Merci beaucoup!

I'll try this asap.

Hi

Oh yes, it was a very good game. What a pleasureto find it again. You can find the original files here: http://www.abandonware-france.org/ltf-jeu.php3?id=603

Many old games are available on this site. I've read some times ago that they have asked the creators of the games if they could share them as abandonware... so it seems "legal".

Regards.

Hi

I've just downloaded 1.2-7.1 but can't execute it correctly. The following appears:

Code: Select all

bx_octane 21# ./nekosync.pl
sh: bash:  not found
sh: bash:  not found
sh: bash:  not found
NOTICE: No external configuration file found, using defaults...

Use of uninitialized value in string eq at ./nekosync.pl line 584.
nekosync has not yet been configured - please edit
/etc/nekosync.conf and ensure that sane defaults are set before
re-running.

I've allreeady edited nekosync.conf (with get option), but the two files are in "/_nekoware_tardists_/". Is this a problem?

I can't find the solution by myself. Can you help me?

Thanks in advance. Have a good day.

Hello

Thanks a lot for your answers. I'll try this evening.

Just two remarks.

1) The first time I've launched nekosync.pl, it has said to me that the .conf was not edited/configured. Actually it was, but I had forgotten to set "configured=TRUE". Nekosync.conf wasn't in /usr/nekoware/etc but the perl found it here "without problems" the next time. Strange...

2) In the .conf file, one can find

Code: Select all

$rsync = "/usr/neokware/bin/rsync";
instead of

Code: Select all

$rsync = "/usr/nekoware/bin/rsync";

Thanks again. Best regards.

What a good idea!

I will probably get an Indy and an Indigo soon. And the box I'm working on quite everyday is a R4400 Indigo2. Do you plan to compile the latest version of rsync too?

I wish we'll have fun with all these boxes sleeping in many corners...

Regards.

Hi guys!

As I sometimes need to clone a root disk for backup purpose, I've read all your posts concerning this subject (e.g. viewtopic.php?t=8619 ) and tried to write my own script. The previous disk of the Indigo2 I'm using at work crashed, the only backup (bru) was done some 2 years ago and the file was corrupted. I had to reinstall everything from scratch: Irix, additional hardware, special software,...

The problem is that I don't know enough about shell scripts... . So, I've used foetz's one and modified it to include some options one could find usefull and - that's the most important part in my point of view - many comments to help beginners understand faster what the script does and geeks remember how to do it. I hope we'll all find here a reference for performing this cloning procedure.

Please feel free to use and modify it as your convenience. If you think some modifications would be usefull for many people, you can send me your script and I will try to include your improvements.

The following code will be updated with latest revisions when available (I hope so...).

last revision: 2006.09.09

Code: Select all

#!/sbin/ksh
#
#  auto xfs root disk duplicating
#  IRIX 6.2 or higher

#  LAST REVISION: 2006.09.09
#
#
#  ************************
#  * GENERAL INFORMATION: *
#  ************************
#
#  This script duplicates any xfs root disk onto another one using the
#  xfsdump/xfsrestore method. The target disk doesn't need to be greater or
#  equal in size than the source one. The free space should simply be big
#  enough to contain all the data of the first disk.
#
#  USAGE: scriptname (orig. disk cntrl) (orig. disk id) (target disk cntrl)...
#  (target disk id)
#  e.g. sgi_clone_root_disk 0 1 1 3 (will duplicate disk on scsi controller 0,
#  device id1 onto target disk on scsi controller 1 (i.e. external disk),
#  device id3)
#
#  If you copy/paste this text in a text editor, don't forget to chmod the
#  saved file to make it executable. Moreover, as it's a
#  system task, it should only be executed by root:
#       su
#   chown root:0 ./<name_of_your_script>
#   chmod a-x ./<name_of_your_script>
#   chmod u+x ./<name_of_your_script>
#
#  In order to be executed without the intervention of the user, the script
#  doesn't ask you for choices (e.g. spacecheck or not). If you want to
#  enable/disable it, please edit the script and uncomment/comment the
#  dedicated lines.
#
#  DON'T FORGET to partition the target disk as root drive at least once
#  before running the script. If you don't know how to perform this, please
#  follow these steps in your prefered shell:
#       fx
#       (enter)
#       <your_disk_controller_number>
#       <your_disk_drive_number>
#       (enter)
#       r

I would like to reinstall or update IRIX. Do I have something to know before (like patch5086, last version of IRIX that supports O200, additional CD required,...) ?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Thanks for your answers.

