Heh - funny you should mention that; picked up another IMSAI yesterday. This one is an 8080 with the front panel LEDs and toggle switches - just like the one in WarGames :)

You are now the fourth member of this site that owns an 8080 that I know of.

Yeah, I don't think that either The Beer Store or the LCBOs would carry stuff like that.

I'm going to take a good guess that the battery in one of the dallas chips (one on the IO4 and I THINK one on the system controller) have gone south.
It should not be too hard to grind out the terminals for the battery and solder a CR2032 in its place.

If you need more info on what to do, read this.

I also see my persistance to photograph every part of my system has paid off for someone. :)

The hacking process physically disconnects the battery from the chip. Unless your soldering skills are not too good you should not have a new issue with the old battery killing the new battery.

Might at least be worth running FAH or something similar on it.

Also, I hope the Cube Logo on the front stays.

The installation of FSN on my Onyx goes fine until I type "make install" and at "Making sure you can write to/usr/local/bin" I get "error code 1 (BU21)" and it stops.
First off, I have signed in as root so there should not be any permission issues and because of that I am stumped.
I got it to work on my Indigo but not here.

nope, not yet. I didn't even know it came with Irix.

I have played pachinko myself but only at a garage sale. You just reminded me that next spring I have to see if he is selling it again and buy it (as well as a bucket with three dozen or so balls) off him for the $50 he is asking. It's addictively fun.

From what I have seen so far it's another dozen or so layers of gloss. I have a feeling it's just Vista with more visual appeal.

I wish we had something like that here. The best thing I seem to have near the university is a sushi shop and a Chinese buffet. Both are nice but after a while it does not appeal you as much any more.
This kettle and cup crap is starting to get tiring and a little costly. I need a real bowl of the stuff. (starts to drool)

I don't really have much to say myself other than it's interesting however knowing a bit about Japan it's an impressive compilation of images. I must say as they went almost everywhere or at least to the more tourist-focused locations.

Damn. It really makes me want to save up a few grand and go there for a while myself.

You'd need probably $10k to cover what they did, and probably at least a month. And either the ability to speak Japanese or a guide. You can't do 1/10th of what they did if you don't know at least some Japanese.

It's a sad truth. Oh well, I guess it is more of a dream vacation then. I'll put it on my mid-life "to do list". ;)

Is that before, in lieu of, or after the crisis?

Just before.

I have heard of going over to teach E nglish but I really don't think I'm that good at teaching other people how to speak it, let alone write it.

Did someone mention that bunch of threads on the VCForums?
Well, if I ever had the time to actually give this a try I might see what it does for a few of my systems like a Quadra 660AV which was out in the summer sunlight for three months. Man did it get yellow.

We still have a rather large database of system icon that someone made. Why don't we all mess around in a pixel editor and see what we can make?

EDIT: also, it looks like this for me and I never really cared.

What on earth is this? :P
It looks and sounds like Jackass for the Japanese audience. The wiki is even more insane (Here's the wiki) and they seem to crank out some pretty interesting material onto Youtube ranging to doing stuff in libraries to carrying people around for a day in 'coon suits.

Here's a good almost two hour long example.

Could someone please explain this a bit more in depth. It just looks absolutely ridiculous.

Aw man, you found one for free?
I have been wanting a quad G5 for ages!

Anyways, hopefully when the tantalum cap self-destructed it didn't take anything else with it. I saw it happen before with another system but that was also because a few shoddy caps let the surge pass through and kill the northbridge though that was a PC however I have seen badcaps in G5 macs before.

As I progress on completing my 9600, the next task is getting my Avid cards working.
I have an Avid TrueVision video I/O card as well as the additional JPEG PCI board and the ribbon cable that connects the two together.
while I can get the VGA output on the TrueVision board to work no problem, the system does not see the other video I/O (IE. no video input) nor does it detect the JPEG card. This probably means I need a driver for both cards however so far I have not found much.
I'm not the only one who is also looking for the drivers. Another one of my friends also picked up an Avid-Ready 9600 and of course, neither had a hard drive so we could not extract the extensions/INITs and use them on our system.

The best information I can get from the card is "PCI Mandrill 0030-00167-0" which googling does not bring up much.

Hmm. These sytems obviously didn't come with breakout boxes but we did source some breakout cables though my cable is in a workshop in Vancouver right now :/.
If it helps, I'll go and completely dismantle both cards. Just tell me and I'll pull the cards out again.
