I posted a very large box of Software from little old England to Ohio and it took less than 2 days...

This obviously doesn't help, nor does it make you feel any better.. but thought it worthy to note.

Welcome to the board btw.

Windows 8.1 (&8) will mirror (one is primary containing clock etc) the task bar across both screens if that's what we are talking about here?

I'm referring to multiple system panels (since not all contain a task bar) on the same screen.

Sorry, guilty of just butting into a thread there..

Well, picked up my goodies from chicaneuk tonight and drove back very smoothly.

First problem, TOC battery, previous owner had done the mod, but connection wasn't secure.. sellotape and a hair clip has solved that.
While the Date was well out there was all sorts of failures, but setting the date has solved them.
Machine is in excellent condition and clean (thanks chicaneuk) albeit a few scratch's on the roof.
Came with a shitload of stuff, software, cables drives & enclosures.

BUT!!!!

Mouse does not work..

Logging in as root has the cursor in the centre of the screen on top of a shell.. So I can type stuff, but navigating around is a bit of an issue (ideas?).

In the collection of software, there is a CD called Desktop Special Edition 1.1 1995 812-0410-002 11/95

So much software, I haven't had a chance to go through it yet.

Of interest installed on the system, Usual C/C++/Fortran etc.. plus Pro/Engineer & it works.. and when it works.. the mouse moves, in very small jumps..

I'll post hinv once I get it on the network.. and it's name is BLACK...

I cannot believe after all these years I have an Indigo again.. without doubt my favourite SGI! :D

### Edit ### I think the mouse is disabled because it had tablet????
### Edit Edit ### And relax.. it's now working... :?
### Edit Edit Edit ### After a cold boot it starts playing up again. Mouse ball? Heat?
### Edit Edit Edit Edit ### Turns out it was a sticky ball.. judging by what I found.. I am not surprised.

Still having issues with mouse on my Indigo.

Last night after cleaning, it worked fine for all the 5 hours I spent surfing the 90s porn.

Today.. no joy.. Back to it's random catch the chicken state.

Taking into account, the mouse plugs into the keyboard and the keyboard is standard..

Has anyone plugged a PS/2 Mouse into the keyboard of these machines? I know it's stated you must use the Indigo Keyboard.. but mouse?

I'm not going to do it until I have it confirmed it's ok.. otherwise I'll have to search for a new keyboard and mouse until it's then discovered it's a motherboard issue.

Thanks..

It was a bad idea and incorrect.. the problem is defiantly some sort heat related issue, maybe with a capacitator.

Cold boot .. doesn't work.

Can't get there from the prom, he doesn't have an os installed yet :(

You might be able to do a < serial all > from the prom, then cross-reference the part numbers. I can't remember if you had to be booted up to do that or not tho.

the fun part is yet to come, installing irix :P

ah yes, sorry, missed the bit about the OS not installed yet DUH!

So the Tape drive has failed in the Indigo.
I put a cleaning tape in, it chewed it up.
I put another cleaning tape, it chewed that up also..
Then since I was on a mission to destroy my complete stock, I put a normal tape in.. then it wouldn't eject and on boot up the device fails, and will not eject.

Hey Ho..

I have a replacement tape drive (albeit cream coloured).

Now the original Tape part number 25607 or LAA09485 or 4320NT has row of micro switches, 2 of which are ON, numbers 4 & 5.
I'm replacing with a Compaq SDT-7000.

Does anyone know if these are DC Disable, SCSI Parity Enabled, Term Power On or Terminator Enable?

I don't know the condition of the replacement Tape Drive, but fingers crossed it's OK

It fits, the ID plug fits it's just these jumpers I'd like to be confident about.

Thanks

That's what the title said. It was indeed an Apple Silver Power Mac type base system for £10.

A few stickers on the top hand written read:
2.3 GHZ
Power Mac
3GB Ram

Lisa
Store (or Stone)
FI
Aircon
2.3GB
with 3GB Ram

The back picture shows it has Dual DVI-D
2 Ethernet
Firewire 800
Firewire 400
Optical Audio Out (or in)
Optical Audio In (or out)
Audio In & Out
3USB

In that order (top down)

It's located not far, so for £10.. I bought it! Collection tomorrow night.

I suspect it's G5. It's not like I don't have enough stuff.. but I suppose that what you get when you visit your parents and all the talk is weddings and you have your phone.

On collection, the guys asks if I want another for a fiver.. I say, I only have a tenner on me.. off he goes to get it anyway, and says, just take it..

Well, first one in excellent condition, but missing HDDs & Caddies & more importantly the power lead!!!! I'm hoping I have one in the loft from my old iMac that packed in some years ago.

The second has a damaged base, memory missing and all sorts of things that make it look like its been a bit cannibalized. Still not complaining for free.

I have now officially run out of space in my house!

Technically put, unless you give it a life saving jolt, aka dropping it off a table it really is FSCKED!

Years back I did have a drive I saved and in fact it lasted many years post. The heads did not like the edges of the platter, so I glued an eraser inside to stop it going to far, actually and I know I am old enough to suffer data loss in my memory, I'm sure the heads had actually fell off the platter, but that does seem a bit incredible. Anyhow, it worked what ever the issue was.

Considering the effectiveness of turning my Octanes on to generate heat, I thought to myself, surely, the fact that you can heat your room and be productive on an Octane at the same time, then it beats having a heater on hands down? Therefore I do not feel guilty turning them on!
