I've got an O2, came from a dumpster outside of Columbia University. Machine was "Bronk" in the music department.

Anyway, it runs just fine on 2 gig HD and 64 meg RAM, but...

The ethernet connection seems to be dead, no connect lights on my hub/router, never negotiates an IP address from DHCP. Nada

How many times, if ever, has anyone seen this? And assuming not a total hardware failure, any workaround to resurect the net connection?

It was free, via the dumpster, so not a huge thing if it never works again, just kinda like to have all my toasters running with everything working.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing shows up wrong in either diagnostics or confidence tests. Very odd.
First Irix install was a 10 hour ordeal. Now I keep a spare disk with a clean install around, and just clone away on my O2's. A few command line entries, and come back in 25 minutes and all is done..

Last Mac I did an install on was my old 128/512 k original Mac, install is just one file.

Windoze, I don't know how the OEM guys do it, but you can never ever get an install that looks like what you get with a factory new machine.

Linux, last install was SUSE 8.2, pretty darn easy.
Berkeley has been having major difficulties since last Friday, their upload/download machines have been crashing all over the place.

However, and this is good news, as of 1825 UTC, I'm up on my O2.

Woohoo! Not that I expect any kind of major calculations out of it, but it's a good retirement for the blue toaster.

And no, I never did get the ssl directory that shows up in nekonoko's directory structure.

Your directory structure didn't turn out like mine.

In your projects directory, you have "setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu", whereas I have "setiathome.berkeley.edu"

As I understand things, that folder should reflect the URL of the project that it is attaching to, so I'm wondering how your's got a different name?

Not that it matters, your's seems to work, mine keeps throwing client errors. Maybe if it ever gets a work unit without an error I'll get the ssl directory.

Barry
What did you enter as a project url?

I have, according to an email back in March, "http://setiathome.berkeley.edu"

Did you have a project URL with SSL in it?

Just wondering....

Next is getting my 486 box on line, boy is it ever gonna be slow.

Looks like both link to the same place, just a different URL.

Poor old 486 box doesn't remember how to boot up. Am I gonna have to teach him DOS before he remembers? I dunno, I only have a day before I leave home, it's like teaching spelling to a kid.

Nekonoko, thanks for the feedback. I'll get a handle on this one day.

What's interesting is that the buyer of the eBay item is in the UK. Shipping would eat him up on this server. And, the buyer has left positive feedback about the sale.

I'm sniffing a scam out of the DRMO at Elmendorf.
