The collected works of Titox - Page 1

Hello,
I'm new in the SGI world (I bought an Octane2 after a lot of moths reading you :D ) and trying blender I have one problem:

When I start blender from the command line (./blender) the shell returns:
Code:
1121:./blender: rld: Error: unresolvable symbol in ./blender: llrint
1121:./blender: rld: Fatal Error: this executable has unresolvable symbols

Can you help me?

Thank you,
Alberto
PD: Octane 2 400Mhz Irix 6.5.22
Tnx Regan, some packages of the overlays were not installed.

Two more things.

1. Start a new topic.
2. Use the search, you will find things like the above.

Sorry, I'll do next time.

Hey, not everything is bad. The hard disk caddies are the same of Tezro / Origin 350... or my Sun LX50 ones.

As some might know the ATI-cards in this beast lacks proper (bugfree) drivers, so I guess the system was a downer for some users back in the days.

Being a linux computer with AGP graphics cards, maybe you can install two nVidia Quadro with the nVidia driver. I did in my pc and the driver is embedded in a script which needs some libraries and compilers to build itself in the destination system. It needs some kernel sources to compile also.

The V120 can be managed from ethernet (ALOM) or via serial cable if this configuration is enabled. There is more information in the Administration Guide .

Once you get access to ALOM, you have to redirect the console to the graphics card:

1. With the server in standby mode: sc> bootmode forth
2. sc> poweron
3. When the ok prompt appears: setenv output-device screen:r1280x1024x60
4. the last part is reboot the server, from the ok prompt: reset

Be carefully this is what I did in a V120 and maybe there is something that must be different.

edit: One more thing, In a V120 setenv output-device ttya sets the console to the serial port but I don't know how to redirect to the ethernet ALOM.

Don't confuse the 210 with the 120. The 210s have the ALOMS you mentioned, the 120s have LOMs (pre ALOM).

Wellcome!!!
Yes, very nice setup. One question: What interface are you using to connect the Octane to de 1600SW? (To strip the Sync signal of the green)

Thank you.
Downloading the LiveCD now ... Wow, acording with the ' What's new ' pdf, Compiz is included... Seems it's not designed for professionals.
Well. Happy new year to all!!!

Here you are another very happy customer of Ian. This package arrived this moorning:

Nice machine. I see you have a Seagate DAT drive. I thought only Sony models were compatible with SGI. Can anyone add to the Fuel Hardware aggregator a list of compatible DDS's?

Thank you

Hi,
I have stored in my hardisk this picture showing a 013-2746-007 with a DM5. This can tell that the difference can be a different release of the hardware but with the same functions (modernization?).
10-22-10-174-P1350335.JPG
013-2746-007 VBOB with a DM5.

Previous releases (before 013-2746-004) can be the first series for Octane and Onyx2 when the DM5 was not available:
DM2VBOB-2S.jpg
Old VBOB. Only TMDS upgradeable.

This pictures are not taken by me so I can't confirm. :(
Hello,
I'm looking to attach a rack disk array to my Octane. Searching in auction sites (it must be cheap) I found a lot of Fibre Channel arrays from LSI, Hitachi or EMC.

Is any brand of SCSI disk arrays? Yes, I know the Sun StorEdge but I want something like LSI or SGI TP900. Unfortunately it seems that there are very few and very expensive TP900. Maybe have I to change the QLA12160 to Qlogic FC?
What do you think?

Thanks.
Ups, sorry. I forgot to say I have two QLA12160 (Shoebox + Shoehorn) in the Octane so only LVD arrays. And I'm interested in performance, I want to play with a bunch of 15K hard disks in RAID 0.
PymbleSoftware wrote: I think a far better option is gigabit networking and nice modern NAS with a few Tb of shiny, newer, faster drives.

I've solved this last year. One HP Microserver + Windows + Microsoft NFS server. It does the job very good but my StorEdge S1 with two 15K is faster so I want a second unit for the other card- The StorEdge S1 only has three slots and I want more. Sun 3120 and 3310 are a good arrays but too expensive even without caddys!!
jan-jaap wrote: I got an empty Dell PowerVault 220S chassis with my Tezro. That's a dual channel LVD SCSI JBOD, either Ultra160 or Ultra320 speed (mine is U320). You can find them pretty cheap on eBay etc.

Very nice array. With dual controllers you can connect 7 hd's to one QLA and the other 7 to the second QLA. Right?

Who has some experience with HP arrays? The HP Disk System 2100 seems good for a 4 disks, but then I will need two arrays. IBM Exp models maybe?

Dell is winning now...
Hi,
my Octane 2 (400Mhz & 2 GB RAM) and O2 (R5200 256MB) are ready to test packages with 6.521f and 6.5.30 in both machines. Irix 6.5.21f hard disks have a nearly full nekoware installation also to check dependencies.

I praise for get some more free time!

Maybe only the desktop daemon is not running. Open a shell window, get root privileges on this account and try:

Code: Select all

chkconfig desktop on

And then logout and login again.
Maybe the System Manager doesn't creates the necessary files in the user directory. I have always created the users from EZSetup. EZSetup checks the integrity of files.
DNS can be the problem, but with a bad DNS configuration the root desktop is also broken -I think?-
Pics, pics, pics, pics!!!

Nice machine!

You need a license on iLo to unlock the gui mode for the remote console post install. If you are text only, you don't need it.

The same for iLO3 but you can install 'iLO Integrated Remote Console' on a remote Windows machine and do the same without license.

Well, In eBay there is a canadian seller with a DM2 card for 249$. He is listing the card since nearly 2 years (may be more).

But QuicksilverG4 sold his one for only 50$ in Nekochan (I was late here): http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16726414&hilit=dm2

I'm only a collector so professional_big_studio_prices are impossible for me...
