Hey,

I've submitted the form for a new Nekochan Wiki account. The procedure stated that the account will become valid/usable only after it is approved.

It's been a week since then and the account has not been approved yet.

Is there someone reading this who could approve it?

Thanks,
Dev

Hey, awesome, I see the account's been approved now. Thanks!

Hey,

SGI DMediaPro DM6 resource on the Nekochan Wiki is: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/DMediaPro# ... I.2FO_card

In a forum post:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16721602&p=7307148&hilit=sdio+sdk2.7p28.tar.gz#p7307148

It is mentioned that DVS provided the DM6 SDK file named "sdio-sdk2.7p28.tar.gz".

Do we have this file archived anywhere? I see that the basic support package for DM6 (named 6.5.21_dmediapro_dm6_1.1.2.tar) has been archived on http://sgidepot.co.uk/depot/ , but this DVS' file wasn't.

I've also looked through Nekochan FTP -- there is nothing with "sdio" in the name in it.

Thanks,
Dev

I've also emailed DVS; no response yet.
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
I did not receive a response from DVS, so I've registered for their "Video Boards Web", where one can find support and SDK files for various cards.

The VBW registration requires manual approval by DVS admins, and after a couple days I have received a note that SDStationOEM has been discontinued long ago and that the "Video Boards Web" does not contain SDKs for that card (and my registration was not approved).

However, DVS kindly offered to provide the files I need, if I specify what's needed. I've requested "sdio-sdk2.7p28.tar.gz" or any newer version that they might have.

We'll see what happens.
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
DVS has kindly provided a link to file named sdk2.7p28.tar.Z.

I believe this filename "sdk2.7p28.tar.Z" is more correct than "sdio-sdk2.7p28.tar.gz" (the filename that was previously reported in the forums) because this SDK seems to have support for SDStationOEM, HDStationOEM and Centaurus boards.
(All three are PCI-X boards, and according to http://web.archive.org/web/201604131846 ... chive.html , Centaurus combines the features of SDBoard and HDBoard).

The top of the SDK README states "This is a combined Beta SDK release for SDBoard / Centaurus".

(Download for base DMediaPro DM6 support file:
http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/depot/6.5.21_ ... 1.2.tar.gz )

Download for DVS SDK:
http://sgidepot.co.uk/depot/sdk2.7p28.tar.Z
ftp://ftp.nekochan.net/pub/irix/Drivers ... 7p28.tar.Z

(Just for cross-referencing purposes -- DM6 base support file + SDK archive location can be found in:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16730629&p=7389723#p7389723 )
:Tezro:
Implicitly they did, I believe. I've asked them to send this file or any later version, and they sent this file.
(But they did not explicitly state in the text that this was the latest version.)

(Also, as a double-check: they sent this version to another forum member who contacted them in 2009. I would say it's unlikely they made any changes to IRIX SDK after 2009.)
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
(Looking into the archive, it appears CVS was used for version control, and the latest date found in the files is:
$Id: dvs_clib.h,v 1.9 2005/03/04 12:09:10 $)

The filesystem date of the files that were packed into the archive is Mar 8, 2005, and the date of the .Z file they created and provided for download was today's (Apr 27, 2016).

So we could reasonably assume that the archive was produced today and that it indeed contains the latest/last version of the files.

Also, here is probably the last remaining thread which was useful but not cross-referenced yet, on the topic of SGI DMediaPro DM6:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16724548

It discusses SDStationOEM, SDStationOEM II, software support and PCI-X compatibility in various SGI machines.

Working on building my e-commerce platform, and listening to the song Robosonic - Worst Love, which is also available on YT and features a pretty funny video clip. (The video clip they used is unrelated to the song, it is from one of the sequels of movie called "Lemon Popsicle")

Notes:
- The S2iO 10Gb Ethernet card is running at pretty high temperature
- It appears that opening the left side of the case (the one with VPro & PSU) lowers the temperature, while opening the right side (with CPUs and RAM) rises it and the machine shuts down.

Hehe, sure, I've been watching that thread. I'll sure try doing that as well; the point I'm kind of stuck at at the moment is locating the pins to which I should connect the fan I'd add above the VPro.
Actually I just found it -- as you said "SGI included an <unused> three-pin fan header on the Tezro version of the V12 that isn't present on the Fuel version of the V12.".
I'll try to follow what you did there and fill in with any other info if I find something new/untried yet or some good fans. Thanks!
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
Actually, recondas -- where is that 3-pin fan header? I've opened the cover of the VPro and I only see two connectors of which none seem to be it.
There is a 2-pin header between the two heatsinks, and there is a 6-pin header deeper above the larger heatsink, close to the PCI-X attachment.
I don't see anything with 3 pins.

