ah! those early synth sounds, do you remember when kids would pop, lock and break-dance to ymo's tunes?

if you want an acoustic soirée tropicale, check out his collaboration with the morelenbaums neko. bossa-nuova gone spooky :)
well, well, looks like there's an appetite for a reunion lately.

nice to see you foetz, hope joerg and the rest of the north-european nekochaners are doing fine :)

keep it going pete, we luvs ya
what chc said, cheeck-to-cheek w/ colours in the sky :)

we got drinks, cake, and firewerks, a bassline and some drumming and we'd be all set (sky's hammond & syb's guard's drums could groove some)

happy 10 y'all
yay & double drinks for the tardisters :)

where's dieguito?
nice linky mark

sort of a calibrator for the tiny displays. is this all software that funks the LUT of the iphone according to daytime? does it get any readings from the iphone's sensors?

the health-wise info on their site is known and relevant, part of the arduous path of working with displays is the overload of the optic nerve and the assorted issues that it brings. sleep disorder is one of them. kids going epileptic due to video-game overdose is another.
^ nice ride, muddy waters :)

I wonder if you don't achieve the same thing just by turning down the brightness ?

would help with extra headaches coming from your iris slowly burning out (most default brightness settings are set too high for any kind of use longer than an hour)

f.lux deals with colour temperature according to normal brain<->eye adjustment cycles and as syb+rec report takes the extra bluish tints out of the way.

Also, over time I've gone away from the flashy busy desktops to the plainest setup I can get, and the eyes are much happier.

we used to have a quick rule of thumb about desktops when recruiting graduate kids. a quick look on a desktop goes a long way, but that's a story in itself :)

are slightly blurry shapes easier on the eyes than knife edges that never occur in nature ?

absolument monsieur. blur/ry is being used out of context these days, some (kind of) blur is essential for proportions, depth and assorted basics.
hell yeah

marketing post is vacant? sign me up man, gonna tell laura to iron mo' monkey suit

round of shots on me for the saint-exupéry appreciators :)
hooray! now just wait for hamei to design a divco replacement so we can finally have a decent road-movie all on wheels

i like the windows, i could set up multiple cameras and then worry about the shakes :)

how's your neighbourhood kids?

did you give up the music-box for the eye-box sky?

hope you're having fun with both, sweet setup, looks spacious :)

quite a few nekochanners have a thing for wood and i like it
just five is always a hard choice, it's summer and i'm working crazy hours. mix a drink for us mister oskar :)

-Proust, À la recherche du temps perdu (In search of lost time)
-Kafka, Amerika / Der Verschollene (Amerika or The man who disappeared)
-Mayakovsky, A Cloud in Trousers (together with Lissitzky's art for mayakovsky's work)
-Camus, Le premier homme (The first man)
-Musil, Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften (The man without qualities)

swoo-eet, one of my few rules when choosing a place to be based. nyc used to be like that. i've recently (re)discovered that the mediterranean part of the world still stays alive 24h a day :)

let the boy walk around vish, all this couch+delivery bulltits ruined everything in the western(ized) world

@jimmer, true, tho london is no better at this time. it was always neurotic. for the past decade, it's been nothing but a surveillance cage. i've (practically) given both up as a base, i only visit when i have to. berlin is still kinda nice but it'll likely get "sanitized" soon. head off to mother afrikah.
yay! cool! awesome! killer app! best software evah!

palm trees in amsterdam, flying unicorns in parthenon and fluorescent monsters burping fire over the colosseum

all this tasteless shit (more than common a few years back) was considered an "industry" (gee-ef-ex, vee-ef-ex and a barber named peewee) and sparkled an apragmatism beyond local repair (both socially and economically).

no, your eyes are fine h. :)

I never found any place worth of even considering moving there permanently.

it's on my shortlist, been there a lot of times but only for work. must find some time to walk/tour around africa on vacations.

didn't know you've been to nyu too, i still visit and occasionally teach @ tisch. great city ruined by zombies wearing zerious suits, london's way worse btw.

i like your cozy village, makes me feel like being inside a fairytale. i always liked walking around vienna, although it feels a bit too quiet for my base, time will tell. a propos how's vienna doing in the current european mess oskar? give us a shot of your view and a briefing if you can.

Hakimoto wrote: But "free" email? Please...

so true,

thanks to friends/colleagues in academic circles i owned an email account when all of my e-contacts comprised of people i could call on, on a cool sunday. then i registered with a few webmail providers left and right to help my wild location swings. most of them were shutdown/acquired by yoohoo/googoo

can't even remember when or where i was at the time that made me register w/ lavabit , but i just found out that they violently pulled the plug:

Lavabit founder: 'My own tax dollars are being used to spy on me' , Lavabit Encrypted Email Service Shuts Down, Can’t Say Why .
weekeee - wiki it!

this would have saved us a lot of headaches few years ago, thanks lou
now that you mention it mark, i never had major headaches with it. been using it since its infancy (iTools, part of MacOS 9)
you could give us your favourite song :)

iirc it was a username+password thing. neko might had issues with kids spamming around hence the word limit.

never mind, i'm bookmarking this thread and i'll wikify it

update: done
chc, would SimplyBurns work for the whole process or just for the burning of the images?

it's been ages since i tried this but iirc any disc-burning software able to produce a 1:1 copy would work for duplicating irix CDs (under any other OS)
roger, will update

if there's anything peculiar/app-specific about it, please follow up either here or over @the wiki
@trippy: is that a 7inch vinyl and a turntable young man?
welcome aboard trippy

