They was a lot of diversity in the early 80s with home computing. I liked the Jupiter Ace - had Forth as a native language. I had a Science of Cambidge MK14, a ZX81, a Dragon (I think it used a 6809) - I liked the Oric, it was 'Spectrum Sized' but had a better keyboard and really cool sounds...happy days, PCW full of interesting machines every month - now it is just PCs..

just spent the day at Akihabara - electric city, really amazing, incredible choice of stuff. Many shops selling 2nd hand workstations and servers (lots of Sun boxes but didn't see any SGI ) really amazing, lots of backstreet places selling 1000's of laptops..And don't forget the Manga comic and figure shops as well as the 'fluffy maid' cafes!

I bet Pentium would have fun and exceed his return luggage allowance!

And then what?

I don't have much room in my suitcase!

Actually I saw a lot of Sunblades (2000, 2500) and some older Ultras.
A lot of Mac G4s but mostly lots and lots of laptops!

That is shut down now..

They still are many shops selling heaters etc for cookers, heat guns etc.

The back street areas of Akihabara are as good as ever, OK, the main street and around the station is more 'touristic'

You'd fall in love with one of the Manga girls and stay here!!!!

Just back from Harajuku, lots of rockabillies today but didn't see so many of the Lolita girls...

When I visited last August one Sunday they had a very big festival and parade in Harajuku and around the Meji Shrine. Really impressive.. The wooden 'clackers' in the hands of the girls are designed to scare aware sparrows from the fields (Pentium - beware)..

You can see where the battery leaked (bottom left corner). The unit is fitted with a 25MHz ARM processor, a SCSI card and (not visible) ROM/RAM card.
I also have an Atomwide prototype card and a home made DES in hardware card (built back in 1988 when I was interested in cryptography. I did start on an external floating point hardware card (base on TI 32 bit FP MAC) - I did build a vector card for an ISA slot using a 16x16 => 35 MAC (TRW 1010) and I got a bit carried away - I think I could never get the state machine (in PLDs) to drive the memory and feed the MAC to work properly..

Just come back from another 2 weeks in Japan, again all work in the Tokyo area but did make a few trips at the weekend. Did Mt. Fuji and the Hakone - unfortunately it rained the whole day
Harajuku was very good on the Sunday - a lot of Rockers and Harajuku girls out..
Had dinner one night on the 52nd floor of the Sumitomo building in Shinjuku, what a great veiw of Tokyo - glad I wasn't paying the bill!

I visited Miraikan n Sunday - this is the museum of science and innovation. Really worth a visit (the trip of the Rainbow bridge also is great - what a view..)

Lots of robots and they also have a VR cave (but it was closed when I visited)..

The 7 year is the life extension you have eating the egg, not the age of the egg.
I have seen 'thousand year' eggs in China - they smell rancid!

after some of the food I've had in China - they are probably not that bad...
I had fried scorpions in Chengdu and some of the things in Shenzhen....

I spent 1 day in Shenzhen in October - it was enough time to realise why I don't like to be in China!

I am in Japan again this week for the FOE show held at the Tokyo big sight location. Weather is fine, clear blue skies and around 12c yesterday. Great view of Fuji on Monday afternoon.

yes, some great booth babes in tight PVC dresses and calf boots.... The Sony girls where the best, they also had a Russian blonde....but didn't look great in the PVC!!!

Well, I should have taken some 'booth babe' pictures at OFC - not as 'gifted' as your picture suggests!

I doubt you will find anything SGI in Akihabara - yes you'll find loads of old PCs, some somes and lots of Apples but in 3 years I never found anything SGI like...As always, the best bet is ebay.....

better going to the Meji shrine and getting something more traditional!

You will have plenty to do, it is a very interesting city, very safe and the people are really interesting but I do find the food a little tough!!!
I would recommend hoping on the train and visiting other cities and also visit Mt. Fuji and the Hakkone as well - I dare you to eat a seven year egg!

I will be in your neck of the wood in June, I will have a three week holiday in BC...yes I will bring and post the CD I promised you!!!

I have been very impressed by BC so far, stunning scenery and friendly folks. Tonight I am in Revelstoke, really nice walks around here. Even saw another black bear.

England and New Zealand

Was in Kamloops for one night, now in Banff, really enjoying the Rockies. Canada is very beautiful but rather expensive, I toured NZ last year and accommodation here is double the price here. Really surprising as I though having the US on the doorstep prices would be pushed down.
Anyway, stunning landscape and warm friendly people - makes for a great holiday (but I can see why Pentium has bent a few cars - Canadians are not the best drivers

Not really - I learned to drive in the UK, and now I spend far more time in San Jose/Milpitas than I do in Germany. I find of lot of the German drivers are very aggressive and not half as good as at driving as they think they are!

So Pentium, what will you do in Vancouver?
