Realsoft 3D v5.1 for IRIX - Page 1

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that Realsoft have released v5.1 of Realsoft 3D for Irix.
The package is still Beta (same as the Linux version), but basically, this doesn't mean that it is any less stable, but it does mean that it lacks behind in release schedule than the Windows version.
The benefit is that a lot of the bugs found in the Windows version are fixed by the time the Irix release comes out, and that the Irix licence can also be used for the Linux version.

The Irix and Linux versions are also considerably cheaper.

If you want to find out about the features of v5, check out the following URL: http://www.realsoft.fi/news/v5/ and here: http://www.realsoft.fi/news/v5sp1/

Anyway, there is an 'eval' version available for download now (not time limited, but rendering res. limited) from here:
http://www.realsoft.com/updates/irix/packages/realsoft3d-5.1.25-beta-irix-mips.sh

Let me know if you encounter any problems.

Let me know if you like it as well. It would be good for Realsoft to know if anyone is interested in their keeping the Irix version going.
I'm helping out on that front (just minor aspects of the porting, so can't take credit for either the features or the bugs. :) ), and will keep doing that while there's interest, since I barely get to use it these days due to work commitments.

Cool, will try :D

Hello Nik...

I've downloaded the file to give it a try.

I'll need to fill any form to get the evaluation license, or this is included by default with the installer? I've not tried to install the package by now...

Thanks in advance!
Cheers! ;)
Hi Diego,

Just install it. No eval. registration required. On installation, when it asks for key, just leave empty.

Nik
It's nice, however I'm running into problems with incompatible libpng version: I have 1.2.15 in my library search path, but you have dynamically linked against 1.0.x. I think it is better to link against a static libpng, I suspect that many users have upgraded their shared libpng, and your version is pretty old. Apart from that, it looks really nice :-)

EDIT: actually, IRIX (6.5.22 at least) itself provides version 1.2.15
Such bugs and goblins in my life!

@zappa
Thanks for that report.
I'll look into that.

installed.. right click on the viewport.. select "wireframe"... (or shade if you're in wireframe)... booom.

man this proggy crashes with nothing here.. dunno it might be my Octane that is messy.. but i cant really use it for more than 5 mins without a crash.

cheers ;)

Hello,

Can you please port Real3D to the Itanium as SGI doesn't give a shit about MIPS no more? Cheers.

Is that the only time it crashes, or are you seeing it crash in other situations as well ?
Can you tell me the spec of your Octane ?

I'll test this on my machine later this week. It wasn't a problem before, could be something that was introduced with this version.

An update has been released. Version 5.1.26.

Fixes a few bugs that were reported (not specific to the Irix version though).

Get it here:

http://www.realsoft.com/updates/irix/packages/realsoft3d-5.1.26-beta-irix-mips.sh

Nik.
I've installed realsoft 3D 5.1.26 beta, but when I wanna run it I've got Bus error due to an incompatible libpng version: I have libpng-1.2.8 and r3d required 1.0.15
Very nice app. I've tried today the Linux x86_64 version with Ubuntu AMD64 9.04. I'll give it a try to the IRIX version at some point.
had it running back then.
not bad for a free app :D

Indeed, and it looks top quality!
I don't know how to use it for serious work, since I just know the basics, and I'm actually focussed to learn to use another app. But I'm interested since I think I have a use for this one too! :)

With a bit of luck, I'll have my IRIX box running again soon.
Hi,

I know that this topic is a bit old but seems that this link no longer works.

Did anyone download it? Or is a new link available?

Cheers
Hi again :-)

although the link did not work, went through the normal download, email route and it is now downloading.

Cheers
I'd like to try this out. Is there a demo that would run on the O2 r12k?

Hi,

Yes it is still available I downloaded it for IRIX a few weeks ago. Got to their site at

www.realsoft.fi

and click on Download.

At the bottom you get a dropdown (select SIG IRIX MIPS) and put your email address. You will get an email where you can go an download it for IRIX.

It ran straight away on my octane with no problems at all.

Good Luck

:)

Cheers
Hot off the presses:

No IRIX download yet, but atleast we have proper Python3 support and because it's fully python driven it should not be that difficult:

Blender 2.5 is widely believed to be the version of Blender that will overcome the (perceived) notion of being difficult to use by users of other 3D applications.

that's kind of a strange statement.

if it's perceived as difficult and it's not; it's generally those other 3d users throwing FUD, or it really is difficult, but blender folks don't want to admit it.

i don't see how a new version would address that problem.

anyway i wish them good luck with that. someday i'll have the time to relearn the arcane interface!
