Nope I didn't get it.
But during the comming months I'll assemble my Origin2k/Onyx2 and there will probably be NUMA-cables over. I'd love to trade for a ktown/xtown pair.

It's good that you clarify. What I have is the CRAYlink cables that was originally used with the system.
I have a 550 with vr7. I look at it as a generic PC and run Ubuntu on it. My main use for it is to read/write SCSI disks. Recently I installed RT11 on a full height SCSI disk using simh on the 550 and moved that disk to a MicroPDP-11/73.
I haven't heard from the buyer. I was hoping he would show up here and tell us what ge got.
My workstation at $EMPLOYER, no UPS
At my previous workplace we had an old DELL running well over 600 days, no UPS.

That is the experience I've had with the UPS we ran at the computer club. More than once the UPS was to blame for downtime. (I suppose that a failing cooling system with fluctuating temperatures was not good for the batteries... but still)
Thats a seriously cool machine! I think you have to pop it open for us. That will tell you what CPU you have, I bet 286.
And, oooooh Larry. That game tought me english .. Nothing like sex to motivate a young boy

I like to look of the rack converted O2k. I have a spare CPU module and will get a rack with space to spare this weekend. A rack conversion kit would be nice.
I'm interested, don't have time to solder for anyone but myself. Can't program PROMS either
I'll just have to check that I have the right boards, I have a few spares. If they are the right kind I'd be willing to sell at a good price.

Very nice setup! I envy your soekris, mine blew up in a thunderstorm. And the "monitored" APC PDU is on the wish list as well.
I think you need a fan. But removing heat with just ventilation is hard. But I think you should try.

It was on a UPS, not sure what happened.
Another thing to consider is some makeshift sides on the rack to avoid recirculation. Think hot aisle/cold aisle.

Edit: oops jpstewart beat me to it.
"standard rackmount" is a lofty term. Make sure the stuff you have fits what you buy!

From the article:
Considering Octanes’ were torching buildings, handing out Octane shaped Zippos’ was considered to be VERY uncool by corporate marketing.
That made me chuckle. Has anyone seen one of those zippos? One or two must have survived the blaze?
Come on hamei. Give us some meat on the bone, why does it suck?
Are there any PeeCee emulators on IRIX good enough to run a late enough windows to use Microsoft office capable of docx?
You forgot your dual processor PDP-6 and octa-core prototype BeBox
I have an Intel Xserve. Fairly silent when idle at least, for a 1U machine.
The monitors are showing "substrate", a hack in Theodor Xscreensaver suite. Was that available for IRIX?
uh-oh, will hamei shut up to save nekochan, tune in next week for favourite ranter, or not!
Argh, I'm very sorry to hear that, you seemed to have a very nice thing going for you!
I sincerely hope this will be a controlled shut down and that other museums will get a chance first.
Otherwise, please please, send me your PDP-8/s (I'm serious)

Hi
Me, bjornl and Lars (unsure if he is a forum member) were close to putting in a bid for the system. We only wanted parts so we passed in hope that someone else would get it and use it.
Now that it doesn't seem to be that way we are still interested in parts. I want rack parts to complete my Onyx2 rack. The others wanted CPU boards and possibly whole modules. If the CPUs are fast and plenty enough I want that too.
The other to lives in Gothenburg and Malmö respectively. If you live nearby pickup shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks
Edit: Well if you want to get rid of them that is. Not sure what to do with them if you don't want to run them. You could easily scale the system down to something that draws less than a kilowatt if you want to play with IRIX. The system scales nicely all the way down to 2 CPUs. You can also try to sell the racks individually. There should be enough in there to make several complete systems.

what about the Ebay auction, was it an Indigo proven to have been used for Jurassic Park CGI, or was it "just like one..." ?

I have two stickers that I would put on my laptop if I had one. One reads "My other computer runs OpenVMS" and the other reads "My other computer is a CRAY"

the "my" in that line is a bit weird, it declares a new variable in the scope. Unsure what scope it is in though... it's been a looong time since I did perl.
Do you know what else uses the Mighty Mite?
Hint: It's big and orange:
Yup, that is my DECSYSTEM 2020
The connector layout is a little different, I suppose they were made to customer specs.

I'd by myself a nice new RC model plane with good FPV gear. That or a cheap as vintage motorcycle:
Hi
I have a bunch of various IRIX-related CDs and I'm deciding which to keep.
Among them are a rather big stack of CDs labled "Required/Recommended Patches" and "Fix on Fail patches" for IRIX 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4. Then there is a stack of "Freeware" CDs.
What I wonder if these CDs are cumulative like the 6.5.X overlays. In that case I could just keep a copy or two of the latest CDs in each stack.
Thanks,
Pontus.

Fabulous!
I've sorted out the dupes and extras and they are on their way to another forum-member.
(For the record, they are cumulative)

No love for the classics? They regularly go for 500 - 1500 bucks depending on condition.

Hi
I might be so lucky to get a Crimson. I'm terrified of damaging the skins. I've looked through the Challenge manual available on techpubs and looked at the Onyx Teardown at iFixit.
How does one remove the small "skirts" at the sides, is it just by pulling at them?
Should I even try, the locking mechanism looks potentially brittle. Will removing the skins risk doing more damage than I might cause by transporting them left on?
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

@pentium: What is your general feel for the red plastic, is it brittle like the Indigo2 or Onyx2?
