Hello all.

I'm in the process of making a little price list of SGI systems and parts. Eg what did a Indigo cost back in 1992? A skywiter, an Origin 2000, a FC XIO card, a 2m Craylink cable so on and so forth. When they were released into the market and say a few years later. Software too of course.

I know there is big diffrences when it comes to systems because of their inherent possibility of configuration, but if you know a price of THAT system or THAT part. Any price that came out of SGI or a reseller. I don't care as long it is a price of something. Just to see how ridiculously high the prices actually were.

It could be a bit of curious nostalgia that can reside in the wiki pages or something. I will put it together into a nice little document when there's enough data.

Important is year or full date, what part or system configuration and of course the price. It doesn't matter if the price is with or without VAT but should be specified if it's known. Also, currency doesn't matter, it's an easy task to convert anyway.

So keep it coming. Post here or PM me. Either way is fine.

Well, from the prices that I got from SGI sales during the period of 1992-1996 I would say that prices were pretty well in the ridicolous domain. Maybe not so much the systems themselves but upgrades and peripherals.
This, both compared to other visual workstation makers but also PC related hardware and software.

Of course, it could be that it was the case just in Sweden but I digress.

Nice catch. Hope you get the most out of it, too bad you can't run it on the Tezro or it would probably fly. :)

A little OT but what kind of Wacom pad are you using? I have wanted one for some time now but not gotten around to actually buying one.

I didn't get your question at first, but then I realized I took the pictures of the CD's on top of one of my tablets! :D
Anyway, that one in the pictures is my Wacom Intuos² A4 (in European paper size dimensions). Its interface is USB, I use it with my laptop (I also have a Bamboo that I take with me. I also have an old Intuos A6, which is sitting in a drawer somewhere, which has a serial interface. It's quite old (from ≈1998-1999), with a damaged overlay sheet (of all the usage, but it's too much trouble and expensive to replace), and — most importantly of all — I can't use it because I only have one power supply and I hooked it up to my Intuos² A3 , that I use with my Tezro .
Here are some pictures of my two main tablets, the aforementioned Intuos² A3 (with my Tezro ) and Intuos³ A4 (with my laptop).

Thanks for the info. Think I'll go for an Intous3 A5 or A6 as the A4 is quite expensive compared. Also form what I have read from several reviews the size isn't all that critical. More important to match the pad to the screen (aspect ratio) you're using.

Well, it's not a matter of low interest. Me and Bjornl are very eager to get these racks but there is the slight problem of bringing them home. As I've been up to lysator and brought home two O2k racks (with car and trailer) I know that it isn't a walk in the park. Also, it's a 700km roundtrip from where we live.

As it is cold and unfriendly right now it would be very nice if we could get the chance to get them when the weather has changed toward more spring-like.

So, the interest very much exists.

Some more info on Sonic Solutions.

They made some pretty nifty-top notch-super-turbo-laser-jet sound solutions back in the day. Frank Zappa used Sonic Solutions to remaster pretty much all his backlog of recordings up until he died, and he was a pretty picky customer to say the least. There is a whole chunk of information about SS in one of the interviews he did for some magazine. What hardware he ran it on was never mentioned but it could very well have been a SGI-machine although not an Octane since this was pre 1993.
Examining the card a little further there seems to be at least three DSP chips from Motorola. The same 56000 series IC's that were used in Iris Indigo, so it definitley handles audio of some sorts.

Well, my cents worth of nostalgia.
