The jake page says it just needs Java 1.4 or greater - we have 1.4.1 on IRIX so I'd think it would be doable now ...

Hmmm, going to have to bring the quake 2 discs by the office and try this out. I forgot what exactly the problem was last time that had prevented me from playing :?
If someone asks a bad question, respond with this link. Simple as that.

Indeed, your vet should be able to let you know if your cat would have any complications with the medication, etc. Best to ask the experts.
I ran into this problem before, fixed it by downloading and installing the glib from beta. Guess there is more than one way to fix it :P
We need some things first, such as version of irix.

Also, what are the exact errors that you are getting, verbatim.
I think I shall sacrifice some peecee's today in honor of this glorius occasion. :D
nekonoko wrote: I had three pints of Boddington's last night as my celebration ;)

Well, I did get drunk while playing d&d last night (mmmm, cognac) but alas I did not find out about the forum birthday party until this morning when I stumbled into work with a hangover. :P

I managed to seperate the flash device from a disposable camera in junior high. Gave it to a friend in shop class, he literally shit his pants when he shorted a capacitor with his bare hand.

Hey r-ten-k! a capacitor is exactly like a transistor, amirite?!?! :P

The two are not easily compared.

Quoted for truth.
So when you boot the Octane you get absolutely no video what so ever? Can you put this system in single user mode with the v6?

<cough> It ain't easy when you've got to guess at *both* the question and answer.

Long shot, but if the "other crazy video card" wasn't a VPro series, *and* IRIX was loaded when the "other" graphics adapter was installed, you'll probably need to install the VPro software bits before the V6 will work.

Thats what I was getting at :P
starfoxacefox wrote: Well I try it in both my octane and guy I got it on ebay show it was working on prom which should have boot to a graphic prom. The MXE work fine in there, there was no OS on there.. Hmm any ideas.. me lost just going to by vpro or other mxe..

Do you have any other graphics cards installed when you place th v6 into slot A?

No OS installed on the octane, right?

Have you tried cleaning and re-seating the system?

Any lights turn on when you power it up? does it make any noise?

Making grown men cry.
Why do I never notice this stuff when I am in front of an IRIX box? :P

Thanks jimmer, been trying to compile many post it style FOSS stuff for a long time, glad we have something that may make it into nekoware.
Thats pretty cool. I like the concept.

nekonoko wrote:
So the entire thing falls apart if you switch to another compiler.

So true, but I would imagine most production linux systems (what TFA was talking aboot) would only have gcc.
Played a lot of MtG in 7th grade, havent touched them since. Didnt know much about them back then, or now. As a matter of fact, I was devious enough to never have payed for any of my cards... I still have all of them too.

Now I just play pen and paper rpg's. Beer and pretzel games mostly :D
Ok, ok, I just started watching Inuyasha because my fiance, sister, and everybody else I know who is into pen and paper D&D has pretty much demanded that I watch it.

I must say, I am on the third season and I am impressed. Very impressed.

Action, humor, fantasy.... and demons. Sweet.

Alright, back to work!
I just got finished updating my nvidia drivers today, I should be signing up tomorrow.
thegoldbug wrote: A friend finally talked me into play Guild Wars over the holidays. Yea, it's not WOW but there is no monthly fee.

I still like GW. I should reinstall one day and log back in. I wonder if I can sell my gold...
Schleusel, the kanera.net vpro modes directory is awesome. The Acer1916W also works perfectly with the Acer AL1716W.

Thanks!
Lupin_the_3rd wrote: I had an 8-port gigabit switch with a noisy fan. I ended up opening the switch chassis, and used some thermal epoxy to attach a long heatsink across all 8 of the chips. Then drilled some holes in the case top for ventilation and removed the noisy little fan altogether. Now it's silent!

That was 3 years ago, it's been running 24/7 ever since. ;)

I did something similar with a 24 port 3com. I had ordered a Thermaltake CL-P0200 80mm from Newegg, and they sent me one case instead of one unit. 6 for the price of one.

