Maxx Desktop--Support and Discussion - Page 2

Haven't heard much from my email subscription or the feed, guess he just got busy again.

well well well!

MaXX is not dead! We, Genirix Systems, are just allocating our precious resources (time and $$$) to where it counts! And we believe we are not the only one doing so....

On a personal note. I am agree with you, that the current situation sucks, but there is nothing I can do about it. I am and have been funding this for over 9years! No SGI backup what so ever (as many of you may have thought).

On the brighter side, I am in the process of installing TRAC and a Discussion on maxxdesktop.com to reignite the fire. Also MaXX is doing well on the commercial side and thanks to that we can continue to slowly but without any doubt support the SGI community.

Just be patient and for those who have skills, participate...!

This is my everyday desktop. Heck, I created a FVWM theme to match it because not all my computers can run MaXX.
Is there any package with the source code of DR1 and DR2?
Yes and no. Parts are open source, parts are not per Eric and per SGI.
I posted earlier in a different thread. I thought I would breath life back into this one.

I installed via scripts and everything seems to work just great except I have no indigo magic desktop.

Are there any special config changes I need to make to get the indigo magic like desktop working? I tried searching for answers but can't really find anything.

I logged into IRC but no one is in the #maxx channel, is this project still under development?

If you are still having this problem...ROX-Filer that's supplied with MaXX is crashing.

Just get a newer version from Rox website - I used git to grab the source and compiled it, then moved it to /opt/MaXX/bin64/Apps/ folder. Log out and log back in and it should work.
Is DR4 already out there?

Where can I set the locale? Because it seems everything launched from Toolchest gets 'C' instead of what's set in /etc/sysconfig/i18n? Is it normal that mxterm ignores LANG, even when set displays the right one?

Hi guys!

Will try to answer the best I can.... For most up to date information on the project please visit: maxxdesktop.com

The LANG is set at two location. A system wise in /opt/MaXX/etc/system.desktopenv and in your $HOME/.maxxdesktop/desktopenv The one in your $HOME is the one you should modify.

As for DR4, well I am slowly resuming the development... My business and the poor economy force me to make tough choices... I am considering offering MaXX Desktop with a subscription base to cover the cost and allow me to spend more time on the project.

Hope this helps and don't be shy to drop me a mail if you have questions.

Regards,

Eric Masson

would love to provide a IA64 build, but I don't have access to an Itanium based machine!

I am for the subscription model myself. Anything to get faster updates.
Any news on the status of DR4?

Looks nice on the MBP.
Running via Parallels in full screen mode.
I did a straight Linux install on the MBP but I didn't want to deal with the device issues (no wifi, bluetooth)
Too bad we couldn't get it as an X11 alternative desktop on OS X. Would be nice to switch back and forth between Aqua and DR3/4 on OS X.

I'm curious as well. I've been to the website and it's still at DR3 with the announcement of an impending DR4 some time in 2012/2013. I assume that DR3 works well enough to use, I want to try it on my Ubuntu-ed desktop but I'm wondering how far it has progressed since the release of DR3. Also, I'm wondering how the open sourcing of Motif ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/motif/ ) has affected development.
