The collected works of sgizone

OK call me stupid but I am having no luck getting BOINC/SETI to run on ANY MIPS box. I did get it set up on the 320, but I was hopeing to get it running on the Octane or Onyx.

I downloaded the files indicated on nekochan's front page but when I run bzip2 on it it is an empty file (a 12 Meg empty file) but unusable.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,
James
How can one look at the status of their work units (for loss of a better term) under IRIX? On the 320 I can open the Boinc manager and see what is going on, how can I do this on IRIX? Right now I am getting a "No Schedulers response' but it is requesting more work to get this error. According to the Seti site and my account the machine was sent some work units. Where do I look on the machine to see how many and the status of them.

Thanks,
James
I am getting the following message when I boot my Onyx:

Checking Hardware Inventory
*** Slice 1 on the IP19 in slot 2 isn't visible ****
Press <Enter> to continue

What is the problem? Is it a CPU or a cache module. Also which CPU is which, 1 2 3 4?

Thanks in advance,
James
OK, I looked at the board closer and found CPU 2. I reseated all the SIMMs and the chip, but I am still getting the same message. I guess my questions should be:

What is 'slice 1' ?

and

What is 'slot 2' ?

Thanks again,
James
What is the best way to clean and reseat the cpu's on this board?

Thanks in advance,
james
I am looking for some 2-way thermal tape to 're-apply' a heatsink. I know there are different kinds but does that really matter as long as it transfers heat? The heatsink is the small one on a LSI chip in the rear of a IP25 board. The old tape is transparent and very thin, not the same as the stuff on the CPU's.

Thanks,
James
OK here is a new question. Are there jumpers on the IP25 board for making the CPU's active? I fired up the board in my Onyx and first I get an 'error' message (for lack of a better term) that tells me that slot 2 used to have a IP19 and now has a IP25, click<enter> to continue. I click enter and get to the maintinence screen. Click command monitor and type in hinv and it shows me two cpu's: CPU 1 and CPU 2. On the IP19 board if one of the cpu's fails test and is deactivated the hinv still shows the cpu's in order fron 0 to 2.
This is why I was wondering if they could be turned off or could it be because I am in the PROM and not under IRIX. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
James
This may sound like a foolish question but it is giving me grief. The 6.5 CD set I have has version 7.2.1 of the IDL and IDF CD's. My MipsPro C and C++ compilers are versions 7.3.1. I am getting a error stating the they are incompatable. where can I find a newer version of the IL and IDF CD's?

Thanks In Advance,
James
I have a quad R10k board in my Onyx (1) but it is only showing 2 cpu's working. What is the best way to determine if this is a board problem or if those two chips are dead?

Thanks in advance,
James
EDIT: Post contents removed by moderator. James, this is a 'non-legal' request. ;-) Thanks for your understanding.
This may be out of place but .... I am in need of 2 anti-static bags large enough to store a IP19 board form an Onyx and a CPU board from a Power series deskside. If anyone can help please let me know.

Thanks a million,
James
I'm mostly looking for the purple front door and the lower skid plates. THey're small enough to make shipping doable - is the hole in the black or the purple parts ? Can you send some pics ?

Well, it looks like you beat me to them Joe :) I still have the 10000 IR front door if you want to trade for the plain Onyx one. Also for what it is worth I am looking for a set of side rails also.

Thanks,
James
I have been away from this project for a while, but now I am back on it.

check with the LEDs in front of the board the position of the "dead" CPUs,

Exactly what am I looking for on the LED's? I can see the four sets and they show this after booting to the PROM:

During boot the first and third sets blink in various orders, the second set does some blinking and the fourth set does nothing.

Once booted: the first set blinks steadily 5 lights the second and third sets have two LED's lit and the fourth set has all 6 lit.

Hope this help someone to tell what to do. My next step is to clean all the CPU's and carriers and see whathappens.

Thanks in advance,
James
I looked at ULINE but they only sell in lots of 100 for $77.00. I don't need that many. I just want to protect the 2 boards I have here. The company I work for does business with ULine and I think I will ask if someone can get a couple of 'samples'.

The board dim. are 16 in X 15 in

Thanks for all the responses,
James
I have a few myself:

R4400 150 Indigo Elan Irix 6.2

R10k 195 Indigo2 High Impact w/ TRAM (Purple) Irix 6.5.15
R4400 200 Challenge M w/Vault (both Blue) Irix 6.2
R5000 150 Indy 24bit Irix 6.2
R4400 200 Indy 24bit Irix 6.2

R4400 150 Crimson RE Irix 6.2
RE2 Onyx w/ quad R10k 195 Irix 6.5.15

Still trying to get the Onyx happy and I need a part for the 4D/440. But that is another post.

James
I have a Onyx 1 with quad R4400 150's. I also have a quad r10k 195 board to go into it. I am having a problem with the R10k board. The system will not see all the processors and it is driving me nuts. I don't think it is the board or the procs, I think it may be the carriers. If anyone has the time and machine, I am willing to ship the board to you for repair. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Thank you,
James
I have been through the PROM settings and done all that I know how to do. The first time I used the board it showed all 4 procs and then it dropped 2. I could reseat them and it would work somethimes and sometimes not. I noticed that one or two of the carriers were not in the best shape, so I am assuming that they are the problem.
OK this could be my problem. My IO board ends in -006. I guess I am looking for a IO board now. The quad R10k board did come from a fellow Nekochaner (Nekochaniste? Nekochanoid?), but this sheds some new light on the issue.

Thanks,
James
