The collected works of Pontus - Page 2

Thanks for the answers. I read up on the links from recondas post and my problem was indeed the "junk" on the disk. By following the instructions on Ian's page allowed me to repartition the disk (just like sybfreq describes) and do an install (actually it is running right now)

I ran into a snag, I got the same error as in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15190

When I booted the 6.5.22 installation tools CD. I then switched to a 6.5 1998 June Install CD and it worked like a charm. I thought the Indigo2 with R4400 should be able to run 6.5.22? Do I need to boot a specific version of sash (i.e. not the one that ends in 64) for that to work ?

Hooray! Good work. I can verify that the 3130 is taller than the Onyx deskside at least. You can compare them on these pictures:

Thank you :D Me and my girlfriend worked hard to organize it and I made sure to take some pictures before it returned to its normal state of chaos :) . Well, it is not that chaotic but I have gotten some more stuff now that occupy the empty floorspace in the pictures.

A very impressive job of arranging! And I love the fisheye view from outside the window...

Can you tell me what it says on the DEC masthead next to the |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| logo? I can't quite make it out, almost looks like "gamma11" to me. Just curious.

Thank you. It is actually a fisheye view from the inside of the window :)

Yes, it says gamma11, it is a version of RT11 specialized for some kind of visual x-ray application. I also have the PDP-11/34 with UNIBUS graphics (O_O). I'm unsure if I have gamma11, I got a lot of disk packs with the system, but have been unable to read them as of yet.

And, again, thanks for the 3130 signature icon!

I just noted the same while reading up on the Tezro and VW. It would be neat to be able to choose layers.

Perhaps one should extract the data and learn to hack <canvas>

Er - and if there's a different thread elsewhere, I'll take my questions there. Or else I'll have to make another icon to bring this back on-topic...

I think it is called VTV or VMV and is a digital product. I'm unsure If I have all boards unfortunately.

The Vax 11/750 needs repairs and the power supply scares the bejesus out of me. The microvax has both ultrix and vms installed.

These vector images must have been made in some 3d-modelling software, as they could have been drawn much simpler in a 2d app and as such are not very suitable for editing.

For example if you look the picture below, you see that top of that Tezro case is made of 9 different shapes, when that same could have been achieved with only 3 shapes. And if you look at the bottom menu you see something like 8652 objects in the foreground. I believe it would take a superhuman effort to group all of those and put them to layers.

One method would be to put everything into a magnetic layer, and then use snaps to draw a simpler image on top of the old one.

I took a stab at the same image yesterday. I had no problem using Inkscape to separating the purple plastics into a layer of itself. Notice that all holes in the metal is a few shapes that need to be selected and moved.. those will take some time. Another approach that I might try is to edit the SVG as a textfile and group things by Z-order. It will take some trial and error but should be quicker.

I would do more, but I'm not sure what software should be used to view the result in a nice click-to-show-layer-x fashion.

If you need better I can take a photo of the one I have at home. I'm uncertain if there was an Elan badge as well, but I have not seen one.

Edit: there was a badge http://www.sgizone.net/badges/ but was it used in together with the door, that seems redundant.

Edit 2: Nope, Either the door marking or badge, depending on CPU option (3000 -> door, 4000 -> badge)

Yeah, I noticed this with the IRIS 3130 icon, and that's darker. But these cabinets were a pretty light cream color (before the sunlight got to 'em, anyway). I don't think an outline is going to look right. Any suggestions? Lots of gear that comes to mind is going to have the same issue...

Just fine, I'm working on restoring some Amiga 500 and an Indigo 2 right now so it is not getting much attention. But it will come in handy when I need to read some RA disk. I'm hoping to save some data from RA82 disk which I will have to throw away afterwards... they are just _huge_

I think it is all about the pricing. If I'm on a budget I could imagine buying a low-end CPU with the prospect of upgrading it when one of two things happens:

1) I get more money
2) The price of upgrading goes down (which I would expect it to do)

I'm currently considering upgrading my LGA775 CPU. The price/performance ratio is a bit high so it would be smarter to buy a newer motherboard, CPU and memory, but that's beyond my budget. Having the option of unlocking an extra core or the ability to overclock would be nice. I was very much on a budget when I bought the system so it fits the scenario I proposed above.

Does things branded d|i|g|i|t|a|l count or are we only talking about later DEC stuff?

I have (what I remember now)

DEC AXP 5000 (model 400 or 500)
AlphaStation 200
AlphaStation 255
AlphaStation XP900
AlphaServer DS10
AlphaServer ES45

EDIT: I see we are doing digital stuff as well:

PDP-8/e (with TU56, PC04)
PDP-11/23, 11/34, 11/44 (with RL01, RL02, RX02)
VAX-11/750 (with RA81, RA72)
MicroVAX 3300, 3500, 3800 (With R215f disk expansions)
Vaxstation 2000, 3100, 4000/vlc, 4000/90 (with storage expansions)
DECsystem5500
DECstation 5000/150, 5000/120

People seem to have quite a bit of gear, perhaps we should setup a DECchan :) (or just keep it here)

Edit: Ah, people also list terminals, I will too :)

Got this from a friend, a lovely music video with and Indy in lead role:

The nineties videos was the bomb :D A cheesier decade is hard to find.

I would think so too :) Their other videos seem to contain some 3D elements, likely from the Indy or similar.

Hi

This is absolutely awesome!

This is from the Norwegian Cooperative Nordic Simulator Center(NSC). They acquired the flight sim in 2007 (or so) and have been working on restoring it. It's _awesome_ that they have gotten this far. Imagine getting all that hardware going! It is three PDP-11 cooperating!

I found the Zip-drive somewhat anachronistic and amusing.

I wonder how the graphics is generated, it looks way better than what a PDP-11 could render.

I'm not affiliated, but I want to take a trip to norway now :D

The QBUS PDP-11 had pretty neat graphic options, both from DEC and third parties. The DEC one were raster graphics and where called VSV11. And I have a PDP-11/34 with a mysterious vector graphics called (I think) VMV something.

Definitely, I'll be more than happy do give you a tour of Updates premises and my own collection. December will be hectic for me, but we might squeeze something in. Or wait until next year.
