i would welcome a quick reply feature like many boards have.
i think it's not a default feature of phpbb but i'd be surprised if there's no similar plugin or so ...

That's a vBulletin feature. phpBB doesn't support plugins, only direct code mods (which are a pain in the ass to maintain).

True, I've done that to my board and now I can't even move to the newest subversion...

a little box at the bottom of the screen where you can only enter text and no quoting. you don't have to go to a (complicated) composition screen to reply to a message.

Personally the fast reply, I reckon people would just post what ever the topic, but with the normal reply procedure, it makes you think of what you are going to put... if you get what I mean.
