, mt status commands and read and write to a tape using tar. In this case both drive types LTO 1 and 2 were scsi attached. Still running 6.5.19.

good enough for me. much thanks! :D

sgi workstations have been the top of the line regarding video and/or effects. so there are serveral very special apps which are very good and very expensive. also they're not exactly plug & play.

if you just wanna edit something like the last holiday film with a few transition presets i doubt you'll be happy here ...

i would recommend any kind of r12k or higher since interactive use doesn't benefit much from smp.
looking at the prices these days it should not be a problem at all :D

hehe, nice to the point.

it's really not harder than any other os installation.

best kb i've ever used is the granite sgi.
touch, contact point, quality ... you name it. top-notch in every aspect.

WolvesOfTheNight wrote: For the most part I find that the keyboards that come with computers are cheap peaces of junk, especially the dell keybaords that have overrun the place where I work. I have found that the clicky keyboards (old IBM Model-M) are some of the best keyboards out there, so I have one of my own that I use at work. However, they have the drawback of being rather noisy. Mine can drive my current office mate nuts. I can really sympathize with this since there are some backgound noises that can drive me nuts.

old kbs rule. no question.
can't stand the newer plastic toys either.

i switched to fujitsu myself last year and i'm quite pleased. silent, fast and not a single issue so far.
had cheetahs for years but they did not last as long as i expected for the price.
the old fc barracudas did well, too.

you can lower that but using a 32bit ffi
