I assume you need at least three, one for each of the two nameservers and one for the site itself? Dunno about Pete, but my T1 is ultimately Megapath (it's actually via DSL Extreme via COVAD). I get 16 IPs, though three are reserved including one for the T1 router. I use Netsol as the nameserver for Floodgap, though I used to run it locally. I imagine the business DSL/business Ethernet deals are similar.

That said, if I didn't have a need for home monitoring, I'd probably buy a slice and run it off of that.

So to answer the above question: you still need the CD, because the FEP .ilod is loaded from it (even if you have the Breath of Life). And the reason I can answer the question?

http://www.floodgap.com/iv/2732

I'm going to reconfigure it again because 201MW of swap seems incredibly excessive and it's impairing me making a nice fat LMFS partition in the filer, but at least now I know it will work. Final configuration of the MegaLispMac:

- Macintosh IIci, recapped
- System 7.1 (my preference)
- 64MB RAM
- AppleCD 150 1x CD-ROM (300 didn't work)
- MacIvory 3 with RAM board
- Apple Ethernet NuBus board (might change out, Genera is having trouble talking to it)
- DayStar Digital 50MHz '030 PDS accelerator (I had in stock)
- Apple 8*24*GC accelerated video, in 1152x870 mode (I had in stock)

This hobby is too damn expensive, but at least it's working now, and I'm actually rather enjoying learning the Symbolics way.

Don't use huepl, the guy who wrote it is a total dork.

Anyway, what's the firmware on your base station? It's possible it changed -- both my base stations are very early FW because they've never connected to Philips, so they've never been updated. What does 'huepl lights' say? Are these standard hue lights or are they the "non-colour" ones only?

That's the problem: I even didn't thought that there are non-colour ones. And my ones are the Hue Lux (exactly these non-colour ones). My fault :-(

Yep, that's them. At some point I should add code to detect this. You should be able to change colour temperature at least though -- 'huepl ct xxx'

If that works, then it's probably working fine on IRIX (though the fact you can do everything else strongly implies it is, in fact, working correctly).

I guess I'm the only one who still writes OpenMotif apps for OS X, or at least the only one that cares, but IST OpenMotif is broken on El Crapitan because of SIP. It expects to write to /usr and you can't do that anymore.

Before you all say "disable rootless protection" it's pretty clear to me Apple's not going to support that forever, and while I think SIP is a good idea executed badly, it's obviously here to stay. But IST doesn't want to make further updates, so I patched their last two releases of OpenMotif to live in /Applications (which is not under SIP) and be linkable from there. You can get it and all the development headers and libraries for 10.4 or 10.5-10.11, PowerPC (natch) or i386.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/openmotif-mac/

There are no other changes other than to rewrite the dylib linking to its new home, and a bit of monkeypatching on one of the dylibs for the new path. If you were using Mosaic-CK or GopherVR and want to update those,

I got the same error. Assuming you're running the 8.18 executable, the problem is that the VM settings are probably too low. The vm stanza in /etc/sysconfigtab looks like this on my 5.1B system:

swapdevice = /dev/disk/dsk0b

Then we've got to have done something differently. Do you have everything locally installed? This is the part I can't get past, which is the exact commands given in the install guide:

Code: Select all

Please login.
Command: (si:login-to-sys-host)
NIL
Command: (fs::set-logical-pathname-host "SYS"
:translations '(("**;*.*" "dis-emb-host:/cdrom/sys.sct/**/*.*")))
#<FS:LOGICAL-HOST SYS>
Command: (cons

At this point I pressed Meta-Shift-A, to see if it would pull the stuff from CD over NFS. It still doesn't:

Code: Select all

Error: RPC access denied by server for transaction 11.

FWIW, NFS is working fine. Here's the view from harlan. I made everything intentionally weak and open to everyone to eliminate that as a factor.

Code: Select all

# /usr/sbin/mount -t cdfs -o rrip /dev/disk/cdrom0c /cdrom
# ls /cdrom
AXP              NOTICE.TEXT;119  quickstart.ps    sys.sct
DISTRIBUTION     README           quickstart.text
# tail /etc/exports
#         accepted.  Client can be a host name, IP address, or NIS
#         netgroup.  If a mount access list is not provided, the path
#         is exported to all hosts.
#

/cdrom -root=0
/ -root=0
/usr -root=0
/var -root=0

And here's the view from another host trying to mount the CD-ROM:

Code: Select all

oulu(2):/home/spectre/# mount harlan:/cdrom testmnt
WARNING: autoselecting nfs based on : or @ in the device name is deprecated!

If I didn't have a couple spare Fuel systems with PSUs I could raid, I would definitely buy this.

Most of my machines are on a secured network that can't route (directly) to the Internet. Only a few have outside facing NICs, and none of them are the SGIs.

CPU PPC970MP 2.3GHz - Is this dual CPU?

Yes (more accurately it's dual core). This is the fastest air-cooled G5. The earlier dual processor 2.3 is slightly slower but has a better reliability track record, though both are solid machines.

IMHO, only the DP (and DC) 2.3 and the Quad are worth owning, the 2.3 because it's easier to maintain and less prone to problems, and the Quad because, well, it's the Quad.

I have not heard good things about Linux on the G5, mostly due to various things about the cooling system not being properly driven by the kernel. I'm sticking with Tiger on mine. If the fan is going gangbusters in it, it might just be Linux. Wouldn't hurt to refresh the thermal paste though.

Just a Sun Ultra-3 laptop, which works great, even though it will cook testicles into meatballs if you use it on your lap.

The Solbourne S3000 probably qualifies, but it's sick and won't boot. :(

Not exactly OT but I've found recent versions of Firefox to be almost unusable on my Linux box,

Another reason to prefer the ESR builds.
