6.5.30 here. No problems with Blender 2.48 and a proper .B.blend file, but Blender 2.49 just cores with a bus error.

That's strange....

I forgot to mention that the built-in .B.blend was generated on an IRIX box, so it shouldn't crash when there's no ~/.B.blend

Out of couriosity, what's the output of "ldd blender"?

Running blender through gdb might also show something of interest.

sgefant

I don't have gdb installed as I use MIPSpro/dbx, but I've attached the core file if that helps any.

New to blender, but old hat with Povray - anybody
use both, and can throw some comments ?
-db-
Gave it try on my Onyx2 this morning - crashes there as well (also IRIX 6.5.30).

Code:
ALERT: Process [blender] 2701 generated trap, but has signal 10 held or ignored
epc 0x10ed3544 ra 0xace6974 badvaddr 0xfffffffffffffffd
process has been terminated to prevent infinite loop

@nekonoko: Unfortunately I couldn't get any useful info from the coredump. I'm a bit puzzled why it doesn't work on your systems. I've tested it on an R12k Octane2 and an R10k O2 (both running Irix 6.5.30) and it seems to run ok on both.

Let's hope tbcpp can do a 2.49 build with MIPSpro and see if that one works.

greetings,
sgefant

Me, too. Usually if there's any crashing to be done, my computers are right there in the thick of it.

This one ran fine for me tho (Fuel, 6.5.30). Weird.
Well it doesn't appear to be working for fzalfa either. Unfortunately, nobody else is chiming in, so the sample size is pretty darn small.

Is it correct that all the systems where it doesn't run are multi-processor? If that's the case, I'll revive my origin and do some tests on it.
Greetings,

the next release of Ayam (a free 3D modelling environment) is due shortly.
Since I feel this is an important milestone in terms of features, stability,
and security, I would like to include an official IRIX binary with many
plugins in the release.
Unfortunately I lost access to SGI machines some years ago.
Could you help me out with an account on a network connected
machine with officially licensed SGI-CC?
HD space needed is around 1GB (for all the sources of Ayam and
libraries needed by Ayam and the plugins).
Honourable mention of your noble deed in documentation and WWW
is, of course, guaranteed.

kind regards,
Randolf
Check out www.polarhome.com they (or rather, he) offers free accounts on multiple platforms and has an Indigo2 I think. Not sure if you can get 1GB though... but ask, the admin is a nice fella.

SGI offers development access to an Origin with all the goodies (O3400 I think), all you need to do is ask politely. I know there are some other people around here with big iron that might oblige as well. My biggest beast is a O200 2x225MHz, but if you need it for a couple days I can fire it up and get you a shell.

www.cray-cyber.org has a O2000 as well, not sure exactly what versions of the MIPSpro compilers are on it - info says 7.2.1, but that's pretty old. If that's what it has then it won't support -c99 :(

Cray-cyber hasn't fired the o2000 for like months..if at all this year.. and then it is only available Saturday Munich time.
The desktop cyber is able the only thing they run 24/7 nowadays.

Oops... old thread !
The 5.1.26 SP1 demo seems to run on Octane2 V6 6.5.30, and IRIX licensing seems to be still available on Realsoft Web Shop. Is it worth buying for a 3D beginner (and SGI lover) ?
