Also, do you happen to have the PV, Digital, Compression, and Analogue/Digital video option info? I think there is a lot of confusion on this.

Lurker's Guide to Video is probably the most complete single description of all the options that you'll find.

just added some basic VPro info

Nice! Some mention of the V6/V8 pixel clock issue and/or the supported resolutions would be a nice addition <and a good reference for those frequent V6/V8 resolution questions >.

I happened to run into this item on eBay and was wondering exactly what it was.

That's an Octane Compression Option, also known as the Impact Compression <ImpComp> and sometimes as the Cosmo2. Intended for use with MGRAS graphics but can be made to work with VPro graphics <making it the only analogue video option that works with VPro>. I wrote a nekowiki on the subject:

the tables style doesn't match the others in the wiki (personally I think yours is nicer and the others should be changed),

whatever you think is more appropriate guys (personally i find the other pointy/edgy tables ugly too)

and the SS/DS (Single-Sided / Double Sided?) should be clarified.

check! that's easy

Couple of fun facts to add (if you have time before me) on the Indy and Indigo RAM info from the SGI specs.

funny enough, i'm totally busy these days auditioning new actors @ Hampstead Theatre, funnier enough i find that taking an 1 hour brake writing up / formatting technical stuff is kind of untripping..

thanks for the links scott, that's what i meant in a previous reply, (let's post here some good sources so i/we can have a starting point..)

this guy's work is amazing, just like his documentation/explanation(s)... got it on my list for soon-to-be wiki entries

oh and btw, you guys keep an eye on my prose from time to time, i might block some article like a film/play script due to vested speed :) ...
Just cleaned up the O2 page. The 139-pin number wasn't changed, 278 is correct (especially as used in the article for the motherboard slots), only single-sided modules can even be thought of as 139. Also added the single-sided/ double-sided. My criticism was that SS/DS isn't a universal abbreviation for single-sided/ doubled-sided (well, at least it wasn't immediately obvious to me) so the first time it comes up things should be spelled out completely. I also changed a little of the wording to use better parallelism, etc. and clarify that 3rd party RAM may not follow SGI rules (such as SS/DS and color coding), mainly to prevent posts of "My RAM isn't like that in the wiki! The wiki is wrong!" I also mentioned that DIMMs must be installed in descending order. I.e. after the largest in Bank A, an equal or smaller size kit must be in Bank B, etc.

Finally, I believe that not just high-density DIMMs, but ANY type B module requires PROM 4.4 or higher. This is why 256MB is the maximum memory allowed before 4.4. However, the existence of a Type A 128MB modules is confusing. Anyway, I didn't address this until I was 100% sure.

sweeet :)

the o2 page is so much better now, i went through the red links and revived most of them (SDRAM, DIMM etc)..

tillin9 wrote:

speaking of consistency, it would be good a good idea to rephrase some titles @ the How To page, to correct the syntax

ie:

How To: Add Pictures to the Login Screen vs. How To: Access(ing) a CDROM's Volume Header
Yea, I also cleaned up the Add-On options since previously it looked like there was just the dual-head and flat panel (1600sw) options, turns out there are three, there is also the Indy / 1280 Presenter option. I also managed to figure out how to do pictures in the wiki so as soon as I get my camera back (friend barrowed it for spring break) I'll get the images I mentioned up.

I agree the How To section needs work and I like the idea of making it make sense with How To ________ where the blank is the article title. Cleaning that up will take some work though as a lot of those pages need work as well. The biggest issue here is with linked articles, since if other pages link to those pages, changing the titles will break things. Since I'm still new to wiki editting, is there anyway to see all linked pages?

