I am unsure if the power switch has to keep a permanent feed, but sounds to me like the power button or something that it feeds.
If you hold the button in long enough do you get any output serial or screeen?

Shame, you don't live close old chap, I have plenty of stuff to test.

I don't think you're reading it right - I've never had a problem using my PayPal account and shipping to a different address.

Same here, I have multiple addresses linked to my paypal. Just in case I get something huge and have to be nice to the wife.

I thought I had done a hinv for this machine some years back. Can't find it and now it's had a V12 fitted. Apart from the CPU could go up a notch to 900MHz (which I couldn't see a need), this machine is pretty top notch now,V12, LTO tape, DM6 (Pointless so far) etc

I can't help, but are you requiring those books in particular to learn to use?

Reason I ask.. Inside SOFTIMAGE 3D by Anthony Rossano is a good book. Seems to be the recommended read and still easily available.

In fact, after spending several hours re-painting all the decking at the new house we moved to a few weeks ago, I'm about to crack open a beer myself now :)

Well, that's what I did, installed the V12 and then buggared off to the pub.

So, I didn't quite get as much done as I would have liked.. the beer did get in the way..

I did though fit 3 monitor stand, which is excellent all so easy to move and adjust and gives me ultimate desk space. It was though not easy to fit.

Then there was the reduction.. I decided Power 5, Fuel, 2 Octane 2's were enough. Rest have gone to work.

And then the swap from sVHS to DVcam player.. this was a disaster, everything toppled and some things got bent.. thankfully, nothing broke, although I'd have trouble returning the black magic Analog - SD convertor.

So next up is a new thread on the DM6 fitted in a FUEL.. and getting it to work (my goal) in discreet apps, but need to start with the dmedia source examples.

AND WHY ARE MY PICS UPSIDE DOWN FFS!!! :x

BTW what do you find works better in smoke than in flame?

Nothing at all really. In fact, originally when I started, all knew was the name SMOKE and therefore aimed my attentions at that. In an email exchange with Ian Mapleson, he made a point that most people start with FLAME, but I'd felt a bit put of by the interface. Anyway, I preserved on that note with FLAME and managed to produce a few decent edited (very simplistic) home-video to a semi production movie with clips, music etc and now I just really use FLAME. Obviously I'm a real amateur at this so do not really know what benefits one has over the other, but for my use, FLAME was my tool. It really was so easy.

Thought I would dig out the 3850 switch and get to work on configuring it. (Thanks Jan-Jap for previous discussions)
The goal.. (simple as possible to start with)
SUN T3 Connects to switch
Octane 1 connects to switch and gets given a partition or all the drives.
Octane 2 connects to switch and also gets given a partition or all the drives.

So far, Octane 1 and the switch are showing as connected on the switch (haven't got cables to connect Octane 2 yet - they are at work still).

So I am looking for a dummies guide if such a thing exists.

Port 0 is the T3 , port 4 is the Octane.
[Edit... There is a tool called EzeeSetup, but I have to update the firmware first from 4 to 5.x, which Jan-Jap did mention and I was trying to put off, but alas, I will have do that first.]

A little more investigation today...

All machines running 6.5.30F

Octane (a) has 2x QL2340 of which one is a PCi card, the other XIO. It also has a 1.4 XBOW

Octane (b) has 2 x AIC 1160revision 2 on an XIO card. It has a 1.3 XBOW..

The switch I have recognizes both the cards in Octane (a).

Octane (b) fails completely..

My question... taking into account, Octane (b) has a 1.3 XBOW and Octane (a) has a 1.4 XBOW, can I take the XIO card from Octane (a) and fit it to Octane (b) so that both have a single connection to the Switch? From another angle, is the XIO QL2340 compatible with XBO 1.3 ?

The alt is the card cage, but I don't as yet want that route.

Thanks..

I have two, I will send you for postage, unsure if they work though. Do you have a power supply? Think I have one.
[edit] I say they don't work, but when you press the function button, it displays perfectly the menu item.

i can't confirm either way because i never tried. i keep these archives to the essentials mostly so an emulator wouldn't qualify.

My r4400 250mhz have 6.2.... is a good idea upgrade to 6.5?

only, and that's a fat ONLY, if you need stuff that requires 6.5. otherwise it'd be a downgrade performance wise. in fact, depending on what you wanna do, i'd rather recommend to give 5.3 a try

foetz is spot on about performance, of course though it depends on what you do. I personally love 6.5.30 because it's so easy. I use a 200Mhz INDY R4400 with an ev1 as composite video in to pre view video coming in off an old camcorder and it works fine, but that's really all it does.

Duh.. I meant 6.5.22.. Heck I just meant 6.5.something.