I have hoever some more questions:
- So, if I boot from CD, the patch is installed automatically ?
- The CD drive can be connected on any of the two towers, even if I install from the miniroot ?
- If I decided to reinstall completely the system, could I do it when the two towers are connected or should I do it separetely and connect them afterwards ?
- Last question, for now: how can I keep the licenses if I reinstall irix ? Which file(s) to copy on my backup server ?

I don't have enough time to play with my boxes, so I won't probably add a graphic card to that one. For sure, the origin 200 is the loudest that I own. In fact it's located in the basement of my parent's house... I only fire it up from time to time

I'll focus on my octane2 for the time being... and play with the others when I can't do anything else, that means when it rains ;-)

Hi folks.

I'm trying to find some graphical disk usage analyzer which could draw tree maps.

I've found xdiskusage but it seems that the areas are not proportional to the real size of the folders. There are other softs too. Baobab looks good, but sources are not available. jdiskreport can display pie-charts but no tree maps.

My favourite (on the dark side of the force... windows) is spacemonger : simple but efficient. Do you know about a similar soft for irix, or that would compile quite easily ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Don't be so afraid C-E... During my thesis I didn't know what I wanted to do in my real life either. I learned physics and finally work as PM in a pharmaceutical company. Nothing related. During your thesis, you learn how to manage a scientific project and to think globally. That's already a good starting point. You'll learn your specific job on the go.

EDITED 12.01.2012: V10 replaced by V12

After so many years I finally decided to buy a fuel. Hopefully Ian, as always, had lots of machines available at a very reasonable price. Moreover, he put so much care in the preparation, personalisation, packing and shipping of it that I'm fully satisfied. If you would like a new box working like a charm, he is definitely the guy you should contact. Thanks again for all, Ian.

I didn't found enough time up to now to discover every personalisation and gift he included... but I will have soon. I'm really looking forward to playing with it. It's such a nice machine.

Let's have a look at its outputs right now !

It is a Fujitsu Worldisk, 36GB. I'll have a look at it this evening and give you more details soon. Maybe Ian will read this post and could answer better and faster than me.

If someone wonders what monitor I have, here is tha answer: GDM-FW9011. Sgi 24" 16:10 CRT weighting more than 50kg. My back still remembers (I used to live on the 5th floor without elevator).

"Nice lair" you said... yes, because I've juste made order before the photo. Normally it's significantly more messy :)

Regarding the O200, the skins WERE perfect when they were given to me, as the O200 was used in my university and never moved since their installation. Unfortunately I didn't know the plastics were so fragile and tilted one of the towers during a move. Two feet immediately broke, so I had to remove the two others. Finaly, one door "axis" broke too, but on the other module... grrrr !

Anyway, If you know how to make them reproduce, give me a call ! It would be funny to have a baby O200 as paperweight...

I just read you old topic PS. At work, we'll probably buy a Faro 3D digitizer in a near future. If my collegues from the metrology let me use it, I could maybe give you the dimensions of a o200 skins, even a 3d model if I found enough time to process the data.

We'll see in a few weeks or months.

Hi.

Nice to hear from you again. Hope everything will turn fine soon.

I don't know if there are open positions, but the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) has different departments where your skill would probably be appreciated. I think in particular about the CRPP (Plasma Physics Research Center, lot of code to be written and data to be analysed) and the IGM (Institute of Mechanical Engineering, fluids mechanics, and so on). I've just seen a position for a tenured full or associate professor in the area of Aerospace Engineering . Maybe it's for you. Anyway, they will probably need research assistant for this new group.

