The collected works of SPSDOD

Using a Compact Flash card adapted to IDE adapted to 50-pin SCSI for installing and booting IRIX on an older IRIS (PI or Indigo).
I notice the classic Mac enthusiasts are trying this: here and here .
Anyone tried it? Any technical reasons it wouldn't work with IRIX?

I know the classic Mac OS is a lot smaller, a lot less demanding, and a lot more forgiving than IRIX.

Sounds right. When I had to scrap my Onyx Deskside (RE²) I got $8 or $10.
It had a bad Dallas chip, pinstripe of death, and then the graphics gave out completely -- serial console still worked.

Dude, if I can get a new PC case. I will send you my 230 case for shipping cost.

Donation made. 8-)
I would hate to lose the site. Nekochan Net and nekonoko have been great.
Without this site I would have never been able to get my Personal Iris, Indigo, and Indy up and running again.

Very nice MrBill. Very nice.

Mac Classic with 4MB of RAM, external 100Mb hard drive, and Apple 600e CD-ROM drive. I use it as a terminal for my IRIS systems (serial connection) if they're broken. It runs OS 7.5.3

B&W PowerMac G3 with 1.5GB of RAM and a couple of 20GB hard disks. It dual boots Mac OS X 10.3 and Mac OS 9.2.2. I find myself partial to the case design and color. On the 9.2.2. side it has a lot of old Mac games. 10.3 runs well on it. I also consider 10.3 the first version of OS X that was responsive enough for serious work to be done.

Exodus 24: "and I will give thee tablets of" IRIS Super Workstation Course Material!

Dated 1987, for the Silicon Graphics IRIS Superworkstation (IRIS-4D/60).
I got these a couple of weeks ago and have recently started looking through them.
One interesting fact so far, it appears the IRIS-4D series was to be referred to as the "IRIS Series 5000" as late as 1987. I guess SGI settled on IRIS-4D over IRIS Series 5000 before March of 1987.

I'll post more details from these as I move along. :D
