I *wish* Mozilla was "just slow" on even R5K Indy, instead it's painful. :(
The latest FireFox on R12K/300 Octane is "OK", but certainly not speedy.

MSIE 6 is quite fast on a 500 MHz Pentium 3, and renders almost every site perfectly. It's the rest of its host OS I don't care for. That and never-ending Windows Update circus.

Regardless, I thank you Foetz for your Mozilla and FireFox builds. Rolling my own Mozilla revealed the numerous tedious dependencies required. Ugh.

I would like to thank you as well foetz. I find your builds very useful. I would like to mention that I have heard that "galeon" is a little quicker than firefox, but I have not yet found a build for galeon.

I have a router that doesn't work with IE. It's the javascript .... you could change the settings but couldn't make them stick. Took me a good hour before I figgered out that that paragon of programming might be the problem. Firefox worked perfectly. So ... almost != always :-)

Something to remember if you're ever in that position ....
miunk, galeon is available in an older version from the SGI freeware archive.

Foetz, keep up the firefox builds, you've got at least one addict. ;-)

Eroteme.ch - my end of the internet...
Epiphany, because it has a native, build-in, well-working crash/recovery system much like Opera has. My only complaint is that it doesn't have LDAP support. However it is also part of GNOME, so i prefer Firefox + a less good crash/recovery plug-in. That one won't recover when your browser or anything underlying decides to turn it's back against you.

o2 r10k-250. browsing and cdplayer skips. using sgi freeware build of firebird. is there anything that is faster? just the jabbering emoticons take 50% cpu, ugg.
I'm using Mozilla V1.4.1 from IRIX 6.5.24 Overlays; and it is running pretty well, even when is a painfully slow app, and almost a never ending wait if you try to use composer.

But I think that I can't demmand more from an O2 R5K/200MHz

Skipstone is pretty faster, but a lot buggy :?
Netscape is a pain rendering sites slightly complex than basic HTML... so; Mozilla is my choice!

...Anyway, I MUST get installed your version, Foetz; to try if things goes better! ;)
Thanks in advance by keep our SGI boxes up to date! :D

that''s an antique , sky ! jeeze.

get one of foetz' newer ones. I was particularly happy with an early v.8 on MIPS if the newest gives you some trouble.

btw, gtk2 is not so wonderful.

ah yes, the bane of open source, you're never uptodate... where's it at, then?

but... wich is the dependencies list, to install your builds? Thanks in advance! ;)

(Sorry if you have posted this info before... :? )
For those interested in more lightweight-than-Mozilla-browsers:
Dillo
Netrik
Links
W3m
Elinks

All of these run _fast_. Some of these have HTML4, frames, tables, javascript, image support rendering the program quite useful for all-day basic usage.

I've only compiled and tried Links2 on IRIX 6.5 and it ran & worked very well.
