So, in the words of Martin [Broady..] "we're gonna need a bigger boat.. I mean Monitor" (or a scaler).

Copy-rite-protection?

OK possibly a newbie question related to the input on the VBOB..

Output (from PS3) @ 1080i and 1080p goes to the HD port (On VBOB).
Output (from PS3) @ 720p goes to the SD port (On VBOB).
Output (from PS3) @ 576p goes to the SD port (On VBOB).
Simple as that? [I'm doubting the answer will be a simple yes]

So, after a bit more testing, I have an input of CIRC601 625 (although nothing to show because I have no SD input source yet) but lights indicate input.

With the passing of each year.. it becomes clearer.

Would this be good (bit expensive but if it saves me hours each night than it may be worth it)

Or something similar..

I presume this will let me convert 'stuff' to SD/HD - By stuff I suppose, Analogue/VCR/RGB component/composite?

gocram, I don't think you realise, how much you have progressed me.

I'm on 720p input and things are looking much better. I understand now the importance of the Timing setting.

I have more controls and you can see the monitor is coping with 95% of the wide screen behind.

Could possibly do with bringing it down another notch, but 567p seems out of grasp at the moment. Don't mess with something that's nearly working!!

Thanks again gocram.

Has anyone got recommendations for an up/down video scaler.

I'm guessing I need something that converts to SD/HD from all the other types so that I can connect to VBOB.

I'm also guessing I may have to pay a bit for said item.

Thanks in advance.

It's the new logo, and yes I did (Live Output), it produces on the VBOB Console nothing @ any setting.. PAL 625, Pal 625 Square, NTSC etc, input though from the VBOB does produce the test signal (well it did until now, but then again, I'm cloning a disk on the controlling Octane, so it may not be initialized etc).

I know though it does output, as some strange combination last week or so produced a mini version of the o2's desktop.

The TV/Monitor is a bit of a rare one in that it's super super wide and designed to display a full computer display + TV at the same time. Maybe it's giving the wrong impression and I'll change it with the standard one I normally watch TV on for clarification.

But what I was saying, is that even with the stretch TV, at 720p you can see more of the Source image on the monitor?

I'm currently looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111589772575? ... EBIDX%3AIT on ebay

At this moment in time, I have to get myself back on earth.. I'm not worried about hi def super duper, what I'd like to do more is interact with VHS and other analogue type things, convert to SD and utilize the A/V2 on my o2 also. Finding something that goes Analogue to SD/HD is hard though, I have the gear to do the other way, but this is the missing link analogue!

The greatest thing though gocram at the moment, is the confidence that I can turn it all on, and know how to get picture on monitor / TV and record it.. before, Id' do something to get it working, then it would take a week to reproduce and then I'd not know what I did the next time lol.

So.. After 2 nights of xfsdump I produced a good drive that's bootable on the machine it was produced on (Octane 2) I was ready to insert into the 2 cheapo old Octanes I picked up some time back.

BUT.. When inserted into either of the two Octanes (1), they hang after boot up regardless of the combination of boards (IE: I've swapped them around).

The source IP30 is

Code: Select all

2 600 MHZ IP30 Processors
Heart ASIC: Revision F
CPU: MIPS R14000 Processor Chip Revision: 2.4
FPU: MIPS R14010 Floating Point Chip Revision: 0.0
Main memory size: 3584 Mbytes
Xbow ASIC: Revision 1.4
Instruction cache size: 32 Kbytes
Data cache size: 32 Kbytes
Secondary unified instruction/data cache size: 2 Mbytes

The older Octanes are (the ones I am trying to run the dumped drive on):
195 MHz, 1M 2nd Cache
195 MHz, 1M 2nd Cache

The Xbow could be causing an incompatibility issue, but I doubt the CPUs are.

Can you boot Octane 1 & 2 of the same image?

I have media, but unless I did a netboot, no way of connecting CD-ROM. I could easily transfer the required files, by mounting the drive in my working Octane2. I could even boot that drive, but would it let me install if I'm on newer technolodgy?

I'll try serial cable as well.

On SUN machines you could boot -r and configure new hardware, do we not have anything on IRIX like that?

Thanks for your time jp.

Boots ok, on serial, with no keyboard/mouse/monitor connected.

Just to recap, which I may not have made clear, it hung, seconds AFTER booting the OS, therefore we had already gone past the maintenance section.

I've set console=d but not able to login, also network isn't up. Think I'll try the second board.

I've started video editing and I'm planning on a you tube for 'really' beginners (like I am) when I buy final bits, but I can do 1080p & 720p currently. I think though gocram is the more knowledgeable one than I.

I've learnt from the ground up with the DMEDIA etc & SMOKE and could possibly save you the 3 months it took me to get this far (time was a factor though), just based on what I have learnt from experience.

Tomorrow, I should receive an MLA (purchased from Ian) & 1600sw (won ebay for £11.50 +£10 p&p).

I have been researching the issues associated with this setup, and have come to following.

Remove pins 6 & 7 on the DVI cable.
Place 1600x1024_60-1704TPPL-1056TLPF.vfo in /usr/gfx/ODYSSEY/vof/

And that's it????????????

I didn't test, I just pulled the pins, then spent an our getting it all to work.. AND IT DOES!!!

Nearly...

I haven't as yet tested with VBOB and I have a problem, in that, I think that vof is too wide, yet not in the same breath.

My Icons have gone on the right, yet they appear in fm, if I maximize maya, it extends past the right hand side, also the login screen is to the right.

It's definatly too wide, but does look very nice so far.

Has anyone any experience with working alongside these?

I currently have running a Dell 1900 which is fairly noisy (but I've got used to the consistent hum), An Octane2 which is noisy, an o2 less noisy. So I'm sort of use to having a fair bit of background noise, but I'd like the Dell to go, but not be replaced by something more noisy. I also have (which never get turned on) an IBM x[something] and a SOPHOS rack, both of which sound like a harrier jump jet all the time, which I would never want to work next to.

Thanks
