Just upgraded from a 175MHz R10000 - a much more usable machine post-upgrade. Now if I could just find a 16:9 video mode that would agree with my monitor... And now a 15k RPM 73GB that's much quieter than the machine-gun Quantum Atlas 10k that was in there.

Also, replaced the PSU fan with a quieter (a hair less CFM) more modern fan.

Yeah it's really a much better machine now - using it a lot more these days. The 400MHz R12k really speeds up the graphics too, feels like a much more modern machine. I'll probably try to max out the ram and maybe put an Audigy in it, well, just because. I also need a 1600SW adapter to hook it up to one of two I have. It's so strange to have the 1600SW hooked up to a Windows98 machine instead of the O2. :)

That's a nice rig - I just put an XVR-1200 in my Ultra80 (Quad 450mhz UltraSparc-II), replacing an Expert3d.

Even though the card is pretty aged at this point, I think it's probably still overpowered for the (even older) CPU's that are my machine. Still, it really sped up screen redraws, and Quake III is now actually playable at full-screen 1920x1200 resolutions.

Hah! Well, then kindred spirits we are indeed, as I have a 8mb Permedia 2 AGP card in my stack of ancient equipment - it was a great card, IIRC, one of the best OpenGL implementations available in the PC market at the time. I've recently thought of summoning a retro PC from the pile -- it might make an appearance soon...

I don't have any O2 running on anything but 6.5.30m, which I think is what you are running on as well, but I went ahead and compiled and ran the program for the sake of verification. The output is attached.

I'd be glad to test anything else you have, or if you have any suggestions on things to delve into myself, I could try that too - I'm handy enough with C-like languages.

Edits to first post and title due to some upgrades to HDD and PSU fan. I also have a Commodore 1084 hanging off the composite output now. I know TV work was one of the design points and practical uses of the O2, but I'm still amazed at how good the NTSC output is. Something about CRT color just seems ... natural.

I used a Cooler Master R4-BM8S-30PK-R0 - supposedly 40.8 CFM @ 3000 rpm, so about 2/3 of the CFM rating on the original fan, and at that rate it's not the quietest fan in the world. Still, it's just air noise now instead of the whine from the original fan. I wanted to err on the side of too loud vs. too little cooling, so I'm pretty happy with the choice.

I'm working on a photo. The photo's not the problem, it's moving enough of the rat's nest around so you can actually see it :)
