O2, 400MHz R12000A, 576MB RAM, 73GB HDD

Just upgraded from a 175MHz R10000 - a much more usable machine post-upgrade. Now if I could just find a 16:9 video mode that would agree with my monitor... And now a 15k RPM 73GB that's much quieter than the machine-gun Quantum Atlas 10k that was in there.

Also, replaced the PSU fan with a quieter (a hair less CFM) more modern fan.

I wish I could enter into the vegetable garden of William Gibson , on the right of a director, to decide how a film is ultimately released for public viewing, but I am not a nor Cyberpunk writer neither a dude in Hollywood , and my * flawless English * still looks like an old rusty trailer which needs a fix-up, so my personal wonderland begins with a pill ... tumbling down the rabbit hole , where the sky above the router port is the color of television, tuned to a dead channel and some gears still need a debugger there.
Yeah it's really a much better machine now - using it a lot more these days. The 400MHz R12k really speeds up the graphics too, feels like a much more modern machine. I'll probably try to max out the ram and maybe put an Audigy in it, well, just because. I also need a 1600SW adapter to hook it up to one of two I have. It's so strange to have the 1600SW hooked up to a Windows98 machine instead of the O2. :)

Edits to first post and title due to some upgrades to HDD and PSU fan. I also have a Commodore 1084 hanging off the composite output now. I know TV work was one of the design points and practical uses of the O2, but I'm still amazed at how good the NTSC output is. Something about CRT color just seems ... natural.

What replacement fan did you install?

I used a Cooler Master R4-BM8S-30PK-R0 - supposedly 40.8 CFM @ 3000 rpm, so about 2/3 of the CFM rating on the original fan, and at that rate it's not the quietest fan in the world. Still, it's just air noise now instead of the whine from the original fan. I wanted to err on the side of too loud vs. too little cooling, so I'm pretty happy with the choice.

I'm working on a photo. The photo's not the problem, it's moving enough of the rat's nest around so you can actually see it :)

According to http://datasheet.octopart.com/FBA08A12U ... 276522.pdf the original Panaflo is specced at 46.9 CFM so your Cooler Master is more like 6/7 of the Panaflo CFM rating. And all that cooling with only 28dB noise, that's very good!

You've wisely chosen for more throughput at the expense of noise. In the case of the R12K i fully agree with your decision.
