confirmed. ;-)

Excellent! Thanks for doing a sanity check; it's been moved to 'current'.

new in beta:

neko_x264-0.50.564.tardist - H264/avc encoder

Wow, that sounds great - definitely will give it a try. Any chance for even a rough build of mplayer for x264 playback in the near future? That's the only missing piece ;)

schleusel wrote: I uploaded a very bare svn build (all external features disabled, only linked against system libs) two weeks ago, feel free to give it a try: http://www.kanera.de/mplayer-svn/
This one is built with the /opt/mplayer prefix so it will pick up the osd fonts and mplayer.conf of the old package if you have it installed. Just make sure to move the old codecs.conf out of the way.

Nice, thanks! It's very solid on the DIVX encoded content I've thrown at it so far in both avi and mkv containers (mkv has always been troublesome in the past); no crashes at all with this build. Doesn't like my h264 content much (lots of frame decoding errors) but still a very nice update.

Aha - yep, that was the problem; was just expecting it to be a bit more verbose :) Looks like I need to find a 700 or 800MHz CPU for my Fuel. Thanks for the hints!

fu wrote: there was no "faces" directory under /usr/lib/ nor /usr/local/lib so i created 'em and copyied the image file over there:

mad_127_100.rgb
o2 2# ls /usr/local/lib/faces/fu
mad_127_100.rgb

You need to rename the image file so it matches your login name, i.e. mv mad_127_100.rgb fu

So it should look like: /usr/local/lib/faces/fu (with fu being the image file itself, not a subdirectory)

Here's an example from my Fuel (I use /usr/lib/faces instead of /usr/local/lib/faces but either location works):

Well I've been trying to get a Firefox-2.0 built for Nekoware but have hit a snag I can't seem to find a solution for. I'm able to build the entire thing, but the very last link phase on the binary throws a spurious '-L' flag into the mix:

It's possible to manually link the above by correcting the '-L-L../../dist/bin' bit on the command line. Unfortunately this doesn't provide a solution since it'll just try to do it again once 'gmake -f client.mk build' is executed afterward.

The 'mozilla' build system is convoluted and about the only thing I can determine is that the bad link is part of the $(EXTRA_LIBS) variable in the link phase (line 809 of mozilla/rules.mk). $(EXTRA_LIBS) seems to get all sorts of things heaped into it from all over the place so I'm not able to isolate just where that one little bit is coming from.

As a point of reference, Firefox-1.5 series did not have this problem - the same bit is there but without the extra '-L':

Code: Select all

CC -o firefox-bin -I/usr/nekoware/include -I/usr/nekoware/include/glib-1.2 -I/usr/nekoware/lib/glib/include  -LANG:exceptions=OFF -O3 -mips4 -n32 -Zf,_245 -INLINE -woff 1110,1171,1201,1355,3201 -woff 3262 -G 4 -n32  -DNDEBUG -DTRIMMED -O3  nsBrowserApp.o nsStaticComponents.o   -L/usr/nekoware/lib -n32   -Wl,-LD_LAYOUT:lgot_buffer=80 -L../../dist/bin -L../../dist/lib ../../dist/lib/components/libxpcom_compat_c.a ../../dist/lib/components/libxpconnect.a ../../dist/lib/components/libuconv.a ../../dist/lib/components/libucvmath.a ../../dist/lib/components/libi18n.a ../../dist/lib/components/libnecko.a ../../dist/lib/components/libnecko2.a ../../dist/lib/components/libjar50.a ../../dist/lib/components/libpref.a ../../dist/lib/components/libcaps.a ../../dist/lib/components/librdf.a ../../dist/lib/components/libhtmlpars.a ../../dist/lib/components/libgfxps.a ../../dist/lib/components/libgfx_gtk.a ../../dist/lib/components/libimglib2.a ../../dist/lib/components/libgkplugin.a ../../dist/lib/components/libwidget_gtk.a ../../dist/lib/components/libgklayout.a ../../dist/lib/components/libdocshell.a ../../dist/lib/components/libembedcomponents.a ../../dist/lib/components/libwebbrwsr.a ../../dist/lib/components/libeditor.a ../../dist/lib/components/libtxmgr.a ../../dist/lib/components/libnsappshell.a ../../dist/lib/components/liboji.a ../../dist/lib/components/libchrome.a ../../dist/lib/components/libmork.a ../../dist/lib/components/libmozfind.a ../../dist/lib/components/libappcomps.a ../../dist/lib/components/libfileview.a ../../dist/lib/components/libremoteservice.a ../../dist/lib/components/libcommandlines.a ../../dist/lib/components/libtoolkitcomps.a ../../dist/lib/components/libpipboot.a ../../dist/lib/components/libpipnss.a ../../dist/lib/components/libpippki.a ../../dist/lib/components/libcookie.a ../../dist/lib/components/libxmlextras.a ../../dist/lib/components/libautoconfig.a ../../dist/lib/components/libtransformiix.a ../../dist/lib/components/libuniversalchardet.a ../../dist/lib/components/libwebsrvcs.a ../../dist/lib/components/libauth.a ../../dist/lib/components/libpermissions.a ../../dist/lib/components/libsearchservice.a ../../dist/lib/components/libbrowserdirprovider.a ../../dist/lib/components/libbrowsercomps.a ../../dist/lib/libunicharutil_s.a ../../dist/lib/libucvutil_s.a ../../dist/lib/libgtksuperwin.a ../../dist/lib/libgtkxtbin.a ../../dist/lib/libgfxshared_s.a ../../dist/lib/libgfxft2_s.a ../../dist/lib/libgfxpsshar.a ../../dist/lib/libgkgfx.a ../../dist/lib/libjsj.a ../../dist/lib/libxulapp_s.a  -L../../dist/lib -lmozpng -lm -L../../dist/lib -lmozjpeg -L../../dist/lib -lmozz  -L../../dist/bin -L../../dist/lib ../../dist/lib/libcrmf.a -lsmime3 -lssl3 -lnss3 -lsoftokn3    -lXt -L../../dist/lib -lxpcom_compat -L../../dist/lib/components  ../../dist/lib/libxulapp_s.a -L../../dist/bin -lmozjs -L../../dist/bin -lxpcom -lxpcom_core -L../../dist/lib -lplds4 -lplc4 -lnspr4 -L/usr/nekoware/lib -lpthread -ldl -L/usr/nekoware/lib -lgtk -lgdk -lgmodule -lglib -lintl -lXext -lX11 -lm   -lX11  -lsocket -ldl -lm -lfastm -lm -lpthread

