LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH is a mandatory requirement of all irix system running n32 libs and binaries.

hehe by the book often doesn't reflect reality. those vars exist for a reason, offer nice flexibility and don't affect performance or anything else in a negative way in any way. for every unix user it's a self-evident task to set environment variables so i don't see any problem at all.

That would be great, especially of the latter. I'm a big fan of Houdini, although I've never had the chance to use/run PRISMS. (I remember reading about it on the SESI web site, also in magazines at the time. Lots of great stories.)

i'm afraid that machine died but you can grab a few shots over there: http://nicknimble.com/index.php?option= ... 55&lang=en

if you wanna know anything else about prisms i'll try my best to recall what i can :)

well he actually was aiming for the fact that there is no serious alternative at the moment indeed which is one of the main points of this thread

exactly but that very field is very small now and in some areas (e.g. desktop) not even existant anymore.

sure nothing is 100% but in my experience those path/var issues are mostly caused by messed up installations and/or just missing skills at setting such things. that goes for unix in general not only for irix' specific variables.

yup that's the classic double lib error. firefox does provide its own libsqlite3.so and does obviously not work with the one from nekoware.

as hamei said one way would be to compile firefox using an external sqlite. it'd then however always require that.
excluding /usr/nekoware/lib from the paths does not work if your firefox relies on other nekoware.
renaming the neko sqlite lib before starting firefox and rename it back once firefox is running works but is a bit cumbersome.

so since firefox is obviously much more popular than sqlite best would probably be to install it to an isolated place.

sure thing, one more vote for "no" then

i just happened to read the intro on the page with the prisms pics and noticed what a n00b that guy is. typical ipad kiddy.
if it doesn't look like on the iphone it's automatically ancient and bad. not a single word about the actual operation of the program but instead just dumb and superficial phrases. i bet if you'd just switch the gui widgets to apple defaults but change nothing else his text would be very different :P

anyway don't get fooled by that article prisms is very good and unique. it's quite technical and doesn't follow the usual usage mechanisms. it's great for serious construction and well structured setups. not so suitable tho for the quick and dirty things like alias for example where pretty much everything is click & drag. and yes some parts are standalone programs which can be an advantage especially for big scenes so you don't have to load the big main app with the full big scene. also makes it more solid if one part should crash.
it's not for everyone and some people never liked it; not back then and not today but if used right it'll serve you well in many ways :)

Winnili wrote: Actually, isn't Houdini even also missing a few features and functionalities, like the PRISMS morphing tools? I certainly don't remember seeing them in any Houdini, both old and new, ever since.

hmm good question. i never used that so i didn't miss it :P
if they did indeed scrap it maybe it was because they concentrated more on the 3d than the compositing part of the program(s).

however for someone who likes houdini sage might be instesting. it came with v6 and above iirc and is sort of a prototype of the modelling as houdini had it later. you could switch the gui to either a full 3d view (as you'd get when maximising the houdini perspective view) or have a split view with a large sop net area on the right and a smaller 3d view port with the sop options below on the left.
btw the font used for the prisms logo is Bookman-Demi which is part of x_eoe.sw.Xfonts. bevel it a bit and there you go :D

i got a program made for irix 5.x and it works fine on 6.5. except one thing: pop up menus. pushing the button works but as soon as the menu is supposed to pop out above the button it crashes.
maybe somebody got the same issue in the past and knows a fix?

any hints would be most welcome :)

unfortunately there were a bunch of issues with the vpro so in studiopaint the patch looked black. anyway it did work nevertheless. pics attached.
i used 2 simple surfaces made of 3 skinned curves. surfaces are uniform at 3 deg.
r-a-c.de
pretty much yes. the alias shaders have an option "per object images" which is used by the sp export. there might be other ways but i'm not an sp guru so ... :P
if you wanna clearly handle patches individually you could of course transfer and paint them one by one.

hi damiga,

welcome here and yes we got some sun related parts, too. a good start here is either the forum search or the wiki which has things like this: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Clone_System_Disk
as usual "search first, ask later" goes here as well. as quite an old site we got a lot of stuff surely worth checking out :)

enjoy the ride and congrats on your 2 new machines :D

a crimson is something special no doubt. the only downside is getting decent software for it given its age and the limits that come with that but either way it might still be the most "mystical" sgi of all so congrats on that purchase nevertheless :)
