The collected works of nekonoko - Page 14

Hmm, maybe the red-haired version would offer better contrast; that one just looks like a blob of yellow at 16 x 16 :)

Here's a PNG if you want to play with it some:

Exactly - that's why I gave on it years ago ;)

That was more in reply to porter; as he's running 6.5.22 and it is known to be broken in that regard. You didn't indicate which version of IRIX you were using, so it was hard to say one way or another if that was something you needed to look at as well.

Yeah, still seems like I'm having to redo them all the time (years go by quickly as you get older) - would be nice if they were permanent :)

6.5.30 here. No problems with Blender 2.48 and a proper .B.blend file, but Blender 2.49 just cores with a bus error.

Hamei, I've been meaning to ask - are public tantrums commonplace in China? There were a couple well publicized YouTube videos mentioned on CNN recently of Chinese women completely losing it, crying, screaming and kicking on the floor like babies. One over missing a flight and another over soup. Just amazing! :)

jmc wrote: Hi Neko! Did you find the time to make another Video of your Crimson? :)

Well, there have been some time constraints as well as extremely warm weather that have kept me from powering the Crimson up again. When the outdoor temperature hits 40C (and nearly 30C inside with crappy in-wall AC unit running), firing up a space heater becomes a foolish proposition :)

Maybe more toward this Fall unless we get some cooler weekend weather.

I imported it from the UK via eBay. Came with the original box and accessories - doesn't have any school markings that I can see.

I pulled everything out just now - this is what I have:

I also have a few original games on diskette in the back room someplace.

Sounds fantastic - would like to see it! I've always had an interest in classic systems that weren't released over here, from the Japanese MSX and X68000 systems to popular UK machines by Acorn, Sinclair and Amstrad.

I recently bought a great book entitled " Digital Retro: The Evolution and Design of the Personal Computer ", by Gordan Laing. It's essentially a coffee table book with beautiful photos of a lot of the usual suspects, plus interesting systems I'd not seen before, such as the Nascom 1, Tangerine Microtan 65, Grundy NewBrain, Dragon 32, Jupiter ACE and Oric-1. Well worth checking out.

Very nice! I may wind up doing this in my second O350 node (the one without the IO9). Does anyone know the difference between a Tezro rack and a "modded" Onyx 350 InfinitePerformance? They smell the same to me :)

Someone needs to get a V12 in one of these - I think that might be part of how the PROM and software recognizes the difference - I know, for one, that Discreet licensing recognizes my system as a "fuelv10"

That's probably the key - Tezro never shipped with a V10 so it makes sense in that respect.

Wonder who designed the onyx2 deskside and O2, these are my favourites. Actually octanes, indigos and indy are nice too.

The O2 was done by Lunar Design , the Indy by IDEO .

There's already a captcha. However, that's not going to stop actual people who are being paid to log on to sites and leave spam. The only way to deal with that is how we've been doing it the past seven years - delete the posts and ban the user.

Great picture, thanks! I've had to clean up some leaky batteries in vintage hardware myself over the past year or so - motherboard batteries in my Amiga 2000 and 4000 (no motherboard damage, fortunately) and the 1.5V AA battery box in my Apple III+. The leads on the Apple III's battery box had corroded away due to the acid, so I scrubbed it down and re-soldered everything back together.

The same way you keep any system secure - make sure all public facing services are patched and up to date.

The important ones will be the services you use (SSH/SSL, HTTP, FTP), and those are the most likely to be third-party anyway.

Yep, exactly right. I roll my own builds of all those (excepting a commercial, third-party FTP server), plugging them in usually within hours of release. I'm even running openssl-1.0.0-beta2 for grins :) I also offer all of the Nekochan builds for download if anyone desires to use them elsewhere.

Another part of the equation is the software you run on the stack (things like phpBB, Gallery, SquirrelMail, etc.). Those need to be kept up to date as well on any platform you ultimately choose.

Security is an ongoing process on any platform. The only truly secure system is one not connected to the public internet.

(And yes, hamei - I know php-5.3.0 was just released today. xcache doesn't support 5.3 just yet so I'm going to wait a little) ;)

Looks like it was a stale pidfile that kept the service from starting. Just send me a PM if you notice problems like this - that way I can act on them quickly.

Universal posting access is not available on the Nekochan gallery. I've enabled attachments in the forum itself to give folks a place to share pictures without needing a separate account or off-site image storage. I just don't have the available bandwidth to turn this place into a Flickr clone.

I've been kicking around the idea of moving to vBulletin at some point. Is there any interest in this, or is everyone satisfied with phpBB3 for the most part? Would entail me paying out $180 to get the license, but if it's something that is preferred, I certainly go that route.
