Problems with Elite 3D

I got an Elite3D m6 framebuffer which works only with the daughterboard detached:

If the daughterboard is connected, the monitor powers on like it receives a signal, but the screen remains black. And it seems like the system just hangs- if I blind type "power-off", nothing happens.

Is there any way to diagnose the problem and what is the puprose of that daughterboard?

btw - cool new logo in the OBP:

I believe you could link these cards together, similar to some of the xvr cards

what's missing is the bracket with the two 9 pin ports. I still have mine , packed away in storage ..

If only someone could tell me what's the use of that bracket and the daughterboard itself?

The daughter board is what makes it an m6 as opposed to an m3. See
http://www.shrubbery.net/~heas/sun-feh- ... H_AFB.html

There are 3 geometry engines on the main board (m3), and 3 more on the daughter board (m6).
The connectors on the daughter board go to a bracket that has DE9 connectors and are labeled "serial port". I don't know what they were for, but one trade article says "the software driver functionality was never enabled."
Maybe it was intended to compete with SGI Discreet workstations that use serial ports to communicate with video decks. (one of the meanings of "VLAN".)

Your post doesn't entirely make sense, that has nothing to do with SGI nor Discreet, that's simply RS-422 VTR deck control (typically Sony BVW protocol) you're referring to.

This is why I feel almost no improvement over my old Creator3D.

I hate to be "that guy", but can you please warn people when you post a link to an .ru site? (save for a couple of well-known ones) Even if the site itself is OK, the local ad agencies they choose serve the occassional malvertizing treat.

Again, sorry to be that guy.
The OP is in RU so it only makes sense to use an .ru site... I had no problem seeing the pictures and the site works fine. Safari with js turned off, no flash, and adblock. These things also exist for the old fireboxes popular for irix. To do otherwise is a www death wish :P

The link is direct so you should be able to see it in your status bar before you click on it. Seems excessively nationalist to me, like the "let's block all of .cn" mentality that some people tend to.

I don't have much knowledge in html or JavaScript, but could anyone point me at a potentially harmful scripts in the source code of the website I posted links to? I just want to know if I really need to change my image hoster or "that guy" is just a paranoid.
I have no issues seeing the pictures even with a vanilla browser... It only makes sense for an RU user to use an RU site. ;) However, it is preferred that you upload the photos directly to nekochan.

People are silly. I got the same shtuff when I did our own mail - "It's from Chiiiina !! Hide the women and children, must be spam !"

And if we let vietnam fall to communism then thailand will be next, then the phillipines, then hawaii, then there will be slavering godless minions of evil hiding under our good amurrican beds, just waitng to rape our white women.

Sheesh.

Yep, exactly what I thought.

That makes a bit more sense, thanks.
For actually outputting to a VTR, it isn't enough to just have a rs422 port spitting out deck commands. The video output from the computer needs to be locked to the tape. So building the serial ports into the graphics card would be one way to achieve that.

(See the DiaQuest history at http://www.diaquest.com/AboutUs/history.html for more on SGI and VTRs)