Finally, feel free to clean up my grammatical errors, I've been busy writing papers lately so I have this in mind, but I'm an Engineer not an English major :P so there will likely be mistakes.
It would be nice to incorporate and expand Wikipedia's "Template:SGI computer timeline" here.

added some info (and a separate section) about o2's video system, i also put a thumb of the o2 cam (from diego's album@nekogallery) to see how/if it aligns...

if anyone has any pics of the AV1/AV2 boards, feel free to add them or send me a link and i'll do it.. tillin is right, we gotta put some pics of the o2

(@scott: thanks for the router info)

i guess it'd look ok under the sgi entry ( http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/SGI )
joerg+schleusel rock 8-)

thanks a ton for the IRIX Installation and Customization article

(it just had to be done)
Following Joerg's suggestion I created a page about MRTG.

http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/ ... thout_SNMP

p.s. It required some serious head scratching before I figured out how to even create a new page :D

I have added http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/index.php/Mrtg_(neko_mips4) . If you like you can link to so you dont need to describe the installation or deps.

About your article:
Think about to use
Code:
<pre>
lines of code
</pre>

instead
Code:
<2xWhitespace>line of code

The benefit would be that its now possible to copy and paste the content without the need for removing the 2 whitespaces in front.

Think about to use /usr/nekoware/etc rather the /etc to avoid conflicts with stock IRIX or other custom packages. This rule (together with the prefix "neko_") was used for all nekoware packages and configurations.

When writing scripts dont omit the extension. Use "foo.sh" instead only "foo" which makes it more human readable.

All right, I've made the proposed changes.

The
Code:
<pre></pre>
trick is a time saver! I've got tired of tapping spacebar :D Used this as a reference, and unfortunately it doesn't say a word about it.

I have built a table of SCSI bus adapters working with IRIX.

http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/ ... _with_IRIX

I have taken things from my hinv posts, and the hardware aggregators.

I take no offense at anyone correcting and/or improving my wiki entries.
I have started all kinds of topics which I wish someone would improve upon.

If you use a SCSI card on SGI machines not in the above mentioned table please add it.

Which should be better organized...I'm trying to do my part learning how to, and creating articles on our wikipedia (also, making my articles avaiable on my site soon, http://tabalabs.com.br ). More people here should do the same

Since I'm learning everything about SGI just now (I'm a complete newbie) I see that as a great oportunity to create newbie tutorials.

How so..?
Almost every page can be found from one of the pages from the main page...

SGI
Computer Systems
IRIX
How To

There are very very few if any orphan pages... and would have thought its up to the site owner to decide structure,

R.

Tabalabs didn't originally post this here. It was so far off-topic in the hinv it was originally posted in I could only assume it ended up there by accident.

Since it dealt directly with the wiki I moved it here.

i just browsed our wiki to check the o2 page and found out that regan & smj are busy on it

it looks much better, nice to see it growin' + rockin' :)
i'll chime in quickly for magellan and all other members to clarify a few things:

recondas (and probably the rest of the team here too) keeps an eye on this 'gator and helps me/you/the girl across the bar/everyone to come back to an updated list.

i personally asked him to do this (whenever he is able to), since i'm sgi-less for quite some time now & i cannot keep a rocksteady beat presence here in the forum.

back in the day, i'd search the forum and just link to the kind of discussion recondas + magellan have above, just to keep this thread as a single-post list (to make my (re)search easier).

to stay honest, the longer it grows, the harder is is to be maintained as a single post. so what do you guys think, shall we migrate this to the wiki? or are you happy as it is?

It does seem to be a natural fit for the wiki, and likewise for the similar threads for the Octane and the Fuel.

One idea - move the aggregator contents to the wiki, but keep this thread here as a placeholder, perhaps editing the first post to be a pointer to the wiki page and to have a recommendation to add future content directly to the wiki. For those who don't want to edit the wiki directly, messages could be added to this thread as candidates for wiki inclusion.

PS. If agreed, would it make more sense to maintain as a single, long wiki page, or would it be better to break it into smaller pages within a category, e.g. O2 Hardware Aggregator/SCSI HardDisks, O2 Hardware Aggregator/SCSI PCI Cards, O2 Hardware Aggregator/Fibre Channel Cards, and so on?
sounds tres kool to me jose

i'll have to polish my wiki skills again (to be honest editing the wiki ain't easier than editing a phpbb thread. to me at least). i think it'll look better on the wiki though.

what about the rest of you guys? let's vote, this thread ain't mine
