I've changed the DVD player to a super drive and it has two 230B drives raided in Raid1.

Well that went to pot, it appears I may have drunk too much last night since I put a few 'Make Offer's in on ebay..

Indeed!!

But it has arrived (the AJA KONA card with breakout box).. albeit.. chucked over my garden fence :x :x :x

Downloaded drives/software and read the readme before hand.. and I swear it said 9.x was PPC compatible.. it wasn't and now I can't install 8.1 because the AJA removal tool (TOOL being the operative word here) isn't PPC compatible!! FFS!!

I feel I may do a new OSX install, but instead of RAIDing the two drives, make one drive a time machine drive! Or.. how do I remove it, because it won't let me install 8 over 9. So annoying!!

First moments of success.. You all understand those moments of brilliance.. when you get a blip on the screen and you run over to your wife/husband/other and shout LOOK AT THIS!!! ........ and they just look you up and down with contempt at your productivity which could have been diverted to putting some shelving up!!

Yup B&W but I know what it's attempting, and I'm quite chuffed really, analogue and digital out, and it's throughput from the VBOB.

SWEET!!! :D My global dominating plan is coming together!

I'm looking at an 18U rack cabinet to tidy everything up.

BTW, does anyone know what AJ TV is meant to do?

is that jenga stack @ your home uu?

uunix wrote: BTW, does anyone know what AJ TV is meant to do?

it’s meant for quick previews and/or output of a quicktime sequence. instead of launching your editor, you fire up aja tv that talks to the aja hardware.

Yep and the stack was bigger with video and hi-fi stuff. I had to separate as it was wobbling.

AJ TV does sort of nothing, no window, I have a menu bar, but no window.

I reckon the OSX install is fine, but the AJA install maybe a bit skew-whiff.. So yes, it may be worth starting from scratch.

But what you are saying fu, is that starting AJ TV should open a window that display whatever input the card is receiving?

you said that you funked with the /Library stuff while trying to sort out the aja versions, so that may have broken something along the way :)

uunix wrote: But what you are saying fu, is that starting AJ TV should open a window that display whatever input the card is receiving?

yep, as long as there is input through the card, aja tv should display it live as it happens. check your aja control panel and its input settings.

i’m not in front of a cutting station right now but iirc, there should be a button like “continue playback when in background” that should be checked in aja tv preferences.

what's in the input channel of the kona? camera? vtr?

Removed AJA stuff from the library, possibly it could have corrupted OSX..

The input shows 1080i from the VBOB and I know it's correct as I have TEST SIGNAL output on a screen. So defiantly some input, and I know it's from the VBOB because I have the KONA set to a different pattern.

I'm going to do a fresh install.. (Curse myself for leaving the install DVD at work)..

We installed a mac mini server 10.6 for an accounting company running Windows 7 Clients. It was brilliant, mail, vpn, unlimited clients etc they started with minimal things set up and increased the features along the way.
All was good, until they started having files go missing (they accessed files once a year so to speak). They blamed OSX server so we moved them to Windows 2008 (I have the Mac now). So same things happened again, and I can't quite recall if we set file auditing up, but anyway, we found they had a rouge employee deleting files... BUT.. OSX server was really great, but I read reviews of the later add-on versions and they were not good.

In fact, I have just found my install disks and might get that mac Mini doing what it was born to do... SERVE!

Well, I've just spent a pointless 3 hours taking my family for a meal at a local pub after work. The great thing about this pub, is, the garden is enclosed so you do feel a bit safer with the kids. BUT...
Not only did it start taking a rather annoying time, when it arrived my steak was absolutely without a doubt the worse steak I have ever had.. In my life.. In fact the waitress asked if I was joking when I said.. "This is without doubt the worst steak I have ever had.. IN MY LIFE.. I've had this small cut in my mouth for 20 seconds chewing away and it's come out exactly the same as when it when it.. It's tougher than John Wayne!"

I'm not even sure now it was Steak...

Hi FlasBurn,

Was it a clean disk you installed IRIX on? or Did you make a new file system on your install procedure?
Just wondering if there are left over remains from NFS/NIS ?

Although stopping an install before it's finished is never ideal.

Label/filesystem is not the same thing old chap. You can label a drive and keep the filesystem.

Does the following ring a bell..

Code: Select all

13 - Admin
-----11 - mkfs [blockdevice]

Just want to make sure the drive was completely clear.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where you cannot educate any user.. I agree with your statements .. saying that, on installation of a server and the setup of any AD, you have the opportunity to implement setting via server or GP to minimise any future issues...

1/ Shadow Copies
2/ Software launch restrictions via GP + many other GP options.
3/ Backups!!

An IT company should take responsibility for looking after it's users, regardless of their IQ.

[EDIT] BTW I left off AV.. since it obviously doesn't cope with human intervention!

As far as packaging goes, I will vouch for Ian on this.

Some years back I bought VBOB , Disk array and a whole bunch of stuff. All came striped down in to smaller sections and was just so well packaged.

The kids had more bubble wrap than they could ever imagine, in fact we didn't have to get them anything for Christmas that year..

But even each cable, module was labelled both ends so fitment was a breeze.

I'm not saying this because I want discounts from Ian, he really does an outstanding job.. although Ian, please remember this before you reply to my email about the Tezro. :D

You can only use that monitor in certain conditions, MLA from a DVi or 1600sw FPA(o2 / 320/540 etc), there are other options, I have a [fore....something] card for a Mac and there is another MLA type box out there also.