Also, is the header a standard 3-pin fan or I need to change the order of wires as shown in viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9046 ?

I've played a bit with determining the effect of additional fans on the temperature.

In the tests, I've been measuring:
- With and without the left panel (the one on the VPro side) being present
- With and without the VPro cover being present
- With and without additional fan present (used Noctua NF-P14, running at 1200 RPM: http://noctua.at/en/nf-p14-flx/specification )

Overall, it appears that the largest positive influence on the temperature has the removal of the left panel.
Without it installed, it is possible to achieve the lowest temperature of the VPro, as well as the fact that it also reduces the temperature of BEDROCK by about 5 C and of NODE by 2-3 C without me doing anything to them.

So, temperature of "4 ODYSSEY" in various combinations (in order of best first):

- Without panel, without cover, fan on top (perpendicular to case air flow): 32 C (image of this setup it attached)
- Without panel, without cover, fan parallel (in the direction of air flow): 34 C
- With panel, with cover, fan on top: 36-37 C
- With panel, without cover, fan parallel: 36-37 C
- With panel, without cover, fan on top: 36-37 C
- Without panel, with cover, no fan: 39 C
- With panel, with cover, no fan: 42+ C (this is standard setup without modification)

Notes:
- I did not examine the effects if the front panel is removed rather than the left panel.
- I did confirm that removing the right panel (one on the CPUs/RAM side) quickly increases temperature of BEDROCK, and then initiates shutdown. (So as mentioned, removing the left panel is beneficial, while removing the right is not).
- The image of the most effective variant found (reaching down to 32 C) is attached.

Additional mini-chapter:
- I did not find the 3-pin fan connector on the VPro. Instead, I've plugged a dedicated fan control box in between the PSU 12V power and the DVD drive. (I happened to have this fan controller handy: http://sun-trust.net/products/scythe/1068.html ).
- I actually like this approach best and it does not require modifying the fans since they're connected to a compatible controller.
- The only drawback is that if one wants to replace Tezro's DVD drive with a 1x5.25 -> 4.x2.5 SAS/SATA drive enclosure (such as Icy Dock MB994SP-4SB-1 or Logilink UA0208), then there may not be enough depth available to mount both the drives enclosure in the back and the fan control in the front of the 5.25 slot. (In the attached image, it can be seen that there is only little unused depth remaining between the end of the DVD and start of the PSU, although it might be just enough - didn't try yet!).

I've taken it off, my mini-goal here was to measure temperatures, and without the left panel (skin) I was able to produce the lowest temp.
Will post some more pics of it tomorrow, in a more proper dressing :)
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
I wish :) Still hunting for 4x1Ghz instead of 4x800Mhz. But I have a feeling that'll be postponed for a couple years, given the prices of 4x1Ghz boards :)
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
Last time I checked, it was about 1500 EUR :)
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
Well that's interesting, my V12 has a 2-pin header in place of the 3-pin fan header. I will check on the part number etc.
Great, thanks for the tips.

Yo,

DVS is the manufacturer.

In SGI world this was called DM6, the info is here: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/DMediaPro# ... I.2FO_card

And from what I understood, while there was support in Irix for DM6, it also required special support on the application side (because it used openml), and smoke/flame never had support for it.
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
I am looking into the DVS files for Irix (can be found on the DM6 URL from the previous post) and the Centaurus support is mentioned there. So there's a chance this card is supported (supposedly the Centaurus combines the features of SDStation and HDStation).

If you get anywhere with trying to use it, let us know!
oOoO :Tezro: oOoO
Also, check out http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/DMediaPro# ... I.2FO_Card .
The product "DM12" on the DMediaPro page mentions Centaurus explicitly.

Right, as someone already mentioned, symlinks are not necessary.

In fact, see this Wiki page: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/IRIX_Insta ... tion#Shell

The part it links to is a ready-made .profile you can use for the Bash shell. It will configure everything you need to run/use Nekoware seamlessly.

I've ported some stuff and can't find icons (like the latest version of xchat)

Where does one find icon files? :D

Hey,

Some of the links to icon files can be found at the bottom of:

I seem to remember something like the error msg you reported.

Did you try moving your extracted files into the directory /CDROM and running the install from there?
