yes i'm really crazy about this red thing !!!

Bienvenue, Eve!

Nice collection. Everybody goes crazy for the Crimson... I guess it all depends on how, when and where you encountered things for the first time. I'll always have a fondness for the PI and Indigo since they were the first machines I ever saw that could do "real 3D."

À bientôt,
--Steve.

Which is why I love the Indy most of all. But if I can't have a big red Crimson, at least now I have a medium-sized red Fuel. :)

That's why I have to struggle mightily any time there's a hint of an IRIS 3130 in the wind. First thing I owned bigger (much!) than a PC-XT clone, bought from Eli Heffron's in Cambridge, MA for $2k cash in 1990. Mitre in Bedford hadn't wiped the machine, but all the truly interesting bits had been on NFS mounts. But after a while I badly wanted BSD and X, and when the 20" monitor died I sold it on for just $2k and bought a Sun-3/140, CDC/Imprimis 300MB disk, and Telebit Trailblazer...

But back to the point - Eve, what was the first SGI you ever saw? How did you get hooked?

a crimson is something special no doubt. the only downside is getting decent software for it given its age and the limits that come with that but either way it might still be the most "mystical" sgi of all so congrats on that purchase nevertheless :)
