I just picked up an Onyx 300 and I can pull off the rails to get a part number or a measurement for you if that would help. The computers look the same from what I can tell.

The onyx 300 is getting data pulled off of it as we speak and I can have it this friday. It was a graphics generator for one of the simulators here at my work and has been replaced by a rack of PCs. I provided a R10k O2 and a bunch of free labor in exchange for the 300. It looks to have 8 video out ports. I did find all of the doors and covers yesterday. Here are some poor phone photos....

That had to hurt ;)

Looks like two full graphics pipes with six raster/texture boards. So basically you have two complete InfiniteReality Graphics systems shared by the same O300 processor complex. Your gonna need a couple of 220V outlets.

Power I have, knowledge not so much. I wanted this machine to learn with instead of the Onyx rack. There are a lot more parts for this machine floating around ebay. I will post a hinv as soon as they let me touch it.

Thanks for the reroute of my thread hijack.

Jesus, Mopar. You traded an O2 for this ? Wanna go to Vegas with me ?

This may qualify as trade-of-the-year ! :D

The O2 they needed for some software that links SGIs to the platform controller and for a dedicated compiler. But I also gave about 40 hours of free labor and I need to get this machine moved from a server room to my truck on my own. But, I am highly motivated! :D

I have a complete working indy you can have for $125 shipped. I am in Southern Ca. I can get you more info if you need. The machine boots and runs fine, the case is in fair condition. No cracks or chips, but a bit faded.

Thanks,
John

Hey R,
I have an extra set of rails off of an Origin 300 that was in a spares box from my system. I have no clue what they are worth but would trade for SGI stuff you might have. I feel I need to give you a deal because I hijacked your thread. :D

Let me know,
John

This may sound dumb, but are you sure that the breaker that feeds what you are plugged into is switched on? The ofline supplies are a set of single phase supplies so one should have come up. I have the manuals for these and will get some info on the POKB power issue as I suffered with the same failure on an Onyx. It was from a damaged IO4 board IIRC.

Were any boards moved/ removed before you picked it up?

I will look at the other boards and see if this converter is used on any of them. If not I could sell you one out of my onyx as I only use 10% of it anyway.

That's what I'm afraid of, too. What I was thinking about was to remove the CPU from the IP25 (although I didn't find the time to check if this task has it own risks) try to de-solder the FW300F1 (I have acces to a professional SMD desoldering station and the owner of the station offered his assistance) and to solder the new one in, reinsert the CPU and give it a try. The board is defective anyway, the only problem could be that I fry the CPU or anything else because of internal havoc caused by the soldering.

mopar150, did you mean that you are thinking of selling me a surplus non-IP25 board with a FW300F1 so that I can try to de-solder it? That would be pretty cool, thanks a lot. But AFAIR the FW300F1 is only used on IP25 boards. Is there any chance that you're willing to sell an IP25? If swapping the CPUs would be possible I would be very happy with a naked board w/o the R10k. I think that you wrote "the other boards" on purpose because you don't want to part with an IP25, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Shipping the whole thing to Germany will be another question, I think.

Cheers
HDC

Sorry for the slow response. I will be selling the Onyx10k to make room for my new machine and if I can't get a buyer for the whole machine I will part it out and sell you a known good IP25. I have seen several power boards on ebay for $150 that may have the same converter. Also, I have a vacuum desolder station for thru-hole PCBs and could help you remove the one you have. The best way to remove something that big is to cut up the part on top and only have to deal with the pins. that way you can heat both sides.

eBay is full of people hoping to get rich. There's also someone out there offering the guts (including the power boards) of an Onyx for $2K+ / board. Guess what -- it's been there for more than a year and it's not selling. I bought a spare 303 board for 30 bucks about a month ago.

I have an Onyx IR (freebie) with a quad R10K board (100 bucks?). My Challenge has three IP25's (the sought after quad R10K, 2MB L2 variety) and I'm sure I paid less than $100 each for those as well. That's the entire CPU board, in working condition and not a DIY cross-your-fingers project.

Oh, and IP25 boards are *heavy*. In other words: transatlantic shipping is going to cost you.

I know the seller you are talking about, recycledgoods. They have allways been very overpriced. I contacted them to make an offer on the whole onyx they had and they wouldn't come down in price. There are still several power boards on ebay for less than $200. As jan jaap has said if you wait you can get a deal. I bought 3 loaded MC3s and an IO4 for $275 shipped. I haven't seen an IP25 for a long time.

Hey Guys,
I have several systems for sale or trade. I now have my Origin300/Onyx2 rack and ugly deskside working and they need more space.

I have..

Octane 2x400 1G ram, EMI graphics, fair plastics.
Octane 2x250 1G ram, Dual head graphics, good plastics.
SOLD! Octane2 2x600 1G ram V10 graphics good plastics.
SOLD! Octane2 2x600 Working Flame system, 6G ram, V12 graphics, DCD, PCI cage,
Fiber cards, Dmedia card cables and BOB, 2 stones, GigE card, license server pc,
2 rack mount burn nodes, Tablet, good plastics.
Octane2 1x600 512m ram V10 graphics good plastics.
Octane2 2x400 1G ram V6 graphics good plastics.
Octane2 1x400 51 ram V6 graphics fair plastics.

All systems have bootable drives installed. I will ship anywhere if you pay the costs. I would prefer a pick-up of the Flame system as all together it must be 400 pounds. I wil part out the Flame system if there is no interest in the whole system.

Please let me know what you have in trade. I am looking for Onyx2 rack or deskside with good plastics and SGI LCD monitors.
PM offers and I will get HINVs and photos of the machines that people are interested in.

Thanks Nekochan!

As Mia said it is the shipping that will kill you. I paid $500 for a deskside a few weeks back because I could pick it up. I just wanted the plastics, power supply and a few boards.
That said, $1K for a working machine with nice plastics is a fair price if you can pick it up. The dual 400 mhz boards go for under $100 on ebay and RM-10 boards are just over $100. So you can upgrade them for little money as long as you get the chassis cheap enough.
Where are you located? I have a deskside Onyx2 or a G-brick/Origin 300 combo I will sell you cheap if you are willing to pick them up here in Palm Springs,CA

Hey Guys,
I have a G-brick for sale that has IR3 and IR2e boardsets in it along with the KTown2 board. I had this hooked up to an Origin300 4x500,Igig, 143GIG that is also for sale. I will sell these as a set if someone is interested. I also have the Ktown board that came with the G-brick in case you need that. The system works well and boots to IRIX.

Thanks,

I realize I am not a veteran here, but I am on many other forums and have found Nekochan more liberal than most. Most forums might let you mouth off about a rule once ! After they tell you no the next post gets you banned. I would hate to see this forum shutdown because of some dirtbag lawyer or patent troll.

The rules are simple and clear. I am sure this subject will come up again and again as new users ask for software and the mods will set them straight. It just seems to be a restart of the whole issue every time they point out the rule to a newbe. Just my 2 cents.

I am not an expert on software, but I have had to yank out a power cord as my I2 power supply smoked. I have found Maya 6.5 runs fine on an Octane2 2x400, V10 and I have spare parts that were cheap and available. As a novice I don't get 10 hours straight to learn something so the machines get turned on and off for days on end and that hammers the PSU.