There are several HP Computer in the school. For example Pleiades in the Mechanical Engineering Institute. More informations about other facilities here .

Hope this can help you.

BetXen

P.S.: BTW, the region is wonderful here. EPFL is 500m from the Geneva Lake, mountains are very close,...

Hi folks !

Thanks to maxsleg, I'm now the happy owner of IMO one of the most desirable sgi... an Onyx2 IR2E. I finally decided to do the trip to his place to pick it up. 8 hours, 80kg and 800km later (+ a lot of spare parts and other gifts), I still think that it was a good idea. It was a long trip but was worth it. Thanks Paul !

So, here are the outputs.

Hi JJ,

Yes, I've seen that, but didn't remove the boards up to now. I will search for an imbus key and have a look at it asap.
I will open a new thread about nice 3D softwares suggestions pretty soon. As you have some Onyx2, I hope you will give me some hints.

I have finally received a 7/64" key and removed the directory memory. No more "SYS-DEGRADED" warning, of course.

Please tell me where the error is... : The key (15cm long with a rubber T handle) came from the UK for 8 Swiss francs shipping included. The cheapest I've found on a swiss online shop was 25CHF + shipping (for a small L-shaped one). Ahhh, globalization ! :o

I've also installed all the Onyx2 demos and am looking at them. What do you suggest me to install to unleash the IR2E and get some fun ? 3D demos, games, softs ? I would also like to display some FEA results. Which soft do you think is the best for that ? Paraview or sth like that ? Maybe you also know a good DICOM viewer ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi !

Due to the birth of our child, I had to move the Onyx2 out of his room to the living room. Fortunately, my TV syncs on green (it is a LG 42LH3010). Thus I opened ircombine and tried different resolutions. No problem to display 1680x1050_60Hz, but I can't successfully display 1920x1080_60. My desktop appears on the lower right part of the screen, with two large black bands on the left and top regions of the TV (around 15cm on the left and 5 on top). Moreover, I can't see the whole managed area (for instance iconbar is only half visible) and it is slightly squeezed horizontally.

I'm not familiar with ircombine and this type of hardware, so I may have misunderstood something. Do you have any ideas that would help me resolve this problem ? It would be nice to use the whole surface at the highest resolution :D

Thanks in advance.

BetXen

P.S.: If needed I can include pictures, but I'm at work now.

Thanks a lot recondas. I will have a look at your links during the week-end. Unfortunately, I will be in the chalet and have to try later on next week.

In the meantime, I've found this table in the manual of my TV:

Recondas,

Thanks for your work. I didn't have a lot of time last week, but tried anyway to grab the EDID infos. I google a bit and downloaded some applications. No success yet. They always tell me that the wil get the EDID from Windows registry. I thought ther would be a way to ask the monitor directly... Yesterday I also upgraded my TV with the latest firmware and will try to get the EDID again today. It seem I will have too google a bit more, as you say there are simple methods to do it.

In the meantime, I also connected my laptop. No problem with HDMI but when I connect it via DB15, It displays the same way the Onyx2 does: two black bands... strange. Didn't check with the noew firmware for the moment.

I will also try your file this evening. Thanks a lot.

There is... I like wildlife photography too, even if I don't have enough time to do it properly by myself. My fauna takes me too much time and is too young for the moment to come with me up the mountains before sunrise.

I look forward to seeing more of your pics.

Recondas... you're a genius :D It works flawlessly ! My desktop completely fills the TV and the details are sharp. When I booted it up, even with the new TV firmware, the result was identical. Then I loaded you vfo file in ircombine an... wow... how impressive it is on a 42" display. I need to find good looking demos to show my friends...

Anyway, I will continue trying to get the EDID from my Windows notebook. It's strange that it cannot display correctly.

Thanks so much. Best regards.
