Octane2 w/ dual v12 DCD ...

I just purchased:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0508982645

and the seller has the specs as dual-v12-DCD, including the special card carrier that is required for that.

Can anyone look at the rear-facing pic he has there and confirm that for me ? I've never seen that config in real life...

I see two DVI ports at the top of the V12 and two at the bottom, this should confirm the specification.

$1550 is a fair chunk of change to drop on something like that...but then I should look at what I've spent...

Enjoy it.

Yes that looks like dual V12, you can run four monitors with it :) You can see another one here:

thanks! Looking forward to connecting it to a video wall...
Yup that's the ONE !! Speaking from experience with the dual 600's and 8Gb of RAM it does ROCK You will love it. Glad to see another member with this Octane configuration.

Sure looks like it to me. It could conceivably be dual V6/8/10+DCD, but any of those would be extremely weird, so it's most likely you have the good stuff. Enjoy!
That's an extremely good price for such a config. In the commercial world, a single DCD can sell for that much, never mind
two of them, with two V12s, in a max-spec complete system. Congrats!! 8)

commercial world, aka old-fashioned dealers who sell to firms (often over the phone) that have better things to do than shop around for the lowest price. If you want to pop eyeballs, then go to a commercial dealer's price list and show it to your friends... If you are selling gear, this is the market to be in.

Nothing against 'em, just know that for all the sgi machines I've had over the years (several octanes, indigo2, a couple o2s, onyx), the most expensive SGI product I've purchased was a $30 1.4 octane frontplane and most everything else was free (at least in the $$ sense, some favors here and there, etc). So compare, hobbiest market and commercial market...

They blend more than you would think. Plenty of dealers get hobbyist stuff & sell it on for way more, me included sometimes. S'how I
pay the bills. The last DCD I sold went for about $1700, though sadly I had to buy the bloomin' thing from a dealer for about $1500.
Still made something though.

Anyway, you can say what you like, what the o.p. bought is still a damn good deal IMO.

I think it's a good deal as well, but the part is rare (at least on ebay) it is hard to say what is a good deal and what isn't. 1700 is a very good deal if you are selling a dcd, USD or GBP. :) IMHO of course.
