Nekochan Net

I've updated to the latest MediaWiki version this evening but it proved a messy upgrade. In the past it was enough to simply untar the newer version over the old one and run an update script (as per Manual:Upgrading ), but they've apparently shuffled some files around and caused breakage this time around. I've set everything back up under a clean install, but if anyone notices something not working as before let me know.

Thanks for your efforts. I just briefly checked a few pages and it all seems like its all still there.

I noticed this morning that the Tidy extension wasn't set up correctly so I fixed it (it still had the binary location from a past life in the configuration file). The layout of the Main Page seems to rely on broken HTML so Tidy is mangling the appearance somewhat. I poked around with the source a bit to see if I could clean it up, but much of what I tried only made it worse. If it looks like enabling Tidy will be too much of a hassle at this point I can turn it back off, but it's supposed to make things easier/cleaner.

I had a quick go at fixing the popular categories but couldn't fix it quickly so I left it alone.
smj did the reformatting of the main page to the format it was in last, my last update(s) were minor.

I went ahead and redesigned the front page this afternoon. It also has some new links that should make editing/contributing easier.

I set up MediaWiki to hide 'index.php' to be a bit cleaner. I also ran a query against the forum database to update any wiki links to use the new format, so there shouldn't be any need to go back and edit old posts.

I have updated the Editing the nekochan wiki topic in the HowTo section, to include a line about how to create a new wiki topic without the index.php in a URL:

Some times something that is a sub section someone has added is worthy of a topic in itself. I have created a new page with the text of the original page and then include the new page in the original topic. No text is lost but can be included into multiple pages if desired or accessed directly as its own topic.

I wrote a wiki page on how to include other pages inside pages in the wiki:

If you see a change like this and don't like it, revert it and I will respect it.

People correcting my spelling mistakes are quite welcome.

Google is still linking to pages such as http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Index.php/ ... x_Commands which now say "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs.", rather than returning a 404. The page can currently be found at http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Useful_Irix_Commands .

This has happened on a number of pages that I have looked up today.

Google will catch up eventually. Unfortunately I don't have any control over them, you'll just have to wait until they update their index.

Looks like Google has caught up; a search for "useful irix commands" returns the new URL structure.
