I appreciate that, but like I said, I have to move the site, I'm retiring. Maybe that's a good thing? :)

i don't think i'd be needed if diegel has his own isp :P

Well someone has to "own the keys" - actually maintaining and running the forum, keeping Nekoware organized , performing software updates, etc. The hosting is only part of it. When I say I'd retire I mean it - I'd be completely disconnected - my account would be locked. If you needed anything done on this site, no matter how minor, it would be handled by someone besides myself.

sure i got that but it didn't sound like you wanna get rid of it right now

Well if everyone is pushing to move to a cheaper solution, then yeah, I'd be out. We're good for at least a few months now on donations, but if that's what people really want then that's how it will go.

i don't think anyone wants you to retire. they're just thinking of cheaper solutions following up on what you said in this very thread

Yep I know. :) From my perspective sticking with what I have is the path of least resistance. If I have to pack up the site and move somewhere else and deal with a completely new infrastructure/support regimen, it makes a good stepping off point for me. Let someone else have some fun.

I'm not threatening anything - I really wouldn't mind that outcome after 14 years of keeping the site alive. Maybe it's just time to pass the torch. :)

This site has been so useful to me. I'd hate to see it go or even change a bit. It feels warm and comfy as it is, please do not change anything ! 8-)

edit: Thanks Neko !

The work you've done with hosting this for so long, and organising all the repository is more appreciated than you can possibly imagine. Many of us would be lost without this forum, and our machines would be a lot less useful too. Even if you do a hamei and start compiling everything yourself, the forum is still needed to discuss bits and ask for pointers and advice.

I'll send a donation over as soon as I can. Not currently at home with access to my main PC as I type this. However contributing towards this place is the least I can do.

I guess "bigred" would have to become "mediumred" if that happened :)

Jack Luminous wrote: edit: BTW, I just used the new "donate" button, but I don't see the donator badge below my user name. I hope it worked.

I have to manually add the names to the group when I see the notifications come in and a couple have come in marked as "Anonymous" by the system. If anyone got missed that needs the badge just send me an IM and I'll fix it. Thanks much!

And yes, I'm serious about selling the Crimson. I never got around to fixing the power supply, so it's best to pass it on and let someone else have a go at it. I do plan on keeping my Onyx2 for now though. :)

I would hate to lose the site. Nekochan Net and nekonoko have been great.
Without this site I would have never been able to get my Personal Iris, Indigo, and Indy up and running again.

Thanks much everyone! I've disabled the plugin for now as we're received enough donations for the time being.

I hope this site doesn't go, the software and wealth of information on these machines is priceless. Otherwise SGI stuff would be more like most other old systems, not much working software, not much guidance.

I am afraid there is also a path of no resistance: shutting down the site. This happened to too many sites in the past. And we all don't want this happen.
If I have to pack up the site and move somewhere else and deal with a completely new infrastructure/support regimen, it makes a good stepping off point for me. Let someone else have some fun.

Thank you for providing this site for such a long time. I am very happy if you do so in the future, but if you feel better if someone else is doing this foetz and I are ready to take the torch.

I won't let it go away completely no matter what - I'd definitely pass it on to you and foetz if it came to that. Thanks much!
