That part with the serial console i dont quite understand.

The only thing on the prism i can connect a serial cable to is the "console" port on the backside.
If i plug it in there and connect to it, i only see the L1 prompt and the output of the l1 commands.

I dont know how and if i can connect to the console output through serial cable.
The problem arent the graphics - The whole machine does not work properly. Kernel errors (unaligned access), boot failures because of some strange error in a compression lib, black screens even on console mode... The list goes on and on.

The ia64 kernel project is orphaned - The project site consists of dead links. No one maintains this.

I have to try if the prism even boots without graphics card installed. Because to get the current usage down i tried to run it with some cheap agp card that is efficient, but it does not boot.
I also ordered two of the cards, maybe i get it working then.
Thx for the tip, that was exactly what im looking for.

So i made some experiments after calming down for two days.

Gentoo and Red Hat 5.0: Does boot (gentoo takes ages, doesnt find root device itself), does install, but trying to boot it gives:

Code: Select all

ELILO boot: Uncompressing Linux... gzip.c(line 602):gzip_ia64 : invalid compressed format (err=1)
Start of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server failed: Load Error
Paused - press any key to continue

I dont find anything on the net about it

RHEL 5.5 stops at "freeing kernel memory"

SLES:
11 SP3: Tries to boot in yast2 (x window crap) and then the screen wents dark. Sometimes it is possible to switch with alt+f2 to text console, and with alt+f1 back to text-yast somehow. Sometimes it doesn work because the keyboard is dead.

Is there a way to tell it to install w/o X?

11 SP1: Boots nicely, but quits the yast ncurses frontend with the first message: "an error occurred during the installation". I am then thrown back to yast, and cant install regardless what im doing.
On the other consoles (F2-F4) i get an error like keyboard error or keyboard not found, and /dev/console not found. But I dont find any usefull hints on the net.
Now the funny part: I have a serial to usb bridge which BSODd my PC several times when that ncurses install menu switched windows.

Debian: The keyboard doesnt work as soon as the installer gets up. I need to try to get this running through serial console, now that i know how to switch between them (CTRL+D to enter, CTRL+T to leave to L1 again, thx smj).
[E] Tried so - BSOD.

Im getting drunk now, fuck it
Because im trying hard to get the prism running in any way, i tried to replace the agp graphics cards with some old pci one i got laying around.

However, if i do so, it drops me to that POD shell or whatever it is, refusing to boot.

I wonder if that also happens if i try with that ati cards? I dont have them yet.
After looking at your website i thought: Arent drugs and their users heavily hunted/pursued in japan? ^^ (Anyway, there is always a way :D )

I like the spirtitual touch in the pics.
Ok, got my cards since some days now, but somehow this thing wont run anything.

No matter which linux i try, either i have a non bootable installation (gzip.c(line 602, 604 or 605):gzip_ia64 : elilo: Read failed, or it doesnt boot correctly (RH 5.5 (freeze at "freeing kernel memory", current gentoo (boots crappy slow, commands hang for 30 secs before getting executed).
This happened in RHEL 5.0, Debian 6.0.3 and at some point with sles11(sp1 and/or sp3)

One of the sles versions (i think it was 11sp1) did boot with the FireMV2200, but as it switched screen for the installation to begin, the screen is fucked up (90% question marks)
sles11sp3 wont install either, theres a message at the start of install that says "An installation error occured, installation can not contiune".
I couldnt figure out yet whats the problem
Hi there.

Some weeks ago my fuel ate her disk (over current or something, made pfffft, smoke coming out of the disk-controller, fuse (of disk) blown).

I bought another 68Pin disk (they became expensive), but the fuel doesnt recognize it.

So i thought the controller/cable may be broken. Because the cables are prop, i bought a qla1080, but it doesnt get recognized at the prom hinv.

Has there to be some black magic before the thing works? Or is the qla10160 the only one that is supported by the prom?
That means i have to buy a new mainboard?
LOL i found my problem (no LOL, just stupid).

I tried all my installations on this machine on disks i pulled from my netapp...
They are 520 Bytes formatted, and i think this was the problem with the gzip.c errors.

Today i put in a normal disk, that is default to 512Bytes/Sektor, and it runs the new installation of SLES9 now.
So i have to die.

What is the best and quickest way to pass out?

Im thinking about Heroine overdose.

Do you have better ideas? I want a way to quickly pass out, without much pain and hustle.

I dont have access to guns. But i have access to all drugs.

Is there something better than heroine overdose?

Safe your "Omg you need help" twatshitfuck.
Hey.

I take the indigo for 50$ + shipping.
Hi.

Any news on this? Im thinking to get one for Indigo and Indy, too.

How does it run/perform?
Hi.

As the new indigo is on the way to me, im thinking about the keyboard and mouse problem.
There was a page describing how to build one ( http://rshockley.dyndns.org/indigo.htm ), but its dead.

The converters that were listed on ebay are long gone.

Does anybody have a backup of the above site?
I wrote the guy, he sent me the hex files (Rename accordingly)
Hi there.

For my new indy i thought i'd like to get a SCSI/SATA Adapter to quieten her down using a ssd.

i found a "cheap" one from japan, AztecMonster II and bought it.
Today it arrived, but unfortunately its not working in the indy: I have strange scsi errors, see the attached pic.
Well, first i thought its the adapter, but it seems to be the indy.

I put it in my fuel, installed irix without flaws, perfect speed and responsiveness.
Its just limited to 40MB transfer speed, but anyway its real fast.

But im curious: Is my indy broken (with a normal scsi disk its working great), or is this just some flaw in the sgi scsi protocol, or the adapter?
Because it seems the adapter is working for other guys in old macs, or other old scsi devices like amigas, etc.

I also tried other sata disks, but everyone has the same error.
I also tried other cables, besides the default one with attached terminator i tried one without, and set termination on the adapter.

Forgot to mention its also working in tezro, but i think thats obvious (I used an 68p->50p adapter additional)
Well i have tried cables with and without terminator.
Also theres a term jumper on the adapter. I tried with every setting mixed with every cable - Same error.
Hey.

How is the status for the 600 mhz modules?
I'd like to upgrade my o2.
Here i am.

I can take Fedora 23, Mint, Ubuntu and Debian.
Hi.

Because i like SBCs like Raspberrys and so on, i'd like to ask if it would be possible to get an ARM Version?
Hi there.

I recently got a bunch of indigos off ebay.
One is a R4k with entry gfx, one a R4k with ZX but a broken psu.
So i put in the good psu into the ZX one and booted.

Diags were good and the system wanted to boot.

But it freezes there, forever accessing the HD, but no progress. The mouse also isnt working.

Do i need a fresh install or is something broken?

If i need one: I havent got a transceiver yet for netbooting and installing. Is it possible to install irix on a indy (R4k) and swap disks?
