Hardware For Sale/Trade

I bought on ebay a 17" monitor for a mere $22. As the seller was in the LA area, we arranged for local pickup. What I discovered is an sgi spare parts & complete system treasure cove right in the heart of Inglewood, CA (for the non-LA residents, depending on the time of the day, a SWAT escort might be required)!

Whatever you need sgi-wise, the owner of this business (nadiaabu on ebay) has it, and not only one, but a pile of it! Not just Octane/Indy/Indigo2 (100's of them BTW), but also big irons, RAID arrays, monitors, ... It's like a flea market exclusively dedicated to sgi hardware.

The guy is a very reasonable, personable person. The kind I wish I met more often, especially in LA! For instance, the thing that struck me: I was told if my $22 monitor didn't work well, I could bring it back and get another one... Now, how many times do you hear that? Also, the price tags are aligned with ebay, so for the LA residents, it's ebay with try & buy! For outsiders (yeah, you now, like these people, like who don't leave in LA), he happily ships too! I spotted a groovy 24" sgi monitor who needs a new owner...

As far as I'm concerned, unless I find a V12 for $50 Buy It Now, I am done lurking on ebay and will ask this person first for sgi merchandise.

In short, for those who haven't guessed yet: very highly recommended!

PS: this is personal experience, I have no ties whatsoever with this very nice person and do not get any sort of kickback for that obvious plug... It's just for the benefit of the sgi officionados (the ones tired of buying so-called refurbished stuff from sgi resellers who bought them on ebay for half price the week before)...

Well, if you ever happen to drop by there again, don't suppose you could see if he's got any old 4D stuff....namely just a partial or complete(HA!) G or GT board set. Really at this point I think I'd rather have a G, so I can swap boards out to determine the board that causes the pinstripe of death and maybe figure out whats causing it. I've got to take some pictures of it sometime because it's not as clear cut a problem as you'd think.

I did see a lot of old iron stuff (boards, skins, ...) although I really didn't detail out everything (and I saw only half of what he had).

Is there a phone number or email address we can use to get in touch with this guy directly? I'd love a reputable ebay alternative, its always good to hear about another outlet for sgi parts!

Wow, You wouldn't know if he has a website other than selling on eBay from time to time, or if it would be appropriate to eMail him to see if he has something? (him or them, or her)

It's great to hear that there are sellers of SGI equipment, that aren't going to charge an arm and a leg for an old system. I will have to investigate his prices on an Octane, Indigo2 or O2 one day.

I got an email back from him. Nice guy really. Like unixmuseum said he's putting a site together once he gets moved to a new space and possibly some form of email list.

I should give him a shout in a couple of weeks and see if he has any Origin 200 upgrades - I'd love to go to 225 or 270MHz on the webserver.

It could be.

Communication was the biggest problem when dealing with S.Dakhil. His prices were good and his machines were in good cosmetic condition. I don't think he was any worse than the average eBay dealer today (probably better), but he's no Greg Douglas.

Just be sure both you and Dakhil are clear on what accessories are included and at what cost.

I know Dak (as he goes by). I've done some support and cosulting work for him recently on a deal he was working for an Onyx.

I've spent some time working at his location on Prairie over in Inglewood. He does have quite an inventory of older stuff (mostly I2s, Indys, Challenges) and I was going to pick some up from him but the prices were a little steep compared to the current "market" rates. Still, I'd say he's a trustworthy seller.

He certainly has a strong ethic when it comes to dealing with his customers.

Now, about this 400 PM20...

Just calling it as I see it . He was fair and honest with me so I can't say anything bad.

I did forget to mention, though, that when I was working with him he indicated that he had a guy that was handling his eBay sales and his support contracts (this is who I was replacing) but the other gentleman had moved out of the country. I suppose it's possible that the negative feedback might not have actually been Dak. But then, I don't know the whole story so I'm talking out my *ss

I've been thinking about picking up some more I2s from him but I'm not sure I can justify them from a profitability standpoint. Anyone know if there's much demand for I2s?

I think there's still interest in Indigo2s... but it fades quickly when a potential buyer realizes that shipping will almost cost as much as the machine itself!