I measured out 2 holes right above the psu (which the other fans had been adjacent to, except on the side) and dremel'd them out. I removed the fans from their heatsink, and mounted them on the 3com. According to the infrared thermometer that my mechanic buddy lets me borrow, the psu heatsink is about 4-6 degree's cooler while the rest of the box is about 6-8 degree's cooler under medium load. It has run flawlessly for about 2 1/2 years now.

Very quiet, very cool.
sbget wrote: Howdy All,

I remember people running Linux on Indy systems in the past. I was wondering if any was able to get Linux working on an Octane? If you were, how difficult was it?

Thank you

Steve

Last time I tried, all it had was a busybox console. No support for just about everything. I would describe the endeavor as difficult and pointless.

IRIX works fine though.

Passive aggressive post of the month award goes to you.

tillin9 wrote: Impact based cards have some degree of X acceleration. The VPro cards don't, however.

So, works better on low end Octanes? I did not know that.

tillin9 wrote: ...That means Radeon X1550s (or whatever's the best PC PCI video card with Linux drivers around) for our SGIs. I'm fairly sure an X1550 is better than a V12 for the vast majority of video tasks.

Have you tried that yet? sounds interesting. If it truly works as well as you claim, it could be worth the switch later.

tillin9 wrote: Anyway... the point is that Linux support for SGIs is being worked on and will get better as time goes on.

It has and will, I never said it wouldn't. Don't read between my lines, I am neither subtle or wise. ;)
Code:
ancalagon 11% /usr/nekoware/games/supertuxkart
95774:/usr/nekoware/games/supertuxkart: rld: Fatal Error: Cannot Successfully map soname 'libopenal.so.0' under any of the filenames /usr/nekoware/lib/libopenal.so.0:/usr/lib32/libopenal.so.0:/usr/lib32/internal/libopenal.so.0:/lib32/libopenal.so.0:/opt/lib32/libopenal.so.0:

It let me install supertuxkart without telling me about openal, so I went and installed openal from nekoware.

Code:
ancalagon 12% /usr/nekoware/games/supertuxkart
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

And now this happens.

I guess it is just me then...

I am uninstalling it now, I will try again with the next release. :?
very cool... I got to check this out when I get some time with the vm server.

Want to get rid of that ancient, low end u10? Wife want it out of the house?

I can recompense you for the shipping and alleviate the emotional pain of trashing old computers.

Basically I want to play with a u10, it was the first UNIX system I got to use. I want to relive the memories. I cant pay much and they aren't worth much... but I would rather save one from a fellow channer instead of feeding the beast (ebay).

Put me down for one of those, too. It would be a nice step up from my U5. If local, I'll happily drive over and pick it up from you.

Seriously. The u10's cost almost nothing, but the prices people charge for shipping on ebay is weak.

If I still lived in Fremont I could probably pick a dozen out of the garbage. :P
Nice!

We once had a online version of something similar, it went down and never came back. I think I might want to reverse engineer your script and re-write it in perl, if you dont mind. :)
ShadeOfBlue wrote: Sure, go ahead. :)

This is an excellent exercise in patience and perl scripting. I haven't done anything with perl in about a year and I figured this would make a great project. Well, it would if it didnt require me to learn tcsh scripting! :P I have about a fourth of the script complete. Got the Big Book open to shell scripting and I am getting a face full of tcsh.

The bulk of this tcsh script serves as an excellent guide as to what my code should be trying to accomplish. I thank you for the well documented and easily read code.

Talk about a refresher course in perl, by jingo.

I am about half way done, but I am going to have to take a break from it until after October 3rd.

Moving to a new place in a better part of town. Moving when you have a young child is rather stressful. It is also a pain in the ass to pack everything you want and sell everything you don't. :P
I thought half the fun was trying to figure out where everybody is!
