Any modern SCSI hard drive will work in an Indigo2 with the proper adapter. The sky's the limit

You're right Nekonoko, as I have 15k 18gb hard drives in my Indigo 2 10000 Max Impacts. They are 80 pin models with the right adapters and mounted on the factory sleds looking like they came from the factory that way. If you use the 68 pin hard drives with an adapter, chances are the hard drive will stick out a little farther than the 80 pin ones do. You have to be careful that the hard drive and adapter don't short against each other (I have a piece of styrofoam sandwiched between them for extra protection).

I have done some modification on them and working on another at the moment. Richard
Insurance??? ...UPS....

Now that's a contradiction of terms

If he does get reimbursed I wonder what year it will be and if he will recover the full purchase price or NOTTTTTTT. There's an old saying....just a little bit older than me  that says: What goes around comes around" and another (that I live by) that says "Treat others as you would want to be treated)

FedEx is 100% better at paying an insurance claim in a timely manner or at all compared to UPS

I would much rather have FedEx over UPS any day

I wonder if UPS has changed their insurance payment policy (for the better) in the last few years??

Prejudiced....Me??

Yikes....enough to make me throw upppppppp

The ONLY and I mean ONLY thing that interested me in the slightest was that internal cd rom or burner

He explains using a needle nose pliers to remove and dissect plus how he smashed the original Octane mainboard in order to mount a.........a......a....... I can't even say celeron.......pukeing again

And by day he is a brain surgeon......or should I say sturgeon

Awesome sum][one

Hoping one day to be a lot smarter and be able to do something like you have done.

Hi James,

Don't know what your circumstances are for obtaining any locally (radio shack, Comp USA, Office Depot, Staples, etc) since many retailer just end up throwing them away after installing the components they were in.

If you are unable to find any anti-static bags large enough but have several medium size ones you can tape them together (on the outside with 2 inch tape) to give you the size you need. In a pinch I have had to do that several times for very large boards I have and seems to work out ok.

Yes, Looks like the demo is just for the PC ....... ATM ........even though it describes usage in the SGI line.......maybe the demo SGI link will be made available shortly

Sent you a PM Tom

Richard
are the TRAM modules the same for those video boards as for the MI in my Indigo2

No, the Trams and graphics boards are completely different between the Octane and Indigo2's

Richard
I have a couple of 320's running win2k pro with latest SP with 1 Gb of ram in each one......all the SGI patches/fixes installed.

It could be a MB problem with your 320 not being able to accept 1Gb of ram. If that is the case nothing short of a MB change can fix that.

You might try installing your OS with the memory you know already works. After the OS is up and running install just 512Mb in Bank A and see if your system will boot.....then go from there.

If you are not able to install the OS even with the lesser amount of memory w/o hanging..... problem could be in your disk. I had that problem and I was really pissed....it was an original retail box too!

Richard
TeoX....

The article I read (probably over a year ago) didn't give any mobo part numbers. It just mentioned that some VW 320 mobo's had problems running 1Gb of ram and if that was the problem the recommendation was to replace the mobo.

BTW.......I even had win2kpro running on a couple "hacked" 320 mobo's....006J and 006K.... if I remember correctly. My current two are running on the newer mobo's.

Richard[/quote]
TeoX

You could also do a complete install with 256 ram (since you stated there are no problems with that). After install is complete install all the SGI related software stuff......after that install all the win2k upgrades, patches and fixes. Then if win2k is working w/o any problems go ahead and swap out the memory.

Very often when there is a memory change the blue screen pops up informing you of memory issues. At that point you can continue booting into win2k. After shutdown and/or restarting the blue screen doesn't show again. The blue screen I refer to is the one that shows your system booting pass/fail checklist.......Not the critical error blue screen that says to contact a system administrator.

I have used various motherboards 006J, 006K, 007A, 007B and 117A. As for your motherboard sticker saying 007B and hardware inventory saying 006J....looks like it is a "hacked" 006J. You can confirm this by looking just to the left of slot the VRM slides into.....there is a 16 pin IC chip in U37 space .......and you will see a small wire that has been soldered on the left side of the chip. You will find the info here of what it looks like:

http://www.leupen.com/~remko/sgi/mobo_hack.htm

Hope this helps, Richard
Where are you at??

Connect only one of the cables from the card to the array not both

LOL, I think there were two lots of them...

correction: selling the 500 MHz version in singles now

eBay: RM7000B-500T

Looks like they're over in ALtamonte Springs ( a couple hours east of me)

What O2 mainboard would these be compatible with? IIRC I have an O2 400 R1200 and a 300 R5000 (not a R5200)

On another note:

I'm still interested in a 600 O2 now that I have been able to pick up a few other nice things lately.

Would like to get in line for one of ed's but don't have the required cpu to provide

Does anyone have info or download location for the Sun xvr-1200 graphics driver? Actually Sun had a Sun xvr-1200 graphics accelerator cd. I contacted Sun to find out about purchasing the cd but was told the xvr-1200 has already reached its End of Life and no cd's are available. I checked the Sun forums and I've been searching as often as possible since last week to no avail.

I'm putting together a Sunblade 2000 and trying to upgrade from the xvr-1000 to the xvr-1200 graphics card but cannot do so until I install the required drivers on that specific cd.

In keeping with the Forum rules, I'm not asking here for pirated or commercial software, but just a specific driver needed to run the xvr-1200 that has reached its End of Life.

Cheers, Richard

Thanks Hakim,

I have that link and it lists only for the xvr-500 and xvr-1000 (not the xvr-1200). But at least it's something I can go with ATM.

I'm not sure if I've found everything I need or not. Not sure if the required listed for 8 is the same as 10. Looks like 9 doesn't need the same req's as 8.5.

