New Indigo XZ 4000

Well, picked up my goodies from chicaneuk tonight and drove back very smoothly.

First problem, TOC battery, previous owner had done the mod, but connection wasn't secure.. sellotape and a hair clip has solved that.
While the Date was well out there was all sorts of failures, but setting the date has solved them.
Machine is in excellent condition and clean (thanks chicaneuk) albeit a few scratch's on the roof.
Came with a shitload of stuff, software, cables drives & enclosures.

BUT!!!!

Mouse does not work..

Logging in as root has the cursor in the centre of the screen on top of a shell.. So I can type stuff, but navigating around is a bit of an issue (ideas?).

In the collection of software, there is a CD called Desktop Special Edition 1.1 1995 812-0410-002 11/95

So much software, I haven't had a chance to go through it yet.

Of interest installed on the system, Usual C/C++/Fortran etc.. plus Pro/Engineer & it works.. and when it works.. the mouse moves, in very small jumps..

I'll post hinv once I get it on the network.. and it's name is BLACK...

I cannot believe after all these years I have an Indigo again.. without doubt my favourite SGI! :D

### Edit ### I think the mouse is disabled because it had tablet????
### Edit Edit ### And relax.. it's now working... :?
### Edit Edit Edit ### After a cold boot it starts playing up again. Mouse ball? Heat?
### Edit Edit Edit Edit ### Turns out it was a sticky ball.. judging by what I found.. I am not surprised.

Well, chicaneuk did say he was a nice guy and that he was a graphics engineer.. well judging by the amount of porn I've found, I suspect he did very little work! The machines full of it!

I got like, 20 ZIP disks I was given at a sci-fi convention of archived BBS porn from the very late 90's and before.
I keep that box for special occasions. ;)

LOL - are you serious about the porn? Haha :) The drive in my system was dead so I never got to find out of there was anything interesting on it!

I wondered why?

so about What Science Knows, now the Science knows the why on the why my - second hand - McDonald's‎ G3-Book (the laptop starred from Sex & The City ) has a Zip Drive : Spend a Girls Night in, probably, before thinking Carrie Bradshaw and her porno friends to be in DVD streaming, a BBS porn from the very late 90's and before took over a sci-fi convention of archived 100Mbyte zip floppies, and the previous owner of that funny pizza book added a Zip-drive in order to Dive into vintage porn !

It makes sense :lol: :lol: :lol:
Some prowling the streets, looking for sweets from their Candyman , I'm Looking for a new IP30/Octane2
My machine got the Xbow damaged, so I swapped for a second hand Rigol-DG1032Z WaveGen/DDS@30Mhz
IP30 purposes : linux (kernel development), Irix Scientific Apps { Ansys, Catia, Pro/E, FiberSIM, AutoDYNþ }
Other Projects : { Cerberus , Woody Box , 68K-board, SWI_DBG }, discontinued Console hacks { GB , PSX1 }
Wanted Equipments : { U1732C LCR meter by Keysight, alternatives are the welcome }
I was alive for "BBS porn" (when the image had a watermark with a telephone number on it!) and I would be sincerely shocked if there was any after 1995. That's when almost all BBS's shut down for lack of interest.

Not exactly lack of interest, but BBSes were expensive ! Unless you had one right down the street, the phone bills were astronomical.
Juliet ! the dice were loaded from the start ...
So, with a problem with the randomizing chip inside the keyboard and mouse, I thought I'd just export the display and leave it headless.

First thing I wanted to play with was pro/E..

'YOU ARE ATTTEMPTING TO RUN A LOCKED Pro/E WITH AN INVALID DIPLAY SETTING.

PAH!!!

ah well surely the porn will work!