I can't locate any differences that would account for it in the configuration files though.

This has been a problem throughout the Firefox-2.0 prerelease series, but now that it's 'gold' I'd like to see this running on IRIX. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get the build system over this hump we should be home free ...

I also filed a Bugzilla bug on this (#357780) to see if I can get some feedback on that end.

Okay, I found a nasty hack. Seems that the corrupt portion is part of NSS_LIBS which is embedded into STATIC_EXTRA_LIBS in config/static-config.mk. I just copied the whole '-L../../dist/bin -L../../dist/lib -lcrmf -lsmime3 -lssl3 -lnss3 -lsoftokn3' line and added it to STATIC_EXTRA_LIBS manually in the same file (killed the variable). We'll see how that goes :)

Okay - builds now, but just cores on startup.

Looks like foetz opened a bug; no further comments on it for a while though:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351261

I tried reverting https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347645 as mentioned but still get the crash in the same place.

Looks like Firefox-2.0 is DOA on IRIX unless someone with more skills than I can work this out.

Not sure how to go about doing that (engineer, yadda yadda), but I can contribute a before/after of that code block (Firefox-1.5.0.7 and Firefox-2.0):

Firefox-1.5.0.7 jsarena.c:

Code: Select all

JS_InitArenaPool(JSArenaPool *pool, const char *name, size_t size, size_t align)
{
#ifdef JS_THREADSAFE
/* Must come through here once in primordial thread to init safely! */
if (!arena_freelist_lock) {
arena_freelist_lock = JS_NEW_LOCK();
JS_ASSERT(arena_freelist_lock);
}
#endif
if (align == 0)
align = JS_ARENA_DEFAULT_ALIGN;
pool->mask = JS_BITMASK(JS_CeilingLog2(align));
pool->first.next = NULL;
pool->first.base = pool->first.avail = pool->first.limit =
JS_ARENA_ALIGN(pool, &pool->first + 1);
pool->current = &pool->first;
pool->arenasize = size;
#ifdef JS_ARENAMETER
memset(&pool->stats, 0, sizeof pool->stats);
pool->stats.name = strdup(name);
pool->stats.next = arena_stats_list;
arena_stats_list = &pool->stats;
#endif
}

Firefox-2.0 jsarena.c:

Code: Select all

JS_InitArenaPool(JSArenaPool *pool, const char *name, size_t size, size_t align)
{
if (align == 0)
align = JS_ARENA_DEFAULT_ALIGN;
pool->mask = JS_BITMASK(JS_CeilingLog2(align));
pool->first.next = NULL;
pool->first.base = pool->first.avail = pool->first.limit =
JS_ARENA_ALIGN(pool, &pool->first + 1);
pool->current = &pool->first;
pool->arenasize = size;

It's an issue with rqs on your system. You should be able to fix it by following the instructions davea posted here:

Sometimes that works (pretty much by chance) if rqs happens to remap the DSO to a better location when installing the new version, but it's not a 100% solution. davea's method will fix it though :)

Okay got this licked - new static MIPSpro Firefox-2.0 build in 'beta'. Hint was in bug #79562 - apparently they were maintaining a MIPSpro optimization exception list for certain files in the JS tree; jsxdrapi.o needs to be added to that list:

gtk1 or gtk2 based?

It's GTK1; GTK2 is just too slow under IRIX. Can't make a static build as easily either.

I think Cairo can only deal with a 24-bit visual (-depth 24 on Xservers line) - 8 (IRIX default) or 32 cause it to crash.

You're not looking in the right place. Take the side panel off your Fuel and locate the L1 serial port on the motherboard , near the PIMM.

Could be - thought it is was 19200/8/1/n but you may need to experiment on the line speed.

Yep, either a bad power supply or (more likely) incorrect environmental monitoring. If you feel like taking a chance you can turn off the env monitoring by issuing 'env off' at the L1 prompt. Then boot the system.

Nope, you'd need to swap the entire motherboard - it's integrated. Glad it's working for you though.

Well getting 2.0 straightened out was a bear, but once the porting work is done it's trivial to produce the point releases. The fun will begin again when they move on to 3.0 ;)

Do we have anything in /beta that can be moved to /current? Looks like some stuff has been in there a while now.

Not a problem. Looks like this was sent out as an update because Oracle finally patched their bundled library: "Oracle has released the January 2007 Critical Patch Update and updates to address the buffer overflow vulnerability in the SSL_get_shared_ciphers function of OpenSSL." Other than that, old news :)

I just (re-)installed neko_gimp from /current and I noticed that it (still) lacks the dependency on libart in the tardist. I thought I recalled someone posting about this issue in the past, but I couldn't find it.

I don't think anyone's touched that package in a long time. Volunteers are welcome :)