Trippynet wrote: It's a turntable (I've got a nice collection of modern and old vinyls).

quite a taste for a youngin', give us a groove sometime :)

Trippynet wrote: The supposed 7" vinyl you see is actually from a set of about 4" coffee coasters designed to look like vinyls (not playable unfortunately).

on second look it passed for one of those "skinned" cd blanks with an identity crisis

(btw speaking of photos, there's a nice set of BBcode dressed as the "Img" button (in the toolbar above the message body, every time you post here) that turns your posted images into a fixed-size thumbnail so that members with all kinds of displays can read the thread without scrolling left and right forever. the board's attachment feature does the same)

Trippynet wrote: O2 wise, I've been having a few problems getting Sharity 3 to work (might have to discuss it on their forums) before it can become a proper music/web/play machine.

worry not, this is the place. i must be the only person here who experienced all aspects of an o2's caprice and at the same time had no clue what it takes to manage/keep an sgi running (i used to work on them since their heyday but an army of others was responsible for keeping 'em in top shape)
@neko/smj/regan and the rest of the wiki veterans:

- is there a way to have a "hidden/test" page, say like the Layout Test to avoid concurrent editing? not exactly hidden but the {{inuse}} tag brings out an alert

-do the "stubs", "wanted", "lonely" & "dead end" lists get updated automatically? funny, when i click on stubs today i get nothing (it was full of red links yesterday)

@all the young dudes, carrying the news:

-no excuses kids, here's the basics: Editing the Nekochan Wiki , please come help us :)

-we now have a very sleek and tidy "To Do" list, dressed as the middle grayish box on the left side of the front page:

thanks smj,

thought it was part of the standard wiki code setup, need to do some more reading about wiki templates
mea culpa, thought it was part of your degree/major

and that's mint indigo, i guess it's ready for the museum after its last bath :)
waiting for that single someone to just appear with a theme ready is like waiting for hades to buy you a cold one. how about a kickstart?

willing to help, no clue about phpBB code, no sgi/wacom around me here but we'll manage somehow.

start serving proposed images until we reach a nice set to make up a theme. there are many wacomistas here, fellow duckling from scandinavia could start with a panorama of his collection or whatever got him into the sgi:land.

Nuke wrote: Some of us don't adapt to change very well.

change is good most of the times, keeps yo fresh. you can stick to the "old" theme but what happened to this place?

when i hoped on board, an acquisition of an indy/o2 by any member would bring smiles, a hinv thread and congratulations. re-installing irix was conceived as scary voodoo but we tackled that as time went by. heartbrakes and wars with loony rezellerz.

all/most sgi stuff ended to you as collectors/members of this board and all we get lately is pretentious busyness and some pathetic cameos by zero-lifers with a font-formatting addiction. hurrah! so you got a bunch of usernames and have a whole thread discussing with yourselves! cookies are in the green jar.

on second thought, here's a nifty suggestion number 2: pete pulls the plug for a week and gives everyone a weekly diet.
rockers, start your engines!

we've got the disco devil dressed as the disco rebel :)
guardian452 wrote: Is this a good idea? How do home built games stack up to just buying a real one? The design is solid and I can pilfer the sound, gameplay, and graphics right from the app. Maybe cheating, but I'm not a very creative person on my own.

go on, work that wood and give us some drumming. do create some drum loops to go with it, sample the wife for bonus points or for losing the ball

chc, you need a third one man, one with a dolly parton kind of thing maybe?
rockers,

a very good friend is having an exhibition soon, part of the gig is a bonus track. she wants to distribute it via a (somehow unique) password that will be printed on the invitation (paper).

the password+link should expire after the download link is provided or after the download is complete (one off). think of it as a special treat for attendees only.

googling around i see hosts like mediafire/megaupload etc but no way to issue say 1k of passwords (to be printed on the invitation) beforehand in order to control the downloads.

who should i talk to? does this come with its own jargon term? how should i ask/search for it?
you're the man now robespierre

looking around some more i’ve found cardincluded . she doesn’t want a separate card/sticker/piece of paper and they’re the only ones that host and provide the codes on a .csv file (she can have the whole sea of codes printed on the invitation). we’re a wild bunch and want to design, cut & sew everything on our own. after a couple of emails back+forth, they sound like nice guys and this is what i’ll suggest to her.

thank you :)
just when i was thinking of asking the ‘channers about those embedded, mini-whatever you call them kits (like the raspberry pi, bandana-split or doo-wap-de-l’arte). not sure if they count as post pc though.

guardian452 wrote: Is anybody else here living in a "post-PC" world? PeeCees have never been better and I can't shake the feeling that... nobody cares

moi? i'm probably the one to blame for starting such discussions here. they all suck, they all steal your time, fifty trillion gigaflops on your smartphone and they still fuck up when you need them. fucking pop-sci-fi of the 80s

we’ve had a similar discussion back when i was testing hallucinating on carrying an iPad only, iirc sky was testing them too and kept them as synths in his studio. i ended up ditching them as a sole daily thing to carry around. they’re ok for doing the couch potato but typing a lot on these things makes you look like volunteering for a handicap you’ve never had.

the air was great for me (gotta love its weight) but its fixed ram made me sell it (couldn’t run aperture/fcp/something else properly) and for the last 3 years this old macbook cuts everything i do. i maxed-out the ram to 16gigs, replaced the stock hd w/ an ssd and that was it.

guardian452 wrote: I've started reading books again...Once in a great while I will buy/borrow a paper book if I find something interesting. Or art/picture books.

oh and kinda delayed but, happy new year guys!
