My o2 is

I'm attempting an update to 6.5.30 (actually anything) but I'm getting the following in loads of conflicts.

Code: Select all

1b. Also install eoe.sw.base (1289662620 - 1289662699) from an additional
distribution -- insert another CD or specify another software
distribution.

eoe.sw.base... I've tried literally all the disks and dist folders I have.. WTF.. I will give up soon and do a clean install, it's not like there is anything of interest on it!

My base 6.5 comprises of the fat package containing 6.5.7 Installation Tools and Overlays et al - Which I have used in the past for bare bones installs, plus all the other relevant disks (even fat 6.5.1 package). I've thrown in a tonne of Disks (and I do have a fair few) from other libraries I have and none rectify the conflict.

Possible conflict issue maybe.. the o2 is now a 300MHZ r12000 yet the disk comes from an R5000 (another machine) ? Possible issue?

well nearly.. :D

Finally in my hands is my new fuel which is just darn beutiful and so quiet, perfect skins. Came with a really nice Dell monitor.

Not sure if this is a worry or standard, but when I plugged in the power there was a high pitched whine which went when I powered it on.

It's just so fast and quiet I can't get over it... resolution is 1920x1200 which coming from all my other boxes running at 1280x1024 is something to get used to. With my eyesight I've had to enlarge the icons somewhat..

Worth the pain and wait..

No more special cable since I'm now using a Dr Bott SGI Saver thing instead of the SGI MLA. It works better, sync faster and doesn't need any special cable.

ah.. possible why I had issues, I was using the SGi MLA with a modified cable, which did work, but kept loosing settings once a week.

My only issue was with the 1600sw and MLA in normal use (loosing settings), but in SMOKE it was pointless, it doesn't support it and just stretched the screen across both. I would say they work fine.

Different places, different Christmases. I'm in Germany with the wife at the moment, and they celebrate Christmas on the 24th (and open the presents then). 25th is just a day for eating too much... :)

...Like in France, we, in general, open the presents the evening on christmas eve ;)

Christmas eve is not Christmas Day.. Christmas itself is not defined by when you open presents?? Christmas is 'Commonly' throughout the would 25th December. I would argue that according to Norad Santa.. Santa came on Christmas day.. but he actually arrived at our house at 10 to midnight last night, but then, is that because presents must be delivered before Christmas? Which brings me onto another point.. how did you open your presents before they were delivered?

Having worked with 1280x1024 on all my SGi machines (with the exception of the o2/Octane2 1600sw combo) I was ultimately surprised at the monitor that came with my fuel - Dell 2007FPb (24544 - shown by gfxinfo) - and working with irix at such resolution as 1920x1200_60.

So I bought another one for my Smoke Octane2. (I wasn't quite as complete as I thought I was - anyway, it was only £30)

And it is fantastic for capturing / displaying etc and just screen real-estate..

BUT...

On the Input Clip screen (capturing) - The menu/buttons now appear across the bottom and I'm missing part/some buttons. Before @ 1280x1024 they were set out very different.

This occurs on 720 HD projects not on 625 SD

Thoughts.. I'm 99% to completion.

The big red is a fantastic machine, so quick and responsive, and although a bit noisier than the intel servers I have, is still very quiet compared to the Octane.

Mine is running at 1920x1200, which is nice albeit a little small (1600x1200 doesn't look too nice on the monitor I have, there are many thick vertical lines).

I've ordered a replacement tape drive(lto) for an intel server, so I'll be putting in a DAT72 in the next few days. I'm also hoping (in the future) to obtain a DM6 from my good friend Ian if he has one, to tag onto the VBOB to make it all complete.

But yes.. the big red is without doubt a brilliant SGI

Not so along there was a long discussion on the Scottish Referendum. This wasn't pulled, so I think the political policy is a bit of a white wash here. The difference was though, that discussion was mature, polite and factually (as much as it could be considering we were discussing future events) correct. Now I love the guy [Hamei] but sometimes he comes across sooooo wrong, like he's on some super angry drugs, and at the wrong time with zero thought for individuals living in different areas of the world. What he says may be correct( at times), but he's like a Tyrannosaurus at a Convention for Vegetarians at times.

Also, can I just point out - this was not a post in homage for Hamei, but it was certainly quiet for a few days after he announced his departure.

I would suggest this thread is frozen, deleted and sent with the plans to the death star.. never to re-appear again.. We don't want some faction war here after all.

So, since the UK lotto was £42 million yesterday, I decided to take 2 approaches to my lotto calculating random number generator computing application..
Both carried on the fuel (thinking it may be lucky). The normal 1,000,000 draws.. and another at 42,000,000 sampled draws.....

I got 1 number!!

The second took 26 Hours 44 Minutes (which alleviated my fears of leaving the fuel on over night and setting my house alight).

Anyway, it all proves.. it's current state is a load of b#ll#cks... but fun.

Well, not a silly question at all. One comes direct from the source (S-Video) of the VCR and the other comes from the output of the MSX machine prior to entering the Analog to SD convertor.
At first they aided in seeing what was actually coming out of each device, but they now are more useful in seeing what is playing whilst in edit mode. Plus the second one shows video overlay from the MSX (interlacing 8 bit blocky text over video). They are only useful though for S-Video.

Other than that.. they just add to coolness and my kids like them when I connect the cam-corder.
