The collected works of nekonoko - Page 21

Great idea! Since I took the IO9 out of my second O350 this would be a perfect upgrade for that brick.

I haven't run into any data corruption myself; I've been running with same 1TB drive and Intel driver since December 2009.

If you're dual booting, make certain you're not enabling NTFS write support on the Mac side as that's been known to cause data corruption.

Another kind of interesting detail is smj's card is keyed for 3.3V and recondas' card is 3.3V/5V universal.

Octane is 5V only, so they'd need to be the green 3.3V/5V version.

Certainly. In fact, a CD-ROM based Amiga (Commodore CDTV) was released in 1991. In 1993 Commodore released the Amiga CD32 which was also a CD-ROM based system, but targeted as a games console.

The Amiga A570 (released in 1992) was the official CD-ROM add-on for the Amiga 500.

I'd posted earlier that I disabled the Citation template due to performance issues. I updated a couple extensions and it seems better now.

Sure, just let me know which templates need to be imported. It was an out-of-date "ParserFunctions" extension that caused the performance problem, so that's now fixed.

When I was debugging the performance problem I set $wgDisableCounters and $wgMiserMode which turned those off. I've reenabled both.

I also cleaned up a few configuration problems I discovered while importing the templates which improve performance. In addition I figured out a way to stop the Chinese trackback bots that were clawing at the blog page, driving my load averages through the roof :)

If anyone is looking to do this hack, there are a couple of the BT431KC chips currently available on eBay. I already bought and received two from the seller for my own use:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0619029119

It took two years to get any eBay hits on BT431KC (I created the search right after jan-jaap started this thread), so grab them while you can :)

I'd been meaning to respond to this since I've converted all my media to online storage as well. Unfortunately, I'm not using a general purpose device so I don't have much advice to give in this specific instance (I use Handbrake encoded MKV files streaming from a file server to a dedicated media computer).

Yep, I realize that. It's just that the best solution to unconditionally enabled subtitles (in my personal experience) is to use an MKV container.

Also, is there a clear path for packages to go from /beta to /current? It seems like we're approaching a situation where many commonly-used packages are in /beta, which makes it more of an issue that some of the /beta packages aren't really tested.

As I've said before, someone just needs to let me know. I'm not clairvoyant - I don't know which packages you use and have had good success with. I also don't currently have an SGI system running to test myself (all machines are currently in storage or just not hooked up).

By the same token, if packages are totally broken, let me know that as well so they can be moved to the obsolete directory. Once again, I don't have mystical powers of deduction to determine which packages borked your system. You need to tell me.

ianj wrote: The installer is more iffy. I don't care whether it comes on a DVD or not, but I like to apply new major OS X releases as fresh installs, not upgrades. It's important to me that the OS be available as some sort of full-install image and not just an update pulled from the Internet by a running OS X installation.

You can do a full, clean install with the app store download. You can even burn a bootable DVD or USB drive if need be.

If you need Apple II ROM images, ReactiveMicro has them on their website:

They also offer them burned to physical ROMs if you aren't in the mood to do-it-yourself.

NcFTPd seems to do that after being up continuously for 30 days or so (I had the same issue with the IRIX version). I probably should create a cron job that restarts it every week.

Anyway, it's been restarted and is working again.

I have a Sharp X68000 XVI I bought through eBay almost four years ago (October 2007). It came in the original box (with all documentation and accessories) and set me back $799 (shipping from Japan to the US came to $165 for a total of $964). I've also purchased a lot of game titles over the years, they mostly ranged $10-$20 each unless they were exceptionally rare.

It can be helpful. Most of the arcade/console style games don't require any Japanese proficiency while the RPGs and visual novels certainly do. I guess it depends on what you plan on using the machine for :)
