wow, didn't know any SPARCbooks other than Tadpole/Naturetech ever existed.

If this package is installed, Thunderbird crashes with the following message:

Code: Select all

Once neko_sqlite3 is removed, Thunderbird functions normally again.
Unfortunately.

I thought I tried it with gcc. I'll check later.

Alright, one month since I got VW320. This is how it looks now:

Image

I'm still using cheap,I say "disposable", keyboard and mouse, but looks like i'm gonna get original VW keyboard soon. Windows 2000 appeared to be a better OS than I expected. After installing Microsoft Services for Unix I have a normal shell in Windows, a better POSIX compability and even GCC. But I miss mediarecorder, videoin and videoout from Irix. HackTv and Qcap are crap: slow and buggy. Also I missed red mouse pointers, but this was not a problem - I manged to create my own cursor set for Windows. It doesn't exactly match X11 cursor set, but If someone needs it, grab it here:

(link removed)

About the performance. While the Cobalt chipset is a little bit faster than MXE of my Octane(measured with Viewperf 7.0), dual R12k 360MHz still greatly outperform dual P-III 500MHz. On some tasks like rendering in Blender or raytracing with C-Ray Octane is nearly two times faster. Rendering in Maya is about the same, but I suspect this is just a result of a better optimisation for x86, because once my 3D scene needs fluid or rigid body simulations Octane is faster again. Although, web serfing seems to be more comfortable in Windows. At least Firefox doesn't crash.

Games played:

Quake 3 - runs fine. FPS is a little bit higher than on my Octane.
Half-Life - runs fine, with a decent FPS, but not in fullscreen.
Serious Sam - slow, after 20-30 secs of gameplay the systems reboots. Overheating?
Age of Empires II - runs great. No wonder - it's a 2D game.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - satisfying, FPS varies from low at outdoors locations to good at indoors. But all sounds are delayed by a second. Probably DirectX's fault?
:Octane2: :320:
This is my dream to get a good quad cpu Tezro or a dual cpu Ultra 45 and scrap my regular PC.
God, this new theme is so bad. Takes five times longer to load, the slowdown is clearly noticeable even on 3.2GHz Core i5, on an older machine like 360Mhz Octane(yes, not everyone here has dual 600) I have to "stop unresponsive script" over and over again. And who needs that crappy mobile version? Don't fix what's not broken.

Looking for a hard drive sled for Octane. Located in St.Petersburg, Russia.
TeamBlackFox wrote: $60

Thanks, but I can get a harddrive+sled assembly for that price from ebay right now.

looking for a better offer.
What are "proxies" exactly? How do i use them?
Wow, this really makes a huge difference! Thanks alot!
Any interest in CosmoCode 1.0.2 for Irix?
I don't think I can give more than 15$ for a lousy piece of plastic.
ivelegacy wrote: to do what :D ?

To play Quake3, obviously.
duck wrote: You can always grab one off Ian

75 what? The pricing is absurd.

I don't have much knowledge in html or JavaScript, but could anyone point me at a potentially harmful scripts in the source code of the website I posted links to? I just want to know if I really need to change my image hoster or "that guy" is just a paranoid.

Yep, exactly what I thought.
Recently with a help from another forum member, I obtained a very nice Wacom tablet(Intuos, A4 sized). Now a friend of mine uses my Octane to practice in drawing on a tablet. Drawings are made in Alias StudioPaint 9.5.

Check PMs, man.
There is a whole bunch of demo programs written for SGIs. Why not to try them?

They appear on ebay from time to time. Or you can PM me.
looking for a front door for an Octane2(blue color). May have some scratches, but the model name must be undamaged. Also will consider buying a lightbar in a full working order(bulbs, not leds). Located in St.Petersburg, Russia.
Last weekend I traveled to Moscow(~700kms from my place) to get myself a very phat Octane2. This used to be a Smoke system at Mosfilm . Originally it was equipped with a PCI-cage, three FC cards and a Dmedia board(no cables or VBOB), but I removed them because: 1) I can't make use of them, 2) fastfan.

Cosmetic condition is fair(especially after car plastic polish treatment), but the front door is missing, I am looking to buy one.

Thanks, guys!

Alright, that DCD option appeared to be an useless piece of junk. The display mode is set to 72Hz, but my monitors actually don't do more than 30Hz. After five minutes my eyes feel like they're gonna bleed and the powerflip demo performs at 30FPS maximum(on a V12!) If someone wants it, I will willingly trade it for something useful, like a front door for my Octane2.
Shipping a VW keyboard(which is way bigger and heavier)from the Netherlands was 29€.
recondas wrote: there should be a number of alternative DCD-compatible display formats

Which ones of them are DCD-compatible?
recondas wrote: Don't load a 2@ format if you have only one monitor connected,

Thanks, but I think I'm not an imbecile. Of course I tested it with two different sets of monitors: two LCDs, then two CRTs. It doubles the working space, but cuts the performance by the same amount. Absolutely worthless and overrated piece of junk: typical SGI. Thankfully I already have a buyer.
ivelegacy wrote: And I have checked the shipping agency price list to ship from italy to Europe/Zone1-5: no less than 50 euro

Probably there is another shipping agency in Italy? I'm thinking of bidding on this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Metroid-N ... 3ab05bb97b
The item is located in Italy, shipping to my place is 15eur.

In Italia Paypal o pagamenti postali

SHIPPING AND HANDLING CHARGES/SPEDIZIONE

Shipped from italy !!

ITALIA : Spedisco con raccomandata a 9 euro

EUROPE: registered mail 15 euro
ivelegacy wrote: smaller package , you can't ship an Octane front panel with a small-parcel, buddy.

If you finally put your glasses on, buddy, you will see that SNES cartiridge in a box is about the same size as an Octane's front flap. Please, stop flooding my thread.
ivelegacy wrote: my friend has made me informed.

Your imaginary friend, I assume? If you offer people what they need instead of claiming they don't wan't to buy it and bla bla bla. Please, stop being annoying.
ManwelB wrote: I can still access disk2 and create directories. Weird thing is, after some further investigation I've found that the secondary hard disk isn't even powering on.

Looks like the HDD is dead while you access just its mount point at /disk2
I suspect the OP uses a Dual channel, not a real dual-head configuration. In dual channel mode there is one continuous desktop so the dialog windows appear in the middle of it - right where the desktop splits. Lame, Just another reason why I'm getting rid of my DCD.
Very cool. it's nice to have a MGRAS Octane since many cool demos, apps and expansion options are incompatible with later graphics.
With an Octane on my desk I'm not afraid of a cold russian winter anymore!
:Octane2: :320:
Very nice, thanks. It also has a surprisingly good help system.

You seem to have the same CD-ROM(Yamaha) as mine but in a different box. Does yours support software inject? (what happens if you enter "inject" in a shell prompt?)
:Octane2: :320:
Vladio wrote: Software inject not supported.

Same here. That's strange because this cdrom worked fine with my Octane1.