I have dl the following SUNWgfb.u; SUNWgfbw; SUNWgfbr; and SUNWgfbcf. No luck so far with SUNWgfbx.u though.

I'll have more time in the next couple of days to hopefully get it up and running and search more.

Richard

Hello, just joined this forum today. If you are still looking for the drivers for any of sun's graphics accelerators for sparc systems, they are here http://opensolaris.org/os/downloads/sparc_graphics/ Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks a bunch, I haven't done much with it since my original post ( I've been adding to my SGI gear), ........but it's still on my to do list.

Is anyone interested in getting an Octane V10 graphics board?

I've got a couple but have not tested them yet. I just finished installing one onto the XIO carrier and have to look for another VPro carrier. I know I have three more carriers here (somewhere) now if I can only lay my hands on them.

I haven't come up with a price yet so just bare with me for a few days until I get my shiiiiiit together. This coming week I'll be busy looking for the other XIO VPro carriers plus Sparcbook parts and information for another member here.

Richard

Just a quick update to all who posted here or PM'd me. I haven't gotten much done with the V10 boards as yet except to mount one last weekend on an XIO. I have not been able to look for the V6's and V8 I have boxed up but will do that this weekend, nor have I figured on a $$ as yet. I will run them overnight on a single 600 Octane with 8Gb of Ram.

Work has taken it's toll on me and I am in more pain than ever from my job and because of that, all I do when I get home is sit and relax or go to sleep early. Because of the increased intensity of pain that has been escalating I am quitting my job as of Nov 20th and will also retire and finally relax these tired ole bones. After about 6 months of this constantly increasing pain there was only one right answer for me. My first responsibility is to me and only me and my health.

If all goes as planned I should be able to find the other XIO I need for the lone V10. One member PM'd and said they didn't need an XIO but I need to mount it in the XIO in order to test it in an Octane.

I only have 2 V10's available and about 8 showed interest via posts or PM's. I'll consider the interested parties in the order they contacted me.

Richard

I've had one V10 running all day and will keep it running through the night. No problems with the V10 as yet.

I probably won't have the other V10 ready until next weekend.

I wanted to keep the cost reasonable and still not loose anything by selling them. Yet, what one person considers reasonable isn't necessarily what another person considers reasonable. As I know the most important thing to consider is the cost and not wanting to commit to buying something before a price is mentioned

Selling them for $200.00 each with shipping and insurance included to you in the US. I prefer selling within the US. As you all must know, shipping overseas does get costly. I think I sold either a V10 or V12 overseas (months ago) and the cost for air shipping was around $58.00.

I accept paypal and should be able to ship this one out the first of the week, for anyone who is interested. I only have 2 and if there is no interest at that price I'll probably put them on ebay with a reserve.

Richard

I'm still interested.

Hi,
Looks like there is an an ebay item in Belgium for sale (ends Dec 8th) I'd like to get, but the seller will not sell or ship to the US. Any Nekochan member in Belgium or Europe who would be able to bid on it for me and then resend it to me here in Florida?

Naturally I am unable to read some of the particulars about it as well as the cost. I can provide the link to anyone who contacts me and discuss the particulars with you.

Thanks, Richard
Image
Well Richtom1, what is the cost and the weight of your item

I had someone here ready to help but the bidding was a bit high and the shipping would have been too high as well for me to try and have someone bid for me.

I am finally getting all 5 of my Tadpole Talin laptops set up with operating systems and then a trip to eBay. And oh what a trip this is...... :?

Does anyone have the Tadpole Talin x86 drivers? Almost everyone of the files I downloaded directly from the ftp site are corrupt.

I have already set up a dual boot XP Pro/Open Solaris on one laptop and XP Pro/Sun Solaris on another (with Sun Office 3.0 and SDK). Both are running fine but I wanted to get all the specific drivers installed. Worst case scenario .... I could set up just one OS each laptop (which I will probably do for the other ones) : Ubuntu, Open Solaris and Sun Solaris....................OR................no OS and just format the hard drive so it will be ready for the new owner to install their own.

The two Tadpole Comets I have don't need an OS. I figured the Tadpole Talins would sell better if they had an OS on them. Yet another thought is maybe the buyer would want to install their own OS on them. Or, I could just sell them w/o an OS installed.

I have upgraded all with the max Ram of 2Gb. One is a P4 3.0 or 3.06 CPU and the other four are P4 2.4 CPU's and larger capacity hard drives than originally came with them.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers, Richard

After this I'll tackle my Sparcbooks and get them ready............If I don't collapse from this episode

If you went from a MGRAS graphics system to a VPro graphics there is a good chance it won't boot because the original IRIX install was for MGRAS graphics and not VPro. I have some hard drives that will work with either MGRAS or VPro graphics board installed so I can swap out at will.

If original install was for a MGRAS equipped graphics board and later updated to a VPro graphics then your system should boot w/o any problems with either a MGRAS or VPro board installed.

The 887 mainboard max is 2 Gb of Ram whereas the 1467 mainboard will take 8Gb of Ram. Most of my Octanes run with 8Gb or Ram and I say most because I still keep an eye out for 1Gb sticks. The Ram is sometimes hard to obtain at a reasonable cost.

Although the PROM may be the problem I would first verify the graphics board installed.

Well I finally scored a couple power supplies for my ZX10 plus some RAM. My ZX10 is running strong with 4GB of RAM now but I'll be putting it on the back burner for a while and use it sparingly.

Anyone looking for RAM for their ZX10? This is the pc133 ram and NOT the pc100 ram. I am in the process of testing an assortment sizes out, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb and 1gb sticks. Usually very hard to come by but I have several. I have not set a price as yet. If anyone is interested let me know.
