Very nice machine :mrgreen: I also think that an Onyx2 with IR in any configuration is one of the most desirable computers ever built :mrgreen: And i also know the trips to get these... ;)

BetXen wrote: Hi folks !

Thanks to maxsleg, I'm now the happy owner of IMO one of the most desirable sgi... an Onyx2 IR2E. I finally decided to do the trip to his place to pick it up. 8 hours, 80kg and 800km later (+ a lot of spare parts and other gifts), I still think that it was a good idea. It was a long trip but was worth it. Thanks Paul !

Earlier this year I bought an Octane2 graphics assembly with:

* V12 board (last rev.)
* DCD option
* DmediaPro DM2 video option
* an XIO FC card

... for ~ $225 (or was it €225 ?) + shipping :)

This is almost exactly what i payed for my Octane2 with V12, DCD, DM2, FC and i also got a nice dual 600 in the same setup ;) But i think i was lucky, because the graphics hadn*t been mentioned in the text of the auction. A long time before this i was on the lookout for a V12 + DCD and never bought one, because the all went for 300€+...

Hi,

i also have a VBoB, it's a 013-2746-007 Rev A VBoB. I have the version with DM5 option installed, i use it with a Octane2/DM2 and it works flawless. I also included some pictures. So with this one we already have 2 013-2746 with DM5.

Leaves the question why the VBoB got a new part number instead of just a new revision once in the past.

I am wondering how people use their VBOB and what is on the other side of it.
What video hardware (monitors/input sources/etc/cameras) do you use with your SGI?
This may have been cover in the past but I am wondering what people are using now.

R.

My VBOB isn't used much at the moment, but i use my Onyx2 for capturing old skate and bmx videos i still have as VHS. I convert them and hope to conservate them for the future ;)

I attached a BlackMagicDesigns analog to sdi converter which really has superb quality (as far as superb can be for VHS). I also use it for getting output from my digital tv recorder, i think it looks as good as a dvd...

It's a stone array with 36gb scsi disks. Runs with DB9 fibre channel. I got it with the rack last month :mrgreen: Works fine, just the dongle for the still installed fire is missing :(

I'm a mechanical engineer, working for a medium large automotive supplier in Koblenz/Germany. So i think there are quite some people here from outside the It business. But i admit i started loving sgi back in university in the 90s, and that didn't change much

Hu,

seems i missed out on supporting the site :( I'm not here every day, hope i don't miss it next time. I'm really glad for all the effort and work put into nekochan, without it most of my machines won't be running :)
