The collected works of calvin

I like the new look. The inconsistency of previous releases with old leftovers and all were ugly, especially the gradients. I don't like the headerbars, but otherwise, it looks very nice.

Stop being reactionaries - change can be good.

XP was crap back in the day. I remember the massive malware problems, got hit hard by them, and the awful performance degradable, which are unexplainably bad. Vista on a newer machine was a massive improvement. Hell, on the same machine, I'm typing this post on Windows 8 - it's still zippy!

Also, VMS is a communist plot to destroy the POSIX standard . Why would you love the KGB computing platform?

edit: And don't expect Windows 7 to be here forever. It's a fine OS (it runs great on my P3, where XP was kinda eh) but it's a matter of time before this XP support ending charade repeats itself with this.

You can't adapt, you die.

The new UI takes, like what, 5 minutes or less to get used to - you can even get rid of the Metro apps and use it as a nice fullscreen launcher, keeping some for live tiles - I do this and it works out fine.

I like Kanye, been meaning to listen other artists like Kendrick. What's this place's thoughts on hip-hop?

I've never gotten a virus in my years of doing stuff since Vista. (XP was a magnet for that shit, I don't miss it) I download a lot of stuff. Go get a torrent client, grab a magnet, burn it, you win.

It helps to uncheck shit when installing shit.

Was more addressing the fear of malware.

And considering the rampant amount of... less than tolerant words around here, I don't see much moderation.

Do you mean AROS? That's available for amd64 machines.

Tiger will work on a G5 too, though it may be later revisions only.

Treos and Centros don't like using non-cell networks. I considered getting one to supplement my T|X, but the lack of wifi made me ignore them.

i'm more surprised that phpBB actually had an update! some slight modernization, at least on the frontend. wonder if it's the same ol' decade old php cruft inside though...

i for one love old insecure PHP!

you'll want Overbite for modern Firefox-on-Gopher fun

Bumping due to a Treo conquest. My solution is probably just to swap SD cards and get a SIM adapter for internet usage.

Hey, I liked webOS... probably one of the few mobile OSes to do multitasking right, other than Maemo. Nowadays they can get the interface right (by way of hirng the designer) but there's details like multiple windows Android and iOS still can't manage with.

Wow, the modern world has really not been kind to this because most sites (and I use privacy-oriented stuff) are using far stricter TLS, (like TLSv1.2, SNI,) which the little thing can't do.

A proxy in between could do the trick, but I haven't had much luck with Squid+SSL.

I actually bothered to check Wireshark on the simulator. SSLv3 only, jesus. Anyone who cares about security disabled that because of POODLE bites.
all other BSDs suck other than OpenBSD. love all ancient unix workstations!

But seriously, fuck having kids. My computers are my adopted children, and I have several terabytes of doujins and hentai just waiting to be read.

Wow. Just wow. You are not making yourself out to be a likeable person with your hateful tone, petty hatred of GNU and other things (I don't like them either, but not to this extent) and... this little rant.

Have you tried exactly what it says on the tin: run it from DOS? (actual DOS, not a DOS session in OS/2 or within DOS running in Windows)

Likely for Hololens.

1. If you're just going to run Linux, why bother with SGIs?

2. SGI hardware is a poor fit for a NAS. Not only is it loud, hot, and power hungry, (the standard old workstation fare) the HW and SW aren't suited for it. (That is, IRIX is a terrible server and SGI hardware doesn't have HW RAID or proper space) If you're doing A/V stuff like rendering 3D or capturing video, it can make sense, but if you want a NAS... get something meant for it. A Synology, a whitebox, whatever.

It's not very secure, nor is it optimized for server workloads and applications.

The clear answer is NT. You have IE 3 and Visual C++ 2.x - what else do you want?

There were a lot of Handheld PCs running Windows CE on MIPS/SuperH/ARM, an actual RTOS that looked suspiciously like Windows. It even had a cut down Win32 it used to run cut down Office and IE. Made by a bunch of companies, like HP, Sharp, Compaq, NEC, Ericsson, etc. They're neat, but Pocket PCs are easier to find.

AFAIK, phpBB 3.1 is pretty mobile friendly out of the box, so you can just use your browser. (I just checked, it is.)

Not every website needs to be turned into an app with a thin WebKit veneer around it. Unless it would have clear benefits over a website, don't.

IIRC, the feature was removed in Windows 7 .

Huh, never knew about this software. Too bad their site is down, would like to have in my "ancient commercial Linux software" archive.

This would be funnier if any of these buzzwords were relevant.
