The collected works of BetXen - Page 4

Actually, I've not tested whether the L1 would come up without a graphic card. But I'm sure the fuel won't start without.
On the other hand, as soon as I was typing "env" or "power" I got a message back.

Regarding the ATX power supply, that's right: the pinout is definitely different but can easily be rewired. But don't forget those WTX-like power supplies were designed for server equipment. The maximum current it can provide in one of the rails (I don't remember which one) is much higher than consumer-PC specifications, even for hard-core gamer equipment. Then, select your ATX replacement PSU with care.

As for how to fool the environment monitoring, I think there was a post recently from someone who attached the original fuel PSU fan to it's ATX PSU so that it reports its RPM to the monitoring... or maybe I'm wrong.

I'm still here as well, but where is "here"... running around the globe with a lot of work, so that I don't have so much time at home, and I spend it nowadays more with the family than on my computers.
I'd miss hamei's prose, too, if he didn't reconsider. Hopefully he will.

Welcome to the club ! This is definitely a nice machine that works well... when PSU or V12 do not burn.

Have fun with it !

Fuels are indeed noisier than a stanard PC, but doesn't the sgi factor compensate that ?
Having both a fuel and some octanes (2), I confess I use the fuel more often, due to the noise. On the other hand I prefer the dual CPU responsivity of the Octane...

It is right decent fuels are not cheap, but luckily you live in the same country as Ian (from whom I got mine), so that finding good parts and replacement ones (if one should fail) wouldn't be so difficult. Finally, even if modelling on a sgi is definitely a good experience, you should export your scenes to a modern computer to render them.
