A delicate request - Page 2

At that age everyone I knew was throwing rocks at the Establishment and burning cop cars.
Well, I'd like to tell you all about my dream, it's a place
Where strip malls abound and diversion's mere moments away
Where culture is defined by the ones least refined
And you'll be left behind if you don't fit in
It's all distorted in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my dream has come true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My vision has come true

Now, give me my cable, fast food, four-by's, tat's, right away
I want it right now, 'cause my g-ggeneration don't like to wait
My future is determined by thieves, thugs, and vermin
It's quite an excursion, but it's ok
Everything's backwards in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my dream is coming true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My vision has come true
Yeah, it's all coming true

I'm a product
Of my environment
So don't blame me
I just work here but I wanna fuck you

My rights are denied by those least qualified
Trading profit for pride, but it's, it's ok
Everything's backwards in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my nightmare has come true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My nightmare has come true
Yeah, it's all coming true
Yeah, it's all coming true

What I can't understand is, why would anyone want a boyfriend who farted like a horse ?
Apparently, China still peruses Bible translations aimed at pre-school kids. Farting? No way! The NRSV says "[...] whose emission was like that of stallions". Just duplicate that :-)

@our admins: the current thread might be become quite interesting, but out of Nekochan.net. Can you please move it to "Everything else" under, say, "Pro & Con religion" or whatever you think would be ok?

Come to think of it - maybe he wants to annoy YOU? In either case, it wouldn't been overly mature...

And yes - before they flock to Schoenbrunn to see them kangaroos in the zoo, tourists from down under love to get T-shirts with such a logo...
If man would have been created out of the rib of a woman - how different would the world be?
i wasn't talking about religion in general but rather about the late trends to wrap everything in "scientific" paper. certain types of religion always had a tendency to update their wrapping paper. intelligent design, scientology etc, are just another trend of our days, grab some basic issues/axioms of theology, stick a few graphs & equations and call it "intelligent/scientific".

other than that how each one walks around his existential quests is purely a subjective matter. recent news suggest that we found god in a can nuclear reactor

ps: as the OP of this thread you're able to change the title. i've done it myself to keep threads funny/friendly under the "Everything Else" category.

If that's so, just why was it necessary to give the explicit forum rule, "No politics, please"? You might as well remove that rule as superflous. When things in said area go out of hand, someone of you will come as a son of God and lock us anyhow :-)

We mighty moderators prefer to observe the foibles of Nekochanners from our idle and idyllic Olympian heights - deriving great entertainment from doing so - while being fed grapes by virgins and strumming our harps. It disrupts our reveries to be called upon by the Factions and the Multitudes to Smite the Wicked. While a good, righteous smiting occasionally brings pleasure to even the most pacific among us, it inevitably leads to the formation of new sects, to the building of new temples, and to the razing of old ones. Oh, and also the gnashing of teeth. Can't I just enjoy a cool grape on a hot summer afternoon?
Yup. From the tomatoes on down*, phony as a three dollar bill. "Business logic ! Business ethics ! Profit ! Profit ! Gotta make a proooooofit ! Efficient use of reeeee-sources !" (As in, put it all in my bank account, you peasants.) Talk about the Big Lie .... diarrhoea is what it is.

* I have a quick civilization gauge : eat a tomato. If it tastes like cardboard, the society is worthless.

Regarding Christianity...
Bart Ehrman wrote: And so, just as I came to see the Bible as a very human book, I came to see Christianity as a very human religion. It did not descend from on high. It was created, down here on earth, among the followers of Jesus in the decades and centuries after his death. But none of this made me an agnostic.
And Christopher Hitchens in "God is not great" quite clearly points out that all religions are simply man-fabrications and poison everything. Well, I consider myself as an agnostic anyhow. I most surely am not inclined to embrace any religion whatsoever on face value. In fact, I don't believe in religions at all. Grimm's Fairy Tales are much more entertaining, for sure...

Despite of what you wrote before, Scientific Creationism/Creation Science/Intelligent Design are most certainly not trends to hystericize the new millenia at all [contrary to them New Age people who believe that, according to the Maya calendar, the world will go down in less than six months]. In fact, they have their roots in the 1870's, right after Darwin's "The descent of man" - beginning the war between creation and evolution. But why anyone could gloss over evolution so easily and hold on to an intelligent creation of our world escapes me totally...

Can't comment on scientology [or Jehova's witnesses, for that matter] - when they ring at my front door, I just tell them to go to hell.

My signature doesn't refer to any odor at all. Quite to the contrary, it's surely the most pornographic verse in the bible :-)

I saw this somewhere out on the internet a while back and kept it because it was well done....

Here are some other items from the bible:
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from
neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think
would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15:
19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to ki ll him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16.
Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

Beating up on Christians is cheap, like shooting fish in a barrel or sending the Dream Team to represent you in the Olympics. How about taking on a few more stoopid religions ? Such as Business, the Invisible Hand, Free Markets, finance insurance and real estate, Pareto mathematics, entrepreneurs and innovators and all the rest of the braindead ignorant stinking crap that the US and Europe slavishly worships today ? It's no different than the retarded garbage in the bible but a hell of a lot more popular nowadays.
I'll bite.... :)

Although Christianity gets the conversation going I think some of the ideas that are being expressed are not limited to that. Really I see this as a question of Faith vs Reason, or more specially Blind Faith versus Rational Thought.

Your "fishing dream team" example is sort of right out, that plays into the human need to win with surety. That's a different set of problems and devolves into greed nicely.

The other stuff can fit into the Blind Faith category, or as you say "slavishly worship". I do not want to stray too far into Economics because eventually you end up in politics which we are trying to avoid. But generally when ideas become dogmatic then the problems start. Inshrined Economic beliefs are just like religion in that way. If you leave no room for flexibility, then you've screwed your system because ultimately all system have flaws. If man made it, man can break it. We've all been there with Programming, thinking we have built the most solid piece code that turns out to have a stupid bug in the middle of it. The echoing 'DOH' can be heard across the world.

Obviously I can only speak for the slice of society I see from where I'm standing. Your quote of "No different..bible but a hell of a lot more popular nowadays" is not true. Most people in America have no economic ideas or even knowledge, but 70% say they are Christian and 40%+ say creationism is true. That's a problem.

According to various polls, about 85+% of Chinese do believe in God. Apparently, however, that doesn't distract them from worshipping another golden calf - Business - and burn stinking offers world-wide to it. Looks like China is quite happy with that, though. But maybe only 15-% of Chinese are to be blamed for this, and China, overall, is not into any stoopid religion as the US and Europe are at all. Oh, promised land :-)

You believe that ? And then you have the gall to laugh at Christians for believing in creationism and the virgin birth ?

really? hmm i guess that "God" they believe is money ;)
