The collected works of pentium - Page 6

Thanks Quicksilver. It's still weird that it won't burn right. Are you able to amke toast images I know I can mount those directly.

You have a weird taste in style considering both cases are missing their fronts.
I'm also betting you money that there is no way you can fit an ATX PSU into that thing.

In the group of people I know here in town and in Vancouver, I'm the only one who has not been to japan in at least one part of their life.
It makes me feel left out of the loop.

Okay, I'll give that a burn and see if that works any better.

Edit: Someone needs to if this latest image works and how they burned it as once again I'm given a disc that nothing wants to mount.

I find it cool that Mainframe Entertainment got a part in that video. I always wondered why the feel to ReBoot changed midway through season 2 and I guess it was because they started transitioning over to PC's for all their work and their rendering.

Planets aligned and it appears that I got a round trip two week stay in Tokyo in mid-August with a few friends.
Okay, great. I always had a few places I wanted to visit in the area (mostly tourist stuff but there were other things like an all-nighter photographing in Odaiba and seeing if a Mos Burger beats a Modern Burger ) but I would of expected all that to take a week at most. What will I be able to do for the other week or so after I strike everything off my To-Do list? I can't just spend the whole time watching TV or getting lost in the Tokyo transit system.

I have the exact same card and I successfully flashed it by tossing it into a PCI slot in an old Compaq laptop dock.
It was weird though. I put it in my B&W G3 and it was really weird under 9.2.2 (sometimes it worked, other times it didn't) and useless under 10.2 (black and white with horizontal bars but it was showing a picture).

I don't know of any home weather stations made in the last ten years that didn't use USB for it's interface. That generally then strikes out almost anything older than the VW line of systems as they don't have USB support. I got a complete weather station here that completely useless with this awesome software simply because it's USB. :(

Okay, so I guess I can take a trip out to the more rural areas and see what it's like so I'll search some places up.
Than again, how "rural" can you get in the Tokyo area? I have several chores I gotta do up in Hikarigaoka but even that still seems like a suburb.

So I bought this Etak ET-GPS1 PCMCIA GPS adapter for my laptop and of course, no driver was included so all I had was google.
A bit of searching found a hint that if I installed the card as a 9600 baud serial port and set the protocol switch to NMEA it would still work well enough for Streets and Trips to get a fix on my position.
Needless to say, something is not right.

No matter how long I let the GPS take a fix on its position, I'm locked directly on that location and either this is because of my attempt to work without a driver or the GPS itself is stuck here. I have no idea how to determine what's the culprit.

To try and get this thread back on topic, I got a bit more information out of my japanese contact.
It appears that for the said two weeks I'll be living at a place in Chiba which unless this map lies to me is opposite the bay to the airport and quiate a ways from a bunch of my places to go. On the flip side it appears that I can still get to all the palces I wanted to go as there is a arterial train which passes through chiba and heads right into the city core.
Short of what google says, what else is in Chiba?

Lots of very very friendly guys with tattoos all over and a handful of nervous (frightened?) and extremely pissed looking cops with machine guns. A bit of heavy industry also. It might have been a bit of a purple haze but it might also have some pretty hard core nightlife too. I wasn't always sure where I had been, what prefecture I woke up in or what her name was the next morning.

Don't worry, you'll have a super-fun-happy time. ;) even if initially you don't want to.. ;)

That's not very encouraging. :?

Here's another additional issue.
I realized that a few AD adapters I own don't openly say they were certified to work in the 100V, 50hz wilderness of the japanese electrical system. I take it they will probably have some sort of issue when I get over there or will they just run a little warmer than normal?

I'm making it a rule that all my electronice I bring along will be small (laptop, cameras, etc.) and none of it requires a three prong power cable. If anything I might need a depolarizer then as the last I heard japan didn't have polarized outlets (one blade of the plug is fatter than the other). If that is no longer the case however, I should be fine then.

Nope. My Picturebook or its AC adapter does not have the power to charge any of my other devices.
Or get a short (<1 M) line with an unpolarized C7 connector, they will fit into both polarized and unpolarized c8 and c2 connectors, which should take care of all your charging needs.

That should do if need be.
Or buy the latest in japanese gadgetry while on vacation, then you wouldn't have to worry about it working until you get home.

Already on my list is to go see what's in Akihabara. ;)

Ugh....
Direction change. I won't be living in a location in Chiba after all. Instead I'm across the bay and a ways inland and over in Machida.
You can blame the correction on my friend who is helping make the arrangements. I blame sleep deprevation.

Anyways, we get the poit on whe where, when and what and I now got enough stuff compiled onto a list to keep me busy.

If you are referring to that one photograph where I am checking the voltage of a dallas chip on an IO4 I never really removed the dallas chip from the system. I simply shined a bright light against the side of the chip, looking for the two spots on the chip that's missing pins. and then very carefully used a dremel to clear away the plastic and resin that covered the bettery leads.
The other dallas chips seen in those photographs were all from socketed PS/2 systems but are essentially the same.

I got a free Asus MyPal A632N from jax184 a few weeks ago and only today got a charging cable for it however after I powered it on I discovered that it had chinese firmware and everything was in chinese. The only way to get it into english is to replace the firmware and it seems the firmware can be easily located here and here however:
1 - It staes that I should not try reflashing with a different language firmware (I don't know if it will brick it or they just don't want you to do it)
2 - Supposedly the system will not allow you to even try and install a different language firmware.

Supposedly you can patch the firmware or something but this is all to new to me, this patcher won't even work witht he latest (V30723) firmware) and I would rather get information on this before I try reflashing and bricking a perfectly good PDA with a built-in GPS.

It looks okay but the output is obviously fixed. I'm sitting here at my computer inside the house and it's not possible for this to get a satellite signal.

I left it out for two hours and that was enough for it to dump the stale satellite data and reload everything. It now sees me in the correct location.

Edit: Yep. It's working perfectly now.

so far the closest I got to finding more info was here but most of the posts were "thanks for the info" or "help me! I bricked my PDA!"

So the last time I had a working iPod was back in 2007. Since then I have been juggling between several dying fourth, second, and first gen ipods until last week I finally got another good fourth gen to load my music on to.
The problem I have however is that itunes does not want to sync the palylists I have with my iPod which sucks as then I have to more selectively go through over 3000 songs and play what I want or actually look for the tuning tracks for my iTrip.
Either I'm missing a setting or Something else is skewy. Any ideas?

Hmm, I was never prompted to authorize my ipod now that I recall but I don't remember if it did for my 512mb shuffle.
There is an option to "deauthorize audible account" but I don't know what that does.

Figured it out.
Turns out that I have more music than I have space on my iPod and because of that when you restore the ipod it tries to sync everything, not just checked music and when it realizes it can't sync it all it will only download a list of the most played music, sans playlists.
To fix it I restored again and when prompted to name my iPod I also checked the option to manually manage music so it would not sync immediately. After Ia pplied these settings I then unchecked manual mode, checked "sync only checked songs" (I deselected all of my Tnagerine Dream which easily ate up about three gigs of space) and applied the settings. Now it's syncing and it also synced up my playlists.
